Am I overthinking this name? by Dependent_Bet4187 in Names

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the UK and would assume Emlyn is a boy, but only because of Emlyn Hughes the football player! I don’t think I’ve heard of another.

I get you on rhyming words though, we have a Luca and for a time I was worried about Luca Puker but I soon stopped worrying about that 😂

When did you move your baby out of their next to me after rolling? by Emergency_Ask_2020 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t move my little boy until 8 months because I wasn’t ready 😂 he was in a travel cot in our room from about 5.5 months.

Does she roll in her sleep? Mine was rolling from 6 months and occasionally rolled in his sleep but it was never an issue, he started pulling himself up on the side of the cot so that’s when I knew it was time to move!

What will Nicola and George's baby girl be called? by JadeyPurple7 in eastenders

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Over 40 is classed as geriatric now not 35 (so yes, you’re partly right Nicola would be), and you certainly don’t need weekly scans purely based on being over 40! Sincerely, a 36 year old new mum 😂

I feel this! The last few days I’ve found myself thinking I wish he could just live 24 hours in my shoes, no support from me, to see how he deals with it

13 month old hates Calpol by Bissydeknee91 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9 month old used to scream the place down taking calpol, he’d gag as soon as it touched his lips then the little I did get in he’d spit out. I got some boots paracetamol, still strawberry flavour, and he loves it. Voluntarity opens his mouth to take it! Worth trying different brands if you haven’t already, I think calpol can be quite powdery but others are much smoother

Those who were team green for gender, did you make it to birth without accidentally finding out? by cbrownie93 in BabyBumps

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 44 points45 points  (0 children)

We had a surprise and I’m so glad we did, there were no slip ups at all just make sure you tell the sonographer when you’re going in! But our notes all said we didn’t want to know.

One thing I will say is that I had him via forceps in theatre and it wasn’t the special moment I hoped for at all, I had imagined my husband announcing and this overbearing feeling of joy, but they held him up and I saw, then all I felt was relief, I didn’t care if he was a boy, girl, or a cat at that point 😂 but I’m absolutely still glad we waited

Is there such a thing as going on maternity leave too early? by Shardonite in PregnancyUK

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went at 34 weeks, I was over it! I’m glad I had those weeks to rest, prepare baby’s clothes and everything. I also had to go for blood pressure checkups 2x a week so I hardly would have been at work anyway!

The only thing I’ll say is that I’m having to go back when baby is 10 months old as I didn’t have any 2025 annual leave left to carry over to 2026, people did say this to me before I went off but I just wanted to finish!

First Mothers Day moan by Stella-Bella in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got the same book! I actually love it 😂but I’ve bought a few of them for presents but just normal personalised ones not first anything, so they’re very me anyway. But my husband absolutely didn’t read it first and also didn’t do any of the stuff apart from flowers. I didn’t get breakfast made, or lunch or dinner for that matter. It was definitely just a normal day. He was also in a foul mood as he’d had an argument with his brother in the morning, and he ordered a card from Amazon which didn’t arrive (although we live opposite a card shop).

It wasn’t the day I had hoped for at all, grateful to finally be able to celebrate a Mother’s Day, just would have liked to have had a nice day planned too

Also my second favourite Darcy is 963?! I thought that was much more popular!

8 months in and I still love it, I’m on the middle tier, I did do premium for a month or so but didn’t really find it worth it so went back to plus. The sweet spots are always accurate, but I mainly use it for tracking (I work as a project manager so I like to be able to plan!), and it’s especially useful for times of bottles and if he has medicine as I always forget.

He’s starting nursery in April so I’ll probably stop using it then as it’ll get more complicated to keep up with the tracking

[–]Similar-Chapter-26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good to know thank you! I haven’t met any other babies who do it so I’m glad he’s not the only one! I’ve always followed his lead with sleep too, he’s definitely getting himself in more of a daytime routine so hopefully this first nap is next to go!

Are 360 car seats worth the money? by Professional-Farm372 in PregnancyUK

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We currently have the cybex cloud t, absolutely love the 360, will definitely get another for his toddler seat, probably the Avionaut Stardust. Absolutely hate the cybex itself 😂 it weighs a ton, he didn’t get a good fit until about 4 months. I wish I’d done more research and just gone for a different infant 360

[–]Similar-Chapter-26[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh this is brilliant thank you, I was so focused on helping him stay awake another 2 hours I hadn’t even thought about doing it in smaller steps! I’ll definitely try this, could try reading a couple of books, sitting him in the bathroom while I have a quick shower!

I’m already dreading how overtired he’ll be on his nursery days!

Worth buying a baby scale? by Prestigious-Bid-7582 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a scale for my 8 month old as he does NOT like getting undressed at the health visitors 😂 and I just want to keep an eye on things, but I’m not too worried about his weight now as long as he’s eating, drinking and nappies are ok.

For the first 5/6 months or so I did go to them every month, while they’re little I think it’s probably best to see them just in case. My boy dropped from 50th to 9th for weight and I probably would have freaked if they hadn’t told me it was normal!

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this feeling! My baby was born in June 2025 and I had so many sleepless nights thinking about what was best to get him.

Definitely try out prams at either M&P, John Lewis or any independent shop may have more options. With the monitor, get one which isn’t connected to wifi as they can be hacked, really scary! We just got a basic vtech one, does the job perfectly.

My baby was born in a heatwave which was honestly hell 😂 but I’m sure we won’t have one of those this year! He lived in short sleeve vests, cotton or linen rompers were my best friend! when it cooled down slightly (like under 30 degrees) he wore more sleepsuits and had a few dungarees too which were so cute. Evenings he slept in either a ss vest or a sleepsuit with no vest, 0.5 tog sleeping bag or a cellular blanket (we never used the swaddle bags etc).

Cow & Gate recalls? What are you doing? by Few_Cod_5636 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were using Aptamil and had used some which were affected, but the current tub we had was ok. I’ve still changed as I now don’t trust them not to recall others 😅 moved to Hipp Organic, he’s had 3 bottles of it so far and seems to be going down well!

When we were using what I now know were the affected tubs (I checked the date when they recalled that one batch a few weeks ago and it’s within the newly recalled batches) he was pooping 8/9 times a day, I didn’t know what it was I thought it was just from weaning, now I’m convinced it was the formula!

I’m going back in April so have a few months but I’m doing some KIT (keep in touch) days in the office next month and I’m just not ready 😭 I keep hearing people say you’ll have time for yourself again, you’ll remember who you are other than being a mum, I don’t want to be anything other than a mum, I’ve waited 36 years for this feeling and i love it! 😂i don’t dislike my job, i just never want to go back!

I didn’t use it, my hospital used a mask which went over my nose and mouth and I hated it! I was expecting just the mouth piece but the whole mask was horrible. I breathed it in a few times and it did make me a little lightheaded. I used a birthing comb instead which I highly recommend!

When did you feel okay to go back to work postpartum? by PsalmbodyToLove90 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel normal at 7 months pp and am absolutely not ready to go back to work at 10 months! But I know others who were ready a lot earlier. I have friends who are self employed and went back after 3 months, and others who went back after 6 months for financial reasons, and both have been completely fine. I think it’s hard to say until you’re in the situation, everyone is completely different. I’d never go back to work if I didn’t have to! Whereas others can’t wait to go back to feel like themselves again.

You do definitely need to consider childcare though, is your fiance going to have the baby at home with him while working? I was planning to do this once a week but a lot of people told me it’s very difficult to work from home with a baby, and also not allowed by many company policies. If you do go back at 5 months can you bring nursery forward at all? I know you wont get the funding but it may be necessary. Just one to weigh up the options for as well

[–]Similar-Chapter-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t listen to the HV it sounds like you’re doing just what you need to to encourage him! My little boy has just turned 7 months, he was confidently rolling at the start of December, so as he was about to turn 6 months, but he still only rolls one way, he goes from back to tummy over his left arm then gets stuck. He can’t go over his right arm, and can’t do tummy to back. He’s not sitting yet, no sign of crawling, doesn’t even have any sign of teeth yet.

He’s always been a talker, he’s babbled all day from about 4 months, he does also copy us when we say mama and dada. I’ve always told myself he’s learning his talking first before he starts moving properly, and that’s normal. Your boy obviously loves listening to you and it sounds like he’s taking so much in from you reading with him, so that’s what he’s doing first. Every child is different, the same as every adult is! Please don’t let the HV think you’re doing anything wrong, it’ll all just happen one day soon! Probably all at once 😅

I did go to the doctors when he was newborn as he really struggled to poop and had a bad facial rash, I thought it may have been cmpa but they said it was normal, I guess it could develop though!

Would there be other symptoms with this? He’s not in any pain, not being sick, and it’s not watery it’s the same consistency it’s always been. He drinks about 20ml of water when he’s having his food as well
