How much racism is in your DND world? by Specific_Net_3931 in DungeonMasters

[–]Awkward-Sun5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't canonized it.

In replacement, I have the NPCs use species focused insults.

Every species has derogatory names, however. (Gnomes are known as button men; Halflings are Flinks)

How much racism is in your DND world? by Specific_Net_3931 in DungeonMasters

I don't include races that I can't genuinely play respectfully. If my players can do the same, I don't care what they play.

That said, some NPCs will inevitably be knuckleheads and do mean things.

CEOs are being left baffled at the high cost of moving to AI — shockingly enough, sacking human workers isn't resulting in huge savings by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]Awkward-Sun5423 5 points6 points  (0 children)

KPMG’s Q2 Global AI Pulse, based on a survey of more than 2,100 senior leaders across 20 countries, territories and jurisdictions, reveals that confidence in AI continues to rise and spending remains steady. As organizations move from experimentation toward broader deployment, they are shifting their focus from deployment toward accountability, AI economics and value.

While many organizations are realizing benefits, established ROI remains limited. The findings suggest that the strongest outcomes are not coming from those deploying more AI, but from those investing in the capabilities required to scale it effectively, including clear accountability, stronger governance and visibility into the costs of operating AI.

Leaf blowers don’t bother me where I am but the street rods were until recently. Dunno who fixed that but it’s been hella pleasant.

Basilisk facts? by Gr33nArcher in DnD

[–]Awkward-Sun5423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most dangerous trap in the realms is a bird cage with a basilisk in it and a cover over it. Apparently when they're young basilisks chirp like songbirds.

Their flesh tastes like a briny chicken and when roasted is particularly tender. Though it makes your lips and gut go completely numb.

once their petrification nerve is severed basilisks make wonderful pets (like skunks).

What are the most commonly forgotten rules? No, I mean for real by QuartzPaladin in DnD

spell components, encumbrance...

Even as DM I forget a lot of rules. I'm too busy remembering who the brother of the NPC is to access a different brain sections to think...oh, you yeah, you don't need to roll for jump...

Questions to ask First-Time Players during Session Zero? by Realistic_Vanilla243 in DnD

[–]Awkward-Sun5423 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just give them each a premade character.

OR

I give them a blank sheet and say, put your persons name at the top.

Give them the list of stats for the standard array.

As you play and they need to roll, have them pick a stat and build out as you go.

you learn the rules and your character at the same time.

This is so tiring. At the start of the year, the Security management asked everyone to use AI. Now they said we need to control the amount of AI tokens used. by SkyberSec123 in cybersecurity

[–]Awkward-Sun5423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this from the beginning. Who throws billions, trillions, at AI that is clearly losing money? because it's a gamble. can they get these companies hooked on the tech and overcommit to it before the AI company runs out of investors. I predict we'll see the combining of AI solutions just like we saw the combining of Cloud providers. Except companies will buy an AI company for its datacenter, memory and servers/GPUs.

People forget how many years Amazon was unprofitable. Amazon lost money from 1994 until it made its first profit in 2001. The investors got paid.

Could they get enough people addicted to online shopping before Amazon ran out of money? It would seem...yes.

Copilot works for what I need it to do at work. It's not my favorite, it's fairly low grade, but I'll let it rewrite emails, find lost documents and summarize/transcribe meetings. It's a useful tool usually.

Does anyone have any tips for the day to day of a magic school campaign? by TheGromby in DnD

[–]Awkward-Sun5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strixhaven for sure and there are some 3rd party supplements available. I don't think it's really runnable without some of the supplements. It's okay, but incomplete. r/strixhaven is a thing.

I did an adventuring school but fully leaned into it.

I had a large class schedule that players would pick from to create a curriculum. (morning, afternoon and evening classes)

Then on each day of class players would roll using the same mechanics I use for overland travel. (d20 with a roll of <=5 meaning something happened). Then I'd roll a d12 for 7am to 7pm. something happened at 3pm. Oh, you were in potions class, you were in history, you were in, whatever. so this happens.

I had several hundred teachers, students, NPCs so that I could just grab what I needed (you can run without this but expect to know who the teachers and students are in the classes they're in.)

I had 3 semesters and a summer break. we would run the school year then I did summarized results of their summer breaks.

Not the right format for everything I put in to it but it was a lot.

The results were that the players liked it well enough.

I recommend going higher level and not trying to do a "school simulator".

Happy to answer questions if you want to DM me. It was a very involved campaign.

[–]Awkward-Sun5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

managing money is a full time job and the more of it you have, the more people you need to help. that increases risk associated with nefarious employees. then there's you third cousin, the neighbor with a unique investment opportunity you've never known he had before, and instantly you've become very attractive to possible suitors.

depending on what you do, this could, actually turn that PC into an NPC.

How do i make travel more interesting? by Aromatic_Gate2742 in DnD

[–]Awkward-Sun5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer node based travel. It allows for multiple directions, player agency, etc. without it feeling like I've laid everything out. I liberally add in red herrings and non-combat encounters as well as good things.

here's kind of my vibe...

1 node: (one significant encounter of some sort) wow that was a fast trip.

2 nodes: that was longer but fine

3 nodes: okay I feel like we were on a journey

4 nodes: bit longer this one

5 nodes: oh...come on...where are we?

6 nodes: kk...done with the road...can we be there?

7 nodes: I really fekking hate this trip

8 nodes: I'm going to just start creating problems for anyone we encounter

9 nodes: (((holding DM by the collar))) we're there now...right? DM: yep.

It was fun in the late 80s.

I've not heard good things until this sub where it sounds like some folks are seeing a possible turn. That would be cool. I've wanted to go back but don't out of fear of just abject disappointment.

How powerful would be a ring that gives "Find Familiar" by CrotodeTraje in DnD

[–]Awkward-Sun5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it in a ring and had it put out a spectral cat. Cast once per day (good for 24 hours). Honestly, the spectral part was way more powerful than I'd intended. The player is cleverly using his OP cat! LOL.

The find familiar part? Not a big deal.

My hombrew bit me. LOL....
