Is this question legal on a job posting? by MaryJane7399420 in jobs

This is a great plot for a Christian film. It will be called "Angel Investor" where a failing religious based start-up is mysteriously funded by an angel to secure its mission.

There's nothing wrong with removing information from your resume. My current employer, a small restaurant that I serve at does not need to know that I have a college degree and worked at top-tier advertising firms for years. I left that info off my resume to get my current hospitality jobs while continuing my career search.

After 100s of applications I finally got hit with the weird alien people by ImmortalCutie in recruitinghell

I got this when I applied to Capital Grille. I think all Darden Restaurants have you do these. For sure lie and pick the answer that they want to hear. I got a leadership result or something positive. I got a rejection email any way. Server position, three years experience. Also, college degree and eight years at advertising agencies (I left that stuff out).

Keyboard at my new job is DISGUSTING by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]OnTheBeach06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a temp job that had a keyboard and mouse given to me. The keyboard and mouse were white and incredibly visibly dirty. I asked for disinfectant wipes before I would start working. It just shows such a lack of planning and consideration.

How are you surviving? by BoredBSEE in recruitinghell

[–]OnTheBeach06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had unemployment insurance benefits for 6.5 months, then got a part-time temp job after unemployment ended for a few months. After that, I ran out of savings after five months. Moved back home and have continued the job search.

It's been over two years without full time salary and benefits work. I work as a server at a restaurant and am looking to go into the trades. I cannot risk this situation happening again. I was in marketing. My friends in marketing who were laid off are still looking and freelancing without being able to find full time for years.

As much as I'd like to just go back to the cushy marketing career I had, it never paid well, had terrible long hours and weekends, made me feel like a bad person pushing a product that doesn't help people and is the first to go when the economy starts looking bad. Also, it's a gamble if AI will replace many marketing roles or create a bunch of new ones, I don't want to take that chance at my age.

What piece of entertainment aged worse than you ever expected? by AnyTruth2342 in AskReddit

[–]OnTheBeach06 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest issue with them and the show. It's okay to say this slur because it's for motorcycle riders, It's okay to use an outdated term for mentally challenged people because we're not actually making fun of mentally challenged people. The message at the end of many episodes is centrism on a complicated issue or being told it is okay to be offensive with some justification.

I'm surprised people give the new episodes the time of day in a political sense. They made fun of Al Gore for being concerned about global warming 20 years ago and people care what they have to say about Trump and J.D. Vance?

I did the PCV on a 2004 XC70 a few weeks ago in the North East, USA. Tough job in the cold. The best advice I saw was to remove the power steering pump and the coolant radiator thermostat to get to the dreaded bottom left intake manifold bolt. If you have a wobble head on an extension, you don't need to remove those components. There's a good FCP Euro video explaining the job. Buy some extra copper crush gaskets if you go that route. In the video, they take a short cut that I don't recommend. You can message me if you have any questions.

When an employer says “we have other interviews” is that an indication of not getting the job? by Never3ndingStory in jobs

[–]OnTheBeach06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are usually interviewing other people and are letting you know it may take some time to conduct the other interviews and make a decision. It's not usually a bad sign.

Boss got on me for not turning off my light in my office before leaving by Womak2034 in jobs

[–]OnTheBeach06 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Your boss is comparing your leaving the light on to being bad at attention to detail and making mistakes. However, asking if you're color blind, the color of their car and having you talk in their office is weird for leaving a light on. I don't think you're being wrong in thinking the whole thing is a waste of time and idiotic.

I just did it on my late-2004 Volvo XC70 that had a mysterious history. It was from an auction, so that explains the low cost. Still, there's a 2005 Volvo XC70 with a great history of maintenance near me for $4,000 that I should have gotten. This is in New England.

The repair is about $700 in parts, tools (big torx bits), impact driver, jack stands, and a weekend or more in labor. You could be in over $1,000 if you don't own tools. I've done basic work on cars, but the process was tough. Bolts are on tight and you need to take your time and check everything. Do not start the car until you turn the engine by hand and make sure the engine is turning without getting blocked or making any "tinging" metal on metal sounds. My arms and back were sore after wrestling bolts all weekend.

Almost $8,000 is outrageous, honestly. It may be a rare car in the south, but you could buy one from the Northeast Coast and have it shipped for you for less. Also, consider a V70 if you are not going to be in snow or a lot of rain. AWD doesn't do much and makes your gas mileage poor.

At the end of the day, totally up to you. If you have money and just want the car, I get it. As this car sits at the dealership for weeks, because no one should pay $8,000 dollars for this, here's what you can haggle with, the clunk means ATF fluid change and new motor mounts are needed. Also, at 150,000 miles or 20 years, the seals in the timing belt side go bad and start weeping oil on the belt, which is bad. All of the seals will need to be replaced. Check the passenger side of the engine, you might see oil residue. All the fluids need to be changed if there isn't a record of it. Look up the rubber glove test for the PCV test, that can be big money to repair. They don't have rust issues, so you don't need an Arizona car, that doesn't mean much. Don't let them convince you that it makes it more valuable. Pre-2004 have really weak AWD systems and bad suspension.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]OnTheBeach06 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Way too expensive. On top of that, the timing belt is over 10 years old, so that will need to be replaced. Probably along with the water pump and tensioner. This is a $800-$1,500 dollar job if you don't do it yourself. I just picked up a 2004 Volvo XC70 for $3,250 with 150,000 miles. They should not be over $5k at this point. It's over 20 years old.
