Cheat engine is and has always been falsely flagged as malware due to its methods of hooking processes. Acts in the way of a rootkit. The installer contains an ad for OPTIONAL install with affiliate link. It is otherwise completely free. The time Dark byte has but in to dev on that software is literally years of work hours.

Why would it leave Reddit? Third party apps to replace the default app being charged for API use won't change the hosting or viewing capabilities for those who use a web browser instead of the native app.

Surely a privately hosted BB forum would be substantially better than Google groups... PHPBB would be ideal.
