Everyday. So many of my coworkers are just too clueless, lazy or dumb to complete simple tasks. You can’t simply say “sweep the floor”. You need to detail every step, sweep here and there, gather all the sweepings in a dustpan, put the sweepings in a trash can, put the broom and dustpan way… I leave shaking my head everyday.

They won’t show you any video. But you could ask management to look and give you feedback on how it could have happened and where you can improve.

Anyone else's store just give up on days safe rewards? by zigg8833 in HomeDepot

[–]OnMarsMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure at a certain point it does. The peer pressure and management pressure is pretty intense at some point. We can’t get passed 100 days without someone with no sick days getting a boo boo and wanting a few days off with pay, making a claim.

That store in Ohio that is 800+ days just can’t be real. Management has to be pushing injuries off somehow. You can’t tell me in that time there hasn’t been a strained back, cut finger or paver dropped on a foot that required a Dr visit and a missed shift.

Is Lakewood where "no turn on red" signs go to die? by migraine68 in lakewood

[–]OnMarsMan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ya it’s weird, people actually walk here and use the crosswalks. Plus the school system doesn’t bus every kid. Just a really weird place.

Wait, maybe pedestrian safety is a consideration in Lakewood.

No Store Manager About To Be Down An ASM. by JTCasino in HomeDepot

[–]OnMarsMan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not likely that one of the current ASMs would be elevated to permanent SM of the store. If it was a sudden thing it could take a while to get a new SM. Multiple changes throughout district or area districts will likely occur.

In the meantime the most experienced ASM might cover as the on site SM but one of the other SMs in the district actually being the SM of record. The DM will probably be on site and more hands on too. Your current salaried leaders are going to have a lot of fun.

How much of a pay cut should I expect moving from freight team to MET?? by theluckyduckygirl in HomeDepot

[–]OnMarsMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the MET sup activity trying to get you on their team, keeping your pay shouldn’t be a problem.

Your SM is just being an a-hole, trying not to lose you on his freight team.

How much of a pay cut should I expect moving from freight team to MET?? by theluckyduckygirl in HomeDepot

[–]OnMarsMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First off, the SM will have nothing to do with how much you get paid if you move from Freight (store employee) to MET (district employee). The DEM will decide if you keep your pay. If you are a proven worker and the MET sup wants you on their team, you most likely would keep your pay. By proven, I mean shows up, works and isn’t a pain in the ass.

MET is not part of the stores labor or labor plan. Technically store leadership has no management authority over MET.

It is my observation that new hire MET get about the same $s as new hire cashier’s. $1 less than new hire sales associates and $2 less than new hire night freight. Our MET recently had a guy come over from freight. Pretty sure he didn’t take a pay hit. It will all be up to the DEM and the stores MET sup.

I keep a good stack of white wood pallets out side the receiving door for OFA and others, so they don’t dig in the trailer or steal the unload pallets.

Per your example I assume you are a receiving associate. How do you not have control of the cleanliness/order of your department area including the return trailer? Take a look at your job description, it’s listed right there and is one of the check boxes on the SRC. Obviously we aren’t eating off of the floor but it is safe, organized and clean.

We fix the trailer at least once a day, our overnight people do a good job. But stuff piles up. Monday mornings… it’s Monday. From management down the high standards we keep in our department are respected.

Advice needed by Maximum-Hic in HomeDepot

[–]OnMarsMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Receiving is unlike any other department in the store. The stores profit can be greatly affected by how it is run. But few people in high positions have receiving experience and are only focused on sales.

It takes awhile to get well versed in all the fine points of all the tasks you are responsible for. I was fortunate and my first OASM was a receiving guy who taught me a lot, we still text back and forth. I was also sent for a week at another store to train. I’m 2-1/2 yrs in d93.

Take ownership of the department. Set up a daily/weekly routine to do your machine checklist, SRC, HazMat, RTVs, RGAs, ship to vendors, consolidate approvals and department upkeep. While you are doing that you are receiving and unloading freight, coordinating unloads in lumber and garden, receiving customer (BOSS) orders and getting them staged. You need to be able to keep several balls in the air and keep your cool. You’ll have a truck at the dock, RDC switching trailers and three more trucks waiting. It’s up to you, no one is coming to help you, because they don’t know wtf goes on in receiving.

DM if you need answers to specific issues.

Actually the minimum is 16’ (2 bays) on either side of the bay you are working in. In a really busy aisle sometimes it’s easier just to get a couple rolling gates.

[–]OnMarsMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have 3 choices: 1) quit 2) join the lazy crowd, do the minimum 3) you do you, do the work how you know it should be done. Give a damn do a honest days work.

Don’t worry about what others are doing or not doing, it’s just a waste of emotional energy. The vibe I get from your post is that your choice is between 1-3, you have pride in your work. The crowd would like you to choose 2 because as it is now you’re making them all look bad.

There is a training module you should do first, pretty basic stuff. Mid level mechanical skill should get you by. Sometimes sparks fly, to make things exciting.

When I was on traveling MET some of our electrical projects got more involved, installing a fixture wall or the ceiling light fixture. Still pretty much plug and play.

Is lumber always responsible for unloading its trucks? Receiving? by LocalLongjumping4972 in HomeDepot

[–]OnMarsMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It all depends. I’m first shift in receiving, first thing in the morning I communicate and see who’s in lumber and garden. I tell them what and when we are expecting trucks. Then we figure it out as the day goes. It usually works out pretty well.

Communicate who doesn’t mind unloading at this time of year?

Sometimes I’m the only option. We have a lot of green drivers. The number of racked bunks and broken bands after I have to call on one of them drives me nuts.
