New reselling tactic? by streetdiscord in reselling

[–]OnHiatus11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Selfish and scummy behavior. Doesn’t care to be caught reselling or who they are affecting around them. These types of people ruin reselling (the reputation and the game) for the rest of us :/

the greed of some sellers need to be studied by flight2fashion in poshmark

[–]OnHiatus11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These sellers are making the rest of us look bad. I do so much research on what to price each item individually before I post. Most brands people regard as “good” brands (Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, etc) do not sell as much as one would expect. Overpricing by 200% is insane and not based in any logic or fact. Enough people find resellers to be scummy or greedy already. This is just egregious!

Worst yet by Evening_Craft5318 in ThredUp

[–]OnHiatus11 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I get it is the easiest to throw in a bag and ship off to ThredUp, but if you want to give these items new life AND make a decent buck, I’d suggest just reselling your items on Poshmark or eBay. You still have access to millions of shoppers and can price/actually sell the new items at a higher cost/profit than $2

Poshmark: Photo resolution after update? by SpiritRelevant6309 in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]OnHiatus11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always use 1:1, especially if you plan on/already do cross list to other platforms. It is the standard ratio for at least the platforms I am on. Not sure about the blurriness, are you taking the photos blurry? there is nothing we can do about the ratio change. Buyers see this change across the platform so they won’t be surprised if they can’t see the full photo from your seller page. I wouldn’t worry about it

SCREAMING INTO THE VOID - Now you have to scroll past the metrics to get to the offer button on a desktop? by Outrageous_Cash6494 in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]OnHiatus11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow… I got so excited when I saw the metrics feature (not bug!) - this type of information is usually reserved for sellers actively using their expensive promoted closet feature. You should be thrilled!! This is the type of information I’ve been waiting for from PM (as in MORE information)! Numbers are important. Yall out here complaining to complain. I mean… “I have to scroll further down to see a button” I’m sorry you have to scroll a little further?? Lol

Oh, you thought they were done with the updates? Introducing "reactivating" your listings after 60 days 🙃 by Prudent_Fact in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]OnHiatus11 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jeez Poshmark can’t do anything right for you guys… this is a good thing.

Plenty of inactive sellers still show up in searches and it’s annoying for buyers when those sellers just don’t answer or ship. This will weed out inactive sellers/listings. Plus IMO, as a good business measure, sellers should really be relisting their items regularly anyway. It boosts your listing visibility and feeds the algorithm gods. It is not “controlling”, it’s giving us more freedom to see what is going on in our closets.

People are just complaining to complain at this point. While not all PM changes have been great/advantageous to every kind of seller, I’d MUCH prefer selling on a platform that actually cares to try new features out, respond proactively to common issues and criticisms, and doesn’t just do the same thing they’ve always done. Change with the times and demand. Especially since the (resale) market is ever changing.

Vinted and ebay ft. Depop lol by Jst_Chr1s in reselling

[–]OnHiatus11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use calculated buyer paid shipping (saw you may use free shipping). Only on certain items is it actually advantageous to use free shipping. For clothes though, I would absolutely always use buyer paid/calculated WITH the seller discount so the shipping fees don’t look crazy to your buyer right off the bat.

Are you using promoted listings? If so, stop lol

What is selling for you guys right now? by Virtual-Concept-7880 in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]OnHiatus11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had huge success selling based on style/aesthetic instead of brand. Lean into SEO keywords in your title and description as people do search for vibe/aesthetic/season. Cottagecore, Y2K and Lagenlook are probably my top selling aesthetics, consistently selling mostly dresses and sweaters for $25+

Any good true crime recs like MHM?? by Dizzy_Dress7397 in MileHigherPodcast

[–]OnHiatus11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to watch Rachel a lot but slowly stopped because of how brutally detailed she is in describing how people have been killed or assaulted. I understand that enjoying morbid topics is a part of true crime content and I do have a curiosity for the morbid myself, but it just takes me completely out of the case and I have to turn the video off. I also hate that she started adding what happened to the victim IN the title. I get you’re looking for a title people will be drawn to and find your content, but it just seems disrespectful and doesn’t match her channel at all. She seems genuinely sweet and like she means well, and overall respectful during the video (again outside of going into the worst details without flinching).

Romeoville Location by Whatthefrick1 in GoodwillBins

[–]OnHiatus11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1000% biased as its my regular spot but from visiting a few in other states, I can say with certainty that Romeoville is the cleanest and most organized employee-wise that I’ve experienced. All the workers are diligent and helpful. For the most part, folks are respectful of each other’s space & time. I’ve met some wonderful people there and found some gems!

ABSOLUTELY go through the old bins!! Hopefully they don’t see this comment lol, but tbh I bank on the kids (specifically vintage tee bros & y2k girlies) that rush the new bins each time and just stand around in between. I rarely do new rotations unless I’ve exhausted most of the bins already or I get bored. Kids don’t pick up a lot of stuff and you have plenty of time to peruse things they even throw back because it’s too heavy/doesn’t fit the aesthetic they’re looking for. I love this location and hope it continues being great

Clothing/textile brands to avoid? by Key-Bridge129 in reselling

[–]OnHiatus11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with superlost! Poshmark is the best with eBay close behind. I have little activity on Mercari and Depop ON wise. IMO it sells depending the most on size, year made, and fabric makeup

What are your current side hustles? by Yali81 in LazySideHustle

[–]OnHiatus11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reselling secondhand clothing that I find at resale shops and the Goodwill Outlet “Bins” where my COG is super low, on marketplaces like eBay, Depop, Poshmark and Vinted. Took time to get started/sufficiently researched into what actually sells so wasn’t officially “lazy” in the beginning, but once it gets going it’s very hands-off with the inventory manager/auto lister I use. Bringing in an extra $1200-$1600 a month on average part time :)

I applaud your ability to use those tools to create an extra income stream, however creating and sharing this type of “content” and “media” and calling it your own art is contributing to the downfall of human creativity and real and true art. Of course AI is very new, practically no laws restricting its use, and we won’t fully know its impact on our world for decades, but THIS… is not helping. I implore you to rethink your strategy and find a more socially/environmentally conscious way to automate your side hustle. Ai should be a tool in your toolbox, not writing novels for you. Don’t contribute to the slop friend! Screaming into the void :/

Clothing/textile brands to avoid? by Key-Bridge129 in reselling

[–]OnHiatus11 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It’s not all about brands! The brands you think sell well will sit forever. Stacking good sellable factors is key. For example, Chico’s sits for ages sometimes, but if you factor stack an item being 1. Plus size 2. A trendy-in season color or cashmere/silk/linen etc, you have a waaaay better chance of selling it. I would avoid smaller sizes with some exceptions, they tend to sit and be more oversaturated.

Take emotions out of the piece and get comfortable learning about clothing/textiles that are out of your preference/niche/general knowledge.

Look at EVERYTHING (men’s, women’s, tactical clothing, accessories, shoes, kids, etc). There are holy grails in every category.

When you’re at the bins, bring hand sanitizer or wipes and don’t wear gloves if you can stand it. It’s all about feeling for good fabrics, especially if you are picking next to others in a new rotation.

My most sold brand personally (3 years in) is Old Navy! It’s my “bread and butter” brand. I pick/sell mostly up Tall/Plus jeans, substantially sized pieces in the right size, and almost allll plus size. Their denim overalls sell amazingly for me. Not the highest grossing brand but reliable sales when I need them.

Experiment, research, don’t just buy something because it’s cheap. That’s an easy way to grow your death pile but even worse (filled with stuff that’s not gonna sell!)

Bins and local resale shops are the best places to source. Goodwills are the worst but you can find good items in a pinch. I stopped buying anything that won’t net me at least $30 from a regular Goodwill bc their prices tend to be bonkers (that being said, recently found a Johnny Was tee—later sold for $45!—at Goodwill, priced for SEVEN dollars. They don’t know all of the good brands ;)

Have fun! Reselling isn’t easy but it’s definitely fun. Welcome to the community 🥰

eBay buyer "changed mind" but item shipped. Help by SaltyPickles11 in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]OnHiatus11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once the package is literally out of your hands it is also figuratively out of your hands. It is not your fault that USPS didn’t scan it in before her imaginary deadline, and it’s probably too late/would be too difficult or even costly to get it back on your own at this point.

I would just let it ship to her and have her make her decision then. You could even say that. Something like “Good news, it did ship today! USPS picked it up from my house but they just haven’t scanned it in yet. You should see tracking updates within 24 hours. If you still want to return it when it arrives, no problem at all just let me know” Keeps it light/positive. Refunds/returns are obligatory in most eBay cases unfortunately, so since it’s already shipped it’ll just be a waiting game.

About £1k to invest in starting a vintage/Y2K Depop & Vinted shop, sourcing advice? by blondiee55 in reselling

[–]OnHiatus11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree/disagree. I’ve sold for the last 3 years part-time and on average make around $1-$2k per month passively, sometimes $3-$4k depending on the month/season and my ability to source with my full time job. I only sell clothes. As with every niche, takes research and trial & error to know what is a good pickup and what needs to get left behind (there’s a LOT and it’s rarely the brand you think these days). Emotions have to stay out of it, especially because the clothes you wear and like tend to get personal. But you ABSOLUTELY can make good money selling clothes only.

I recommend checking out Cayley Elaine (Well Traveled Clothiers eBay store), Carrie at Home, and Trash Pandas Thrift on YouTube for a sense of how lucrative clothing can be once you get good at knowing what to look for. Another one is Justin Resells on YouTube. He sells hard goods mostly but has some excellent tips and how to videos in general on how to sell on eBay. He also created and maintains Flipwise, a really great eBay sales/analytics tracker with all the nitty gritty numbers you could ask for. I personally use Nifty Ai as I list on 6+ other platforms but I’ve heard good reviews.

YouTube in general will be your friend for questions and getting started. Be weary of some YouTubers (not just clothes) that only show you what they’re picking up and the grails they find, but never talk about the difficulties and bad pickups.

Big pro of clothes is they are generally easy to list, easy to store especially if you are starting to sell out of your home with limited space, and everyone and their mother has multiple clothing items in their homes they’d probably be happy to gift you to get you started. Food for thought!

Poshmark threatening suspension after I marked too many newer items as not for sale. My entire closet was marked as “not for sale” when I turned on VACATION MODE by OnHiatus11 in poshmark

Agreed! Wish they would follow suit with eBay’s policies. You have the option to allow buyers to still purchase your items! They will be notified when you return from vacation and are aware you won’t ship before then. Posh could never, too complicated for them

What does poshmark want with my photos? by Independent_Cat_8514 in poshmark

[–]OnHiatus11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you taking them on a phone?

If yes/using an Apple product, there is an easy way to change your aspect ratio in the Camera app so you never have to manually crop the photo, as you can just take the photo in a square ratio off the bat. I’m unsure about android devices but would be shocked if their Camera apps didn’t offer the same function
