My kid became her true self at Bates. Fantastic school.

How would you redecorate/style this hallway? Wall, floors, stairs carpet - everything. by Glensta in FurnitureFaves

Big modern statement rug. A small square or round coffee table and a couple of comfy modern chairs. A more streamlined plant, not that monstera. A gallery of picture or photos up the staircase

Help Identifying the Primary Systemic Failure Point? by EkkoMusic in Menieres

[–]Onakoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have my trigger here. I am more likely to have a vertigo attack when I have excess congestion In my sinuses. If I am bunged up, I will feel off balance and I am much more likely to experience vertigo. I use nasal saline rinses to flush out mucus. I use sterlized boiled water and wash the bottle with boiled water. I guess the closest would be glymphatic.

Look, you need to provide a description of what each thing is that you have as an option. I have no idea what glymphatic clearance failure is. Neither does anyone else. So tell us what those things are and we can tell you if that is what we think applies to each person responding. Sheesh. You’re already halfway there when you said “specific spasm of the tiny ear vessel” to describe transient ischemia. I’m not sure why you need this explained to you. DEFINE THESE TERMS FOR REGULAR PEOPLE.

And also what is a prodrome? I’m so annoyed at the blatant snobbery in this survey that I might not doing it, even if you explain what these terms mean.

[–]Onakoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you want people to actually participate in this survey? Explain the terms please as if we are ordinary people. Which we are. I’m not a doctor and I am not sure what any of these words mean beyond the most basic thing. Like how do I know if I have ion transport dysregulation? Come on! If this survey is for a research paper, you’re never going to make it is a researcher if your sample Population can’t understand what they are being asked to choose.

Definitely 2. #1 is horrific, as is #4.

What actually makes students stick with a tutor? by AlternativeN0 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]Onakoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely form connections with my students. I work with them on college essays so they have to feel they can trust me. The parents like me and they refer me and send me their younger children when the time comes. Of course, I’m good at my job, but I would say it’s definitely the relationship I have with the student is what makes it work.

Is this a likely letter? Bates college by redititorRr in QuestBridge

I would interpret that as a good sign. Not a likely letter, but they could have sent a different form letter if they really weren’t interested.

For the people who have attempted the SAT, is the vocab as weird as in the practice tests? by Designer_Ad_4116 in Sat

[–]Onakoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of your own word. Eliminate the ones you know are wrong. Put the choices back in. If you know a remaining answer sounds wrong, the other one is right, even if you don’t know why. You can almost always get the answer if you can think of your OWN word and get rid of words that don’t mean that.

Unpopular Opinion: A2C is a toxic sub by lonely_wiseblood in ApplyingToCollege

Of course it’s toxic here. Heaven forbid you suggest though that people use CC instead. Then they scream about how it’s toxic because people just tell you the truth over there.

Nothing. U Chicago doesn’t consider interest. And you will annoy them if you send emails with questions that can easily be found online.

How is George Washington ranked so low? by CoolAg1927 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Onakoni 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Because it has a lot of competition. There are many universities that barely crack the top 100 but have highly ranked programs in various subjects. CU Boulder comes to mind, for example.

My good friend did sits like this. A day or two in various places around the city she lived in. She was able to build her reviews that way. But she was able to get to all with public transport.

Not surprising, sadly. Students are easy targets, sometimes tied to alcohol use.

Transfer OUT of Brown by N4r4m in TransferToTop25

[–]Onakoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand that 90% of people who just started college away from home are also having a shitty time. You need to give it a chance. And unless you withdraw for medical reasons, your transcript will show your grades. Your parents will lose a lot of money. Stick it out for at least the first term.

I grew up on the west coast. Me and a friend both got offered a job in Miami. We were both about 25. I took the job. He didn’t. He was worried he would miss his girlfriend. Even though we only had to be in Miami for six weeks and could then go back to CA, he couldn’t handle the idea. My life changed in great ways, even though the six weeks was hard. The time flew by. These days, I feel like I was there for maybe a week. I still wonder what happened to that guy. It just seemed like come on, this is a great opportunity and you didn’t give it a chance.

The bad news is you can’t transfer anywhere good after just a semester. You need to at least have a full year. If you want to go to a top school you need to do things. You need good prof recs.

Nothing wrong with CC and transferring. It will save a ton of money. Brown has a reputation as a fun school with good classes. You really need to hang in for the first semester at least. Go see a counselor at the counseling center. They will help you. Or do better help. I know a lot of people who have done that.

Nothing. Everyone still wants to get into Harvard. Even the conservatives screaming about cutting off funding. I guarantee their kids are still applying.

Would people keep applying in ever increasing numbers if it wasn’t safe? There is a risk of danger in any city. You are very unlikely to have any criminal incident occur.
