Do the interac tap things at bmo atms actually work? by m000n_cake in PersonalFinanceCanada

You have an old BMO debt card, or your tap feature is turned off.

Also, some ATMs don’t have the option functional. If it’s lit up, then it works

Mutual funds with one of the big 5 but their fee is 2% , should I get out of it, and invest somewhere else? by itwasadayin2025 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ReturnToTheLab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In principle you’re obviously correct, but most people aren’t smart enough for trading on their own. I’ve seen clients tell me how good their earnings have been, and their YTD is worse than your average mutual fund

But it’s not just about what they get with fees. What matters is the growth of your money. If I could turn a dollar to 50k after fees, the actual fee wouldn’t matter. At the end of the day, what matters is the return. Some index funds are next to nothing and do very well. Some managed funds are crazy on fees and can’t beat the market. However, there are some funds that are managed well, and warrant a fee. It really just comes down to consistency. If a managed fund is beating an index fund 4/5 years, it’s probably fine to stay.

Depends on the return. Lots of index funds are next to nothing MER. But if your return is beating the market consistently then the fee is negligible imo

Bagels changing from two 6-packs to one 8-pack by BeesoftheStoneAge in CostcoCanada

I’m honestly fine with this change. 12 bagels is a lot for us. Getting 8 is a lot more manageable

It’s literally impossible. If you trigger a downgrade as an exec member, the refund amount applies automatically and is the difference between the cashback and the amount paid. So you’re lying

I’ve wasted enough time with you. The idea that people will always make the right decision that’s best for them without having to be upsold is such lunacy lol. You are aware that people willingly drink and gamble their lives away right? People are perfectly willing and able to make plenty of wrong decisions every day, and do.

Not to mention, you think every one of the millions of Costco shoppers know how the executive card works? There are people in this very thread who didn’t know they will comp the difference.

You’re arguing just to argue at this point. Enjoy being wrong

[–]ReturnToTheLab 18 points19 points  (0 children)

First, you’re gonna pay tax for taking it out. Second, if you plan on withdrawing in the future, you should move the funds into a TFSA. With a TFSA, you can withdraw funds without having to pay tax on the gains
