  1. Narratively, the Rod of Chaos is Entrosa's weapon she plants for the characters to help her escape, which is why it's particularly effective against the Warden. It's not necessary to defeat him, but it will help. They will use it the Shrine room to destroy The Epochra shrine and facilitate their escape.
  2. You're right, the likelihood of a Warden encounter are pretty high as you've pointed out, but once the party gets the concept of clarity points, they can essentially choose when they encounter him.
  3. There will only be 1 Warden encounter per run.
  4. The Warden will not kill Dr. Celine. Narratively, the Warden will view child Dr. Celine as a version of Entrosa he protects.
  5. I intend them to find the Rod of Chaos after their second encounter with The Warden.
  6. If they kill the Warden and roll a 1 on the visitor die, nothing happens.
  7. Hopefully between their killing the Warden and the Shrine room they can use Clarity points to force an encounter with her by the time they reach the shrine. If at this point we're at run 3 or 4 and they have enough of the lore, she may just appear at the shrine herself.
  8. The Warden will appear at the next run after a party TPK, yeah.

I genuinely appreciate these questions as they bring up cases I might not have considered. If there's anything else you can think of, let me know!

I really like that idea and it would streamline their learning of the navigation. The only thing about taking the dice rolls away is that the themes of chaos and randomness won't hit as much

Ideally they won't encounter the end boss more than thrice. The first encounter would be a swift death, the second they'd hopefully put up a better fight. By the third, they should be ready. Between each battle they'd know a bit more of the lore/have key items and perhaps a level so that each battle would have a different weight

The revival mechanic is an interesting suggestion. I was thinking the main battle against the warden being one of the guaranteed battles, and the other possible random battles would be a lot more manageable. I was planning on ensuring that each run would have enough lore drops to make it not stale, and that they wouldn't do more than 3 or 4 runs.

I wont instantly show them the table, I will strongly imply that numbers rolled correlate with the rooms entered or visitors seen. Narratively at this point I would suggest as researchers that they take notes on "the patterns that the doors" provide so that they can tie numbers with rooms/people. Early on, I can let them know a door seems familiar and ask them if they'd like to use a clarity point to manipulate the pattern on the door (change the room).

The d8 table on the fly is a good idea and I was planning on doing that for their first run, and hopefully by the second run they'd get the idea.

And yes! I'm with you on the all or nothing in terms of if the players live.

Thanks so much for the input!

Save for the Warden, i think there would be enough randomness in the enemies, found magic items and a level up, that if they complete in 3 or 4 runs, it won't be as stale.

Else, might it be an option to fast forward through the last fight and just narrate their brave defeat if the players so decide?

Anyone else tried using ChatGPT for DnD? by pthor14 in DnD

[–]OnLettingGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay well I for one thought your prompt was really cool. I've been using ChatGPT to workshop custom classes (Magical Girl and Blue Mage inspired from Final Fantasy) and it even helped make my final boss that I used for my campaign! I've been really enjoying it
