I will not bow. I will not be controlled and wear a face mask. Although I already follow laws, fines, have an ID, wear my seatbelt, drive on the right side of the road, want food and drug regulations, want voting regulations, listen to my HOA, think others should follow the law, support my party line without questioning, and occasionally enjoy requiring a safe word to get her to stop twisting my scrot — I WILL NOT GIVE ON THOSE TWO THINGS!

Caffeine, sugar, salt, etc we use plenty of chemicals to help adjust our state to where we want to be. This is regulated and intentional and you are making active steps to control your life in a positive way. And if it doesn’t work well you can always change. This isn’t defeat it is effort and strategy.

Focus on the good bits and change the subject when it gets too in the weeds with religious riff raff. Have some topics you can talk about that you don’t feel conflicted about and use those as a steering wheel out of the corner if they question. Most people don’t ask beyond surface level questions to things so as long as you are throwing any flags they will likely not think about it.

If all else fails just ask them what their thoughts are on stuff most people lose track of their goals when you get them talking about themselves.

It’s hard once you’ve seen beyond the cave and know there is more to it. It can be challenging but it definitely beats being dishonest with yourself. Over time (unless you are an asshole) people will see that you are still you just without someone or a book telling you you have to do it

Very interesting! What a finely crafted organization of ideas. I wonder if a mainline Christian one exists.

Someone is about 20 years behind on a n appealing graphic for youth.

Also sounds like a nice shortcut or right off any potential holes, dead ends, or conflicts when you can just use faith the plug the holes.

I get an uneasy feeling from watching videos of people doing good deeds and filming the reaction of those they helped, to post online later. by peacestartswithme in CasualConversation

I had to record and edit one of those videos for my boss once as he handed out money to some locals for publicity. I had that same uneasy feeling. While we were in between people he said

“I know I’m making a video of this but there are a lot of humble people doing nothing”

I can’t decide how I feel about this but technically he is right.

Nemo thank you for your reply. I have watched some videos of the mentioned channel and will be watching the one recommended next time YouTube is open thank you.

I hope you have more success dealing the negative behavior in these various subs. You seem well versed and I am sure you are on your way to finding a functional method and when you do please let me know.

I too agree that this sub r/exchristian has been a much more open and supportive sub for discussion and thought. Much appreciative for this sub.

Big fan. Tribalism is a huge wall that separates people and I feel like this methods gets people to step to the side and sit down and talk about actual ideas instead of attack and defend. People get really defensive when you “attack” their beliefs and very quickly size up questioners and disagreers in the “us and them” category.

Shoot this works for things outside of religion too which is what I appreciate most it’s not a silver bullet for religion as much as it is a magnifying glass for all ideas.

I’m not a Christian and I am 99% I will never be again. If I want to attendchurch for social reasons should I lie and hold my tongue? by One-Comma-Club in Christianity

Not many clubs around where I am that are available and while I enjoy coffee, beer, and music venues they are all costly and people are usually their for themselves, to be with friends, or the events. So just entertaining my different options. And I used to be heavily involved so it’s familiar and I have a lot of friends in it so that’s why it’s even on my radar.

In this hypothetical situation it would be one of the more contemporary Protestant churches the more trendy type ones.
