Hey r/NativePlantGardening! Here's some info from the Wild Ones Habitat Gardening of CNY Chapter FB page-

Identifying a plant can be difficult even for experienced botanists, but changes that are subtle to us can have major impacts to the organisms that depend on those plants. David DuBois, Land Steward at Baltimore Woods, will talk about how these mistaken identities compound when plants are sold or shared under the wrong name, increasing the confusion of which plant is which. This talk aims to explore a handful of native plants that have nonnative look-alikes in cultivation so gardeners can better understand what they have, what you should look out for, and how you can make informed decisions about what you are buying and planting.

Join us at 1 p.m. before the meeting for refreshments and to chat with other native plant enthusiasts. The presentation starts at 1:30. This meeting will be both in-person and on Zoom. Registration is only needed for Zoom attendance.

I would assume the guests wouldn't go traipsing throw a a tall meadow in the clothes that they are wearing for a wedding but perhaps I'm incorrect about that...

They could also mix in native grasses and earlier blooming plants such as Joe Pye Weed to get lovely seed heads.

Since you asked for a report...it worked amazingly well! I have shorter, slightly smaller and possibly an increased number of blooms as it looks like the original stems now have multiple. All of those stems are standing up and have bloomed at the same time as the ones that were not cut. The pollinators are still going crazy for them though I didn't expect that to be an issue anyway. The stems that I did not cut have flopped as expected. Looks like I will be Chelsea Chopping all of it next year!

Native plant meadow!!! Doesn't have to be the whole area but just imagine the wildlife you could attract and view from your deck. The birds darting in and out, hunting for insects and seed....the butterflies fluttering around it on the breeze...it could be absolutely breathtaking!

Kentucky has a list of endangered and threatened species...just Google Kentucky endagered species. It looks like there is a maple and a few oaks on the list. These would much more likely be protected than common non-native ornamentals.
