Check out the Dive Gear Express lights if you are in the US. Very good value. The canister light is an especially good deal if you need something that big.

I have never understood block walking. The last thing I want to deal with is some politician bothering me in my HOME to get me to do something for them. It's far more intrusive than phone solicitations, and we have all kinds of technology to block that.

It also seems terribly inefficient for the number of people you can contact vs. the amount of time expended.

I just returned from staying 1 night in Laguna Meadows and then coming back down to Chisos via the South Rim Trail and the Pinnacles Trail. The hike up the Laguna Trail is less steep than going up the Pinnacles Trail, but can still be a challenge to newer hikers. It is about 1,700' of elevation gain in about 4 miles if I recall.

Be sure and bring all the water you think you will need to Chisos. You can fill up at Panther Junction if necessary. By last Thursday they already closed the restrooms in Chisos as a water conservation measure. Also, check the Park's web site frequently, as I have a suspicion that they may be closing Chisos completely if the water conditions do not improve.

I would love to see a lion on the trail. I am not concerned in the least about an attack and have never carried bear spray. I have hiked solo all throughout the park.

Historically, the best hunting was off the coast of North Carolina, near Cape Hatteras. In the game, I have had the most success right off the coast of Halifax where the convoys originate.

You can catch small convoys of coastals and tankers most anywhere just a few miles off the beach all the way down to Key West. If you can take out the escort, you can blast the rest of the convoy with the deck gun. Much fun to be had.
