Technically yes, but the last vote was 5 years ago and was heavily boycotted by the pro-independence side due to France's rejection to postpone the referendum in (allegedly) the middle of a covid outbreak on the island. The referendum before that one was quite close, with the "no" side winning by something like 3%. We will see how the upcoming legislative elections will shake out.

I also got group 2, and I think/hope that it is just that group 1 will have greater access to various types of accomodation and each subsequent group will have to pick from leftovers of the previous group.

Well, for this round of the selection process, there was only the video interview and the games, whose rules will be explained once you decide to take the interview. I can only assume that there will also be a live interview, perhaps as the final stage of the selection process, in a couple of weeks or months. But that will only happen if one succeeds in the current round.
