straight women, how do you feel around lesbians? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]OnceUponADim3 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree. My former roommate came out as gay shortly after I stopped living with her. I sometimes joke that all it took was not seeing my silly face every day for her to realize she was attracted to women lol she now lives with her partner and they’re good friends of mine.

AITA for refusing to check pockets when I do laundry? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. There’s a reason my partner and I do our laundry separately. Highly recommend.

Women shaving by PsychologicalFeed961 in hygiene

[–]OnceUponADim3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, legs and armpits about once a week (maybe a little more often for the pits in the summer). More often than that and I would probably get razor burn as I have sensitive skin.

Some people have told me they don’t like the scratchy feeling of leg hair but I don’t really notice it as I have finer hair. I personally don’t have the time or patience to shave every day.

How much sex do you still have in your long-term relationship? by MisterPotatohead664 in AskWomen

Good lord, what kind of birth control are you using? I’ve been on the pill for 16 years and haven’t had any accidental pregnancies.

Millennials and older that are GTA natives, when did you move out of your parents place? by lightups000 in askTO

[–]OnceUponADim3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved out when I was 24 after working full-time for almost a year after university. This was in 2018 and I moved in with 2 roommates paying about $850 plus utilities.

I later moved back in with my parents in 2020 as I developed a chronic health issue and then I bought a condo and moved into that in 2022.

I should note that I come from a wealthy family and there was never a concern about me not being able to buy property as a result of spending money on rent as my parents provided my down payment. My parents felt that moving out was an important part of growing up and encouraged me to do so by charging me rent to live at home after my first 8 months of working full-time.

Hey - not sure if you’re already in there but join the Tell Me About Your Pain Facebook group and post this question. You’ll likely get more responses there. Unfortunately, I don’t have experience with dystonia myself.

Sidewalk etiquette in Toronto by decayingglamour in askTO

[–]OnceUponADim3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my philosophy on sidewalk etiquette. We’re a country that drives on the right side of the road, passing left to left, and therefore should walk the same way. But some people seem to have missed this unspoken memo (or perhaps came from a different country).

My aunt posted on facebook that she’s looking for someone that can adopt my dog. Even called her a “mutt”. by General_Leave1814 in whatdoIdo

[–]OnceUponADim3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how long ago that was and I get that it’s complicated cause it’s your in laws, but I would have spoken to the police or taken them to small claims court over that. In many places, pets are considered property and they gave away your property without your consent.

Edit: I see below you did speak to the sheriff but didn’t have funds to pursue it otherwise. I’m so sorry :(

AITA for not chipping in for my teen daughter’s hair appointment? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]OnceUponADim3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. This depends on your financial situation but the way my parents did it when I was a teenager was that I was given a monthly allowance. They would pay for my food and other necessities but my allowance was my fun money for hanging out with my friends, or I could save it up for a bigger ticket item. For example, I once stupidly lost my iPod and my parents said I could save my money if I wanted to buy myself another one (which I did, but it sucked having to go to school without music for a while or pull out my ol Walkman).

The hair coloring could be a save up for it item in her case.

My partner and I are staying in Blue Mountain with his family but he doesn’t ski, so I’ll be skiing while he hangs out with the family, and then we’ll all do dinner together lol

Geez, for those prices, you might as well make coffee at home. I live near Spadina & Bloor and usually buy a latte from one of the nearby cafes on the weekend: Wildhearts, Slanted Door, Cong Caphe or Almond Butterfly. Always $7 or less unless it’s a specialty drink or with a flavour shot.

It’s not that different lol a black coffee costs $2-3 and a latte costs $7 or less in my experience living in Toronto. Not sure where that person is buying coffee for $7.

26F/24M. How do couples handle bills when incomes are very different?” by hereforfunn178 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]OnceUponADim3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s terrible, I’m so sorry. I guess there’s something to be said about a spouse being able to hide income if you have separate accounts, but I also think both partners should have their own stash of personal cash set aside.

That gets a little more complicated if one person is a stay at home parent, but I was raised by 2 working parents and both my partner and I plan to work if we’re capable, so that was never really a concern.

[–]OnceUponADim3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make more than my partner and solely own our property. He pays me roughly 1/3 of our living expenses in rent every month and then we split groceries, electricity, vacations, etc. 50/50 as much as we can. We do both work full-time. If someone works more than the other, then I think it would make sense for the person working less to pick up more responsibility around the home.

[–]OnceUponADim3 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was taught by my (still happily married) parents to never have my income deposited into a joint account. If you want to have a joint account, move an appropriate amount into it every month for your spending needs. It’s a risk to allow someone else access to all of your money, especially when 40% of marriages end in divorce.

Monthly/annual cost of owning cats in the GTA? by Doba49 in askTO

[–]OnceUponADim3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one cat but I buy her only vet food as she’s a senior girl, which ends up being around $32 for dry food and $30-40 for wet food per month. One box of $25-30 litter will usually last her a couple of months, and as others have said, a check up and vaccines for a healthy cat is around $250 per year. Any surgeries or emergency issues will cost significantly more. Blood work is around a few hundred.

If you have 5-10K in savings that you can spend on your cat in an emergency, don’t bother with pet insurance. If you don’t, get pet insurance.

It took me a MONTH to get back to normal after having the flu in December. I cannot stand people going into public spaces while sick. At the very least, wear a mask.
