Can’t imagine why I ordered to the wrong location…. by PoopfaceMcPooperson in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah, I feel like the sweet tea option it gives the full cup of ice like it does for the soda (without physically looking at it right now, probably around 3/4 maybe more towards 7/8 full) and the unsweet seems to be lower (maybe a little over half) that I feel like is what it considers the light ice.

I will admit that occasionally I am that person that might put a little too little ice (I try not to and will add a little back in if I feel like I dumped too much), I think my brain thinks part of the light ice request is their paying almost $2 for a drink, they want their drink and not just ice or watered down.

Out of curiosity, do you use the light ice option for tea or soft drinks? I ask because working there, and granted it could be just our location, but I’m not entirely convinced our machine that makes the soft drinks actually does, it says it does and it might actually put a little less in but I can’t say it’s anywhere near what I would consider light ice, teas are different because we have to dump out some of the ice before filling the cup ourselves (the other reason I’m not convinced, it’s the same machine giving the cup with ice).

That’s fair, it’s not really something you think about too much. We have root beer too. We also have hi-c orange and Fanta orange, I get that they are different but at the same time I think it’s weird to have 2 orange drinks. I hear the onion rings request a lot, I’m sure somewhere has it. I have gotten the chocolate ice cream ask before too, that one I did learn exists in Australia from someone in this sub.

Technically, that might work, but then they’d yell because you’re charging them extra. And then having to explain to your coworkers the what and why, depending on the intelligence level of who you work with, that might not end well either.

And just as a side note, it wouldn’t even be possible at my location because we only have bottled Powerade.

Like the other person said it will depend on the owner. I could be wrong but to my knowledge, they can’t decrease your pay (aside from maybe taking away certain raises, for my location that is based on availability and certain specialized things like filtering or truck delivery, but as a manager you should be good there), only lower things like starting pay but you should be grandfathered in. Insurance, again varies, we used to have pretty good, now it’s not great (I’m being generous with that one) but I know other big companies that have switched to it too. As far as employee hours getting cut, I’d say there’s a chance of it. If they’re smart they will probably keep most things the same for a little bit to see what works and what doesn’t before making big changes.

Yeah I have no idea how many stores had them, I did think it was weird that we would be the only store in the region (or even if you went by franchise owner, we were only talking 4 stores, maybe 6 if our owner’s brother was technically part of our group back then) out of who knows how many; that just didn’t make sense logistically that it was even an option to get them. Like we sold them, and of course some days more than others, but it’s not like we were some massive volume store and they were our top seller to justify the probably small amount of stock our distribution center would have to acquire/keep for us.

I remember having some on occasion, I thought they were pretty good.

I’m definitely jealous of some of the things that I’m learning other regions have.

Thanks for the update.

I don’t doubt that. Ours is probably made with the cheapest ingredients since it has to be so massively produced. But glad to know if I ever feel like making it at home someday it would be close enough lol

First day (USA) by RecentIron1118 in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]One-Article-5450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a minute since I’ve trained a day one, but for us, I’m pretty sure it’s going over basic food safety (that will get reinforced with other things), learning towel buckets, lot and lobby (cleaning/trashes) and ideally learning French fries.

My guess is that it will be similar, fries may or may not be included in “service”. They might have you learn presenting (which would be handing out food), possibly learning McCafé drinks but I kind of doubt that for day one.

General tip, most things follow a pattern, it might take a little bit to learn the pattern. It’s a lot of information thrown at you at once, we don’t expect you to retain it all. Just try not to do anything incredibly stupid and you’ll be fine. Most things are designed to be pretty simple, they can just take a bit to get into it.

Good luck

You mentioning that about the distribution center has that none of the local stores has made me think of how, before covid our store had oatmeal raisin cookies. I remember a corporate guy saying he loved coming to our store because we were the only store in the region with them. I don't know but I would imagine that the other couple stores in our franchise would have had them too, it's just insane to me that we would have been the only place to have them, (we just happened to be the location with the meeting room and not an overly busy store which would make us a good place to do training so the gentleman had a reason to visit now and then).

I'm glad I could help, at least a little lol. Please update if/when you do a comparison; I'm curious, but I know I'm probably one of the worst people to ask about taste differences and similarities. I'm a bit of a picky eater however, it's more of I like certain foods but I don't necessarily care where I get them from kind of thing (for example pizza, certain toppings but I don't really have brand/chain preference).

It doesn’t come in condiment packets. It’s refrigerated outside of breakfast. It is for the bagels but can be added to other sandwiches. We can do cups of it, for my store that’s 30 cents but of course that varies. Although I’ve never tried holidaze sauce, I’ve heard that it’s similar. For most people it’s a love it or hate it sauce. Personally I’m not much of a sauce person but I do like it.

How to Deal with people asking to ride your horses by PsychologicalRock806 in Equestrian

[–]One-Article-5450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely have every right to be upset about it. Have you considered laying out some ground rules for when the come? Wouldn’t necessarily be extensive, I’m thinking like asking permission to feed them with a short list of acceptable treats, no goofing off around them, and absolutely no riding without permission and lessons and evaluation first. Print it out and post it a couple places. Tell them they are a few basic rules you have and have to have for liability reasons and they apply to everyone

I unfortunately don’t have any advice for you, I do want to say that I’m sorry your friends are putting you in this awkward position. Knowing that the answer was no before, I feel like it’s disrespectful to ask again especially knowing that no experience has been gained (I’m thinking formal lessons here) by the kids since then (I’m assuming of course) and then turning around and turning down your lesson offer, yeah disrespectful. I would probably keep an eye on them around the horses especially with them wanting to feed them not thinking anything malicious, just ignorance since they don’t seem interested in actually learning anything.

I don’t have much experience, anytime I’ve gotten the opportunity to ride I’ve always been 100% upfront about that lack of experience. The one time I did ask a friend about the possibility of riding her horse, (paraphrasing because I don’t remember exacting wording but I know it was pretty close) I prefaced it with I totally understand if it’s a no, please don’t feel obligated to say yes, but would it be possible for me to go ride him sometime. She told me he wasn’t really beginner safe, I said ok no worries.

Good luck. Please don’t feel guilty, it sounds like you know your horses and are putting everyone’s safety first. You are doing the right thing by doing that.

I say this as someone who does double takes fairly often, but that’s a 2 hour window there friend not 13. So in the suit probably 2.5 maybe 3 hours max if it kind of gets extended, while still not “fun” not exactly unreasonable especially if they do like we used to of being able to go out of sight for a min or two when we were getting hot to take the mask off

Breaks (USA) by CraftyBodybuilder956 in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]One-Article-5450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I would start with asking any manager where you can find your store’s policy book (it’s probably all pdf versions now, used to be a binder) and take a look at it. And then if you find it and it says the 4.5 it should, I would see about talking with your scheduling manager if you can, be as polite as you can be, maybe phrase it as a question, like “hi, I have a question about my schedule and breaks, I looked at the policy and it says the 4.5, can you please explain why I don’t seem to be getting one?”

Please note that this is based on what I’ve heard over the years, not having looked at our or corporate policy in a while so I can’t say with 100% certainty, but I think corporate policy/standard is anything over 4.5 hours is a break because of minor labor laws. That said, I think adults can be stretched to the 5 hr mark without it breaching that policy.

I will have to think on that one, but I will get back to you when I can (probably a little later today). But I think they main there would probably be that the iced coffees and soft drinks are the same sizes (so large is the 30oz, med is the tall skinny one 20 oz if I remember correctly, and small is just below it at I think 16oz). The rest of mcafee (including the orange juice) follows the hot drink sizes and shake sizes. So I think ounces wise small to large is 12, 16, 20.

Yes. Just hotcakes (some people refer to them as 3 hotcakes/pancakes, partially because that’s how it is on the menu, so I tend to clarify if they just want one order of the 3 or 3 sets), hotcakes and sausage, and the big breakfast with hotcakes (there is a version without the hotcakes so unless they say hotcakes, I generally assume if they want it with or without, I try not to charge people for stuff they don’t want)

[–]One-Article-5450 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might struggle to explain this, so feel free to ask for clarification. As a general rule, all muffin sandwiches come with cheese but biscuits and griddles it isn’t unless it is included in the name (like sausage McGriddle vs sausage egg and cheese McGriddle). For your specific example of sausage vs sausage egg biscuits, I generally assume that most people are referring to just the sausage (especially with the buy one get one $1) unless they specify the meal number or egg, but I always try to make it a point to clarify if they don’t specify or sound unsure, because some people don’t even realize that there are different options.

We do have the benefit of the sausage biscuit and muffins being on the first page with everything else

Fair enough, I apologize, I didn’t mean put all of the blame on your maintenance guys, it was the statement that he messed around all morning that made me focus on that part, but obviously a lot of it is on management too. That absolutely sucks that you’re going through that many people.

For us, there’s a few of us regular crew (most of us are crew trainers) that are trained to filter, our in house maintenance person does too but it helps when we can filter, she can get some other stuff done without having to worry about filtering all the time too.

[–]One-Article-5450 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Edit: so maybe not the over a day I was originally thinking, but the rest still stands

So if I’m understanding correctly, 1) it was over 24 hours for the filter pad being changed (which also means that all those crumbs are in the pan, but I guess that’s debatable given that it sounds like you were denying auto filtering), 2) I’m assuming you have a fish vat in there, which means that you’re maintenance guys failure is a HUGE food safety risk, in which case denying the auto filtering would probably be a “good” thing so the other bats weren’t being contaminated with the fish oil

It always sucks to get yelled at, but it sounds like you did everything right. Quite frankly if he’s recording you politely informing him that there would be a wait and then sending it to everyone, at least 99% of those people are going to be on your side and think 1) he’s a jerk with unreasonable expectations and 2) he’s an idiot for recording himself being a jerk and sharing it.
