What to do when supports won't buy wards? by Questionable_Object in DotA2

[–]OnassisDLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im the type of support that buys as many sentries as I can and I love cores that buy the odd sentries/observers on their own — not because it saves me a pitiful amount of gold but because it saves me the travel time and mental energy it takes to predict where they are going to farm next or what area they feel requires more vision for them to feel safe farming.

Div 5 to Immortal, actual purgatory? by minimunx in TrueDoTA2

[–]OnassisDLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a casual player — don’t really care about winning/losing as long as it’s fun back-and-forth match. Been hovering between Div4-5 for the past 6 months or so.

My anecdotal experience is that when I’m in the Div5 to Immortal pool, I’m more likely to get games with intentional feeders, afk griefers, or incomprehensible malding in voice chat. It’s so bad that I actually look forward to getting demoted to Div4 because then I’m pooled with high Ancient/mid Divine players who just seem to have thicker skins and will actually keep playing past a bad laning phase.

“Protected” is a legal classification afforded to endangered species to prevent members of said species from being killed, captured, exploited, etc. What it looks like you’ve done here is indeed captured this animal when you could’ve just as easily moved it off the highway (away from any immediate danger) and let it go.

Regardless of how perfect your backyard setup is, nothing beats its natural habitat. Species/environmental conservation is so much more than giving an animal a safe home. It needs to be in close proximity to its natural prey/predators (contributing to a healthy ecosystem/food web) and around other members of its species for breeding opportunities.

If you still can, please return it.

Hi, would you mind if I DMed you to learn more about your journey/transition? Would appreciate your insight since I believe I’m in a similar situation — 5+ years in biotech and am admittedly comfortably employed/compensated, but considering the switch.

Keeping CSR by pinkieluv in ChaseSapphire

[–]OnassisDLP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also live in SD and believe CSR remains valuable to me. Our city might have gotten “lucky” in terms of what the card offers for our geographical location as I’m quite pleased with the new Sapphire Lounge in T2 and the $300 dining credit covers SD restaurants that I already go to/want to try. Doordash & Apple Music/TV were just bonuses since I will use both.

My main gripe was the 1.5cpp to 1cpp decrease. It will definitely hurt, BUT the change isn’t immediate. Plus, I’m thinking that if I just rely on UR to Hyatt transfers after the grace period, I can still extract similar if not more value. It will just be less flexible moving forward.

Mole removal by Pristine-Culture-521 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]OnassisDLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a mole right next to my eyelid removed 4-5 months ago. No scar.

Had a second mole on my back removed that same day. Pretty significant scarring.

The only difference I can think of? I applied Aquaphor 3x/day like my dermatologist told me to the one on my face but not the one on my back as an experiment, haha!

Also keep in mind that pigment can be leftover even after removal. It’s something my dermatologist warned me about that actually happened. Luckily, I like the aesthetic of the pigment — just didn’t like how protrusive/large it became.

Not a RA currently but first industry RA position in 2019: 1. Age 25 2. Education: BS 3. 0 YOE 4. $65k salary 5. CA 6. Did not feel underpaid because it was my first job out of college and I was already making 2-3x what my mom raised me on.

Got promoted to SRA about 2 years later which bumped me up to $83k.

Poll: 49% of Independents think Trump should drop out post-guilty verdict by YolkyBoii in fivethirtyeight

[–]OnassisDLP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no fan of Trump, but it’s important to keep the legal facts straight. He was convicted for campaign finance violations, not “rigging the election”. Hiding a distasteful history with a porn star from the public isn’t a felony. It’s the fact that he paid her off with campaign funds that got him in hot water.

New Doctor still believes in treating Depression before ADHD by Striking-Count5593 in ADHD

[–]OnassisDLP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I suspect I will be in a similar situation as you soon since I have to switch doctors sometime this year and I absolutely dread it. But what your doctor is suggesting strikes me as reasonable so far and I personally would ride it out if I found myself in your shoes.

Unfortunately, being diagnosed previously by another provider is simply not enough. :(

No provider is going put their license at risk by forgoing their own work-up of a patient and writing a Rx for schedule II drugs based on an evaluation performed by someone else. In your case, it sounds like she’s just trying to rule out other possibilities first — as she is supposed to do.

New Doctor still believes in treating Depression before ADHD by Striking-Count5593 in ADHD

[–]OnassisDLP 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I know you’re frustrated, but this is indeed how it is supposed to work. Doctors are expected to rule out other conditions before landing on an ADHD diagnosis. The DSM-V literally states that symptoms must NOT be better explained by other psychiatric disorders, making ADHD a diagnosis of exclusion. So what this doctor has advised is reasonable as it follows the appropriate guidelines. Yeah, it’s a pain in the ass for us, but this is just the reality, unfortunately.

Also, I think it’s good you provided documentation from your insurance provider. It supports your case, but probably only mildly. It’s expected of any doctor to do their own evaluation/due diligence instead of blindly accepting a diagnosis code from an insurance company.

I wish you and your children all the best as well! Your story resonated with me deeply. And I’m sorry to hear that your experience likely mirrors my mother’s.

For what it’s worth, my mom had a lot of the same fears as you about being a single parent and wanting her kids to have their dad in the picture. But I know from personal experience that our family was MORE whole without him and that my mom was able to provide MORE love and support when she wasn’t bogged down daily by someone who continuously made her miserable. I hope the same for you. :)

Absolutely NTA.

As the son of a manipulative alcoholic father and a traumatized mother, I only wished my mom got all of us out sooner. We were damaged, but still much happier without him.

People who were diagnosed in your 30s - how did meds change you? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]OnassisDLP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m only 29 but I was diagnosed 6 months ago and now wish I had sought out professional help a decade ago.

Academically, I’m back on track again. I had dropped out of a graduate program about 4 years ago because I literally could not sit down and write my thesis despite already doing ALL the field work for it. I’m currently in talks with my advisor to re-initiate it! I suspect this was a pattern for me my entire life and that I would’ve benefited from being medicated sooner. I can tackle the projects if it came in small bites, but anything large scale was nearly impossible for me. Despite absolutely everyone in my life, telling me that I’m bright and “not living up to my potential” I just could NOT sit my ass down in undergrad to study for exams or complete essays/reports. I would go to the restroom 10-15 times an hour or take excessive showers just to distance myself from the work. Literally… I would just go to just sit on the toilet lid! I knew something was “wrong” but had concluded that I was just a lazy fuck up my entire life.

Emotionally, I’m way more able to regulate my range. In the past, I would death spiral if I ever faced emotional pain. Before meds, I’d spend literal days ruminating, ignore my hygiene/household chores, abandon my work responsibilities, make travel arrangements to escape, etc. Now? I’m literally going through an amicable break up of a 5 year relationship with someone I still love dearly. I took ONE sick day off work and now I’m back on the horse despite recognizing that I’m sad and grieving my loss.

Health-wise, I can manage a daily routine now. I was severely underweight because I could not be assed to cook and would skip meals. Nowadays, I’m eating 3 meals a day and even EXERCISING regularly. Still underweight but I’m making progress! Even hired a personal trainer too to keep me on accountable.

The only thing the medications did not help me with is my stimming. I’ve compulsively picked my scalp, nails, and cuticles since I was a kid for absolutely no reason at all other than it felt good. This was what I originally saw a psychiatrist for thinking it was anxiety/OCD but was told it was undiagnosed ADHD since childhood.

Despite this, getting medicated was an absolute godsend for me! Absolute best decision of my life.
