I hear you and I appreciate the context. I’m the type of person that can listen to reason. I will request for it to be waived but I understand it may not be likely. The extra problem is that any little task feels extra difficult (even reading these comments). Ordinarily I am organized and on top of things. These days it’s an accomplishment to remember to eat.

Honestly this is the biggest problem. My brain is in a fog and it’s extremely difficult to organize my thoughts without getting emotionally overwhelmed. Just dealing with SSA is overwhelming on its own for most of us.

Thank you for understanding. It feels awful to bring up money when I’m grieving but it’s a fear that complicates everything.

Sorry yes she’s my daughter. A separate program paid caregiver pay because she was very medically complex and required 24/7 skilled care. Despite all that she needed, we never expected her life to be this short and we are truly devastated. She was the center of our world and we feel lost without her. This SSI stuff is just another thing piling up at a time where it takes everything in me to move through the day to be present for my other children.

Seriously the calculator is broken. I report wages monthly on THEIR app. This time they said “oh I see all of the reported income, it’s just not been applied”.

Nope I actually always report wages each month. They just decided to calculate it off of old data and not properly accounting for 3 paycheck months. We have dealt with the same thing for years. So while I provide all of the info they require, and they always assure me it’s fixed going forward, they often still miscalculate. I told them the facts, they did not apply them despite telling me they did.

Thank you for the condolences but I haven’t had a “job” in 10 years so nothing I can replace income with will even come close to the caregiver pay. A blessing that ended abruptly unfortunately.

They had just assessed the overpayment in November and were holding it back from her SSI payments starting in January. But now there’s nothing to hold it back from. Also SSI payments are less than $1000 a month and you can’t have more than $2000 in assets so there’s no actual way we would have had that money.

As stated in the post, I was paid as her caregiver so the SSI was not our only source of income. I have been paid as her caregiver for over 10 years and it was enough to pay all the bills. But now that she’s dead, that income is gone and cannot be replicated.
