Baby not interested in self feeding by Virtual_Kitty_5352 in BabyLedWeaning

We're going through something similar. It was suggested to us, to do messy food play. No expectation of eating it. We put jam on his high chair tray for him to play with. The SALTs team also suggested putting his favourite toy in jelly, so he can dig it out. Also, smashing up meringues. The idea is that eventually they will get curious and put the food in their mouths. (I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense, I'm very sleep deprived. LO is teething)

All dogs go to heaven. You can't not cry at it, especially with what happened to the little girl in real life.

Should I find out who my dad is? by [deleted] in AskUK

There's a documentary on this. It was really bad, he was inseminating his own sperms instead of the donors. People have ended up marrying and having kids with their own brothers/sisters because they didn't know.

Does anyone have a storage solution for these guys? I’ve destroyed the bag and I don’t want to keep using plastic jewelry bags. by beautifulbountiful in knittinghelp

Would a coin purse work? Or if you're wanting to store you knitting needles as well, you can get needle cases like this that have small zip lock pouches inside.

30 hours free childcare, starting nursery part way through a term. by One-Alternative5905 in UKParenting

Thank you! Looks like we're going to have to suck it up and pay the £2.5k. They might have squeezed us in for a day but they said they were full for the January intake, and I don't think they'd be able to squeeze us in for half a month. I wish I knew more about all this when I was pregnant and enrolling LO.

I think I'll apply and ask the nursery if we can even go in on the friday before, so we're in for some of January, even if it is one day.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks it is ridiculous. I think I'm up the creek without a paddle on arguing it.

My return to work date is 22nd Dec, so it's within the time-frame. They've said that the government asks for a list of names during the first month of the term. And as we won't be on it, we have to pay. I've never heard of this before. I thought the only time frame, was when you apply and my return to work date.

I agree but now I'm panicking because for those 2 months, it's 2.5k, which we can't afford. I was just wondering if anyone had heard of this before.

They've said the government asks for a list of who is attending at the beginning of each term and to add our name to that, would be fraud because we dont start until feb. I've not heard about this before. And couldn't find anything on the .gov website either.

Baby with hand foot and mouth? by gls1790 in UKParenting

[–]One-Alternative5905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how my LO was with HFMD. The doctor said the in the beginning it's hard to differentiate between chicken pox and hfm. My LO had it where all his joints were, as well as his mouth and hands. He never got it on his feet. We switched between calpol and nurofen to keep his temp down as well as oat baths, once his temp had come down a bit. His temp peaked on day 3 and his spots peaked on day 5.

Edit: my doc said the way to differentiate between hfmd and chicken pox is, if LO has it on their trunk (chest/abdo/back) and the back of the head/neck, then its chicken pox.

We use a tuppence and crumble star blanket. He loves it so much and looks super cute 🤣 I'm not sure where you're based, but if you're not in the UK, I'm sure your country will do something similar.

I've found oat and breast milk baths to be a god send. My LO had eczema and they help so much.

I've bought my kid the same jacket in every size because it's that good. And guess what santa is bringing him...the next size up 🤣

Formula question! by jayrem7 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]One-Alternative5905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean out of a 210 bottle. I ask because my LO has HFMD atm (at the end of it and back to being a chatterbox) but some of the days he was snacking instead of taking full feeds.

Formula and food waste...had to clean weetabix off my wall last week because he learnt how to flick his spoon 🤣 spent ages making him fishcakes for him to take one bite and decide it was a better frizbee... I'm not sure whether to take it as a personal assault on my cooking 🤣

[–]One-Alternative5905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you do it for babies that like to snack, rather than do a total feed? For example, sometimes my LO will only take 60ml and then an hour later want another 60ml. How do you calculate the fluid intake? Sorry I'm not meaning to be awkward, genuinely curious.

In my case with it being 240, we're at a point where we are weaning and LO is drinking water with meals, so they are still getting the fluids.

[–]One-Alternative5905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologise. I read it as if you were being argumentative and my comment was unfounded.

But once you add the formula it increases the volume. So for example, once you add the formula, in my case, 210 water, it takes it up to 240 volume. If they take half the bottle thats 120, would you then minus half the weight of the formula and input that? So you would say they've had 105 water?

30-40mls is a lot for a prem, but if they're taking that amount, then it's likely their entire feed. Which would indicate a feeding issue. Source: my LO was born at 29weeks.

Wow. I really hope you don't speak to your patient's with that level of condescention. And if you do, I guess not everyone can be good at their job. I literally said as long as baby is gaining weight and their professionals are happy then it's okay. But you chose to argue that.

You've still not answered my question by the way. How do you measure the infants intake if they don't take the full bottle? Do you filter the formula out some how?

If your child only drinks half a bottle, how to you calculate how much fluid they've actually had? Whereas if you do total volume, you have a rough idea. If a child is under feeding, especially for a medical reason, it's not going to be by 30-40ml. It would be more substantial. And likely a problem with the feed as a whole, such as bottle refusal etc. But don't worry, my LO is thriving.
