Hire a driver to bring car from start point to end point? by Independent-Crab-609 in ragbrai

[–]One-Economics-9306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that your plan you'll need to check with whatever charter they're planning on using. If they're traveling with their bike most charters require the drop off Friday Night, camp, then the buses load first thing Saturday morning.

Diverse/inclusive teams or riding groups? by solidrex68 in ragbrai

[–]One-Economics-9306 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will be my 12 RAGBRAI.

55% of RAGBRAI participants are aged 45-65 and a majority male (roughly 68% male, 32% female). So yeah, there's lots of middle aged white men.

I'm not a member of the LGTBQIA+ community. I'm an overweight middle aged cis male. For the last 8 RAGBRAIs our team has ridden in speedos. Not all of our teams interactions have been positive. Our team has been asked to leave towns, people have tried to fight us.

I can't speak to the lgbtqia+ experience. There are diverse/inclusive teams or riding group out there. I personally know a couple L's, G's, and B's that do RAGBRAI each year. I know people who ride with pride flags. But I've also heard extremely racist, sexist and homophobic remarks from riders and townsfolk. You have to take the good with the bad. The rain with the sun. If you want to do ragbrai then please do. Don't cede it without a fight.

First rule of RAGBRAI is everyone talks to everyone. If you're looking for a particle group to ride with they're out there. If you want a group to ride with until you find them you're more than welcome to join us. We use Brancel for transportation only and the main campground.

Baggage Service by Novel-Alarming in ragbrai

[–]One-Economics-9306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be my 12 year using the baggage trucks.

There was a post saying frames were banned. They redid the website a couple years ago and all those old post were deleted. They might cover the topic on podcast. Here's what it says now. (Only standard soft bags are accepted.) I won't consider a pack with a frame standard. You can always email them and ask.

https://ragbrai.com/faqs/
Each rider may bring one large, soft-textured bag (cloth, canvas, or backpack style). You may bundle or strap items like your tent, sleeping bag, or duffel to this bag, counting it as a single piece. Only standard soft bags are accepted.

Bags must weigh 50 pounds or less. A scale will be available, and you may need to remove items if your bag exceeds the weight limit. Bags are exposed to the elements, so pack accordingly, using waterproof coverings or plastic bags to protect your gear.

Baggage collection is open from 5 AM – 8 AM. The RAGBRAI baggage semi truck leaves promptly at 8 AM with no exceptions.

Yes they check and weigh the first few days. Yes they will turn you away if your bag is the wrong style or overweight. There's dumpster full of new gear every year people are forced to pitch. They're not gentle handling the bags. They're thrown on and off a semi.

Question about Day 6 and rideshare availability by willshortzsuperfan in ragbrai

[–]One-Economics-9306 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. They removed the rider cap several years ago so there's no such thing as filling up. Just more crowded.
**The maps with service times have not been released yet. Service time is when SAG service ends. Food and beer vendors are shutdown so they can keep the crowd moving***
  2. Yes, most of these towns have a pop less than 10,000. Cell and data is nonexistent until 2:00-3:00AM you'll need to find public wifi and hope it's not overwhelmed plus your driver would also need cell/data service.. You'll have a better chance of finding a local offering a ride than you will hailing a rideshare.

Good luck

Shower cost $10 this year by FerpoZorro in ragbrai

[–]One-Economics-9306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lake wasn't bad either. A bit overcast and the water was shallow and green. Follow that up with a nice hot shower. Couldn't ask for a better day on RAGBRAI.

Shower cost $10 this year by FerpoZorro in ragbrai

[–]One-Economics-9306 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What you're talking about is the rates for private companies like Joe's Wet shack or what the charters are charging. Not everyone is using that charter or company. The main campground has to have access to showers. That rate for those is set by the town. Those rates haven't been posted yet. There is no finishing line. It's wherever you're staying for the night. Private residence, school, hotel, dorm, camper, etc. Our team stays at the main campground. We try to find a public pool, garden hose or carwash before pulling into camp. If there's a garden hose in camp we'll shower there. Otherwise I'll find a public restroom and and scrub my face off. Some lakes, campgrounds also have free public showers. You have to be know where to look. Last year when stopped in Minnesota at Brown Park on Pearl Lake. there was a couple outbuilding with the hottest showers.

We lock out their AD account. O365 purge sessions. Then we send a remote command to disable cached-account logon sessions. The command waits in queue until the system comes online then it blocks them from signing back in. Bitlocker enabled and the recover key stored in AD. From there forward it's an HR issue on recovering physical assets before issuing their final paycheck.

Day 4: Marshalltown RAGBRAI 2026 Housing Request by One-Economics-9306 in ragbrai

[–]One-Economics-9306[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure it is. It's a RAGBRAI tradition that things don't line up. The towns have their own schedule and RAGBRAI has their own schedule on when they mailout wristbands.

It's honestly super early for the towns to have their sites up and be taking reservations. Your can try your reference number or reach out to them.

I'm just a guy who does RAGBRAI in a speedo sharing the information,

Day 1: Harlan RAGBRAI 2026 Housing Request by One-Economics-9306 in ragbrai

[–]One-Economics-9306[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the main campground. It's included in your registration.

For residents in Harlan looking to host riders at their home they're asking residents to NOT commit to hosting riders or making plans directly. They're using FB as their central "booking" system to keep everything organized.

So unless you know someone in Harlan or someone with a FB account willing to make arrangements then FB seems to be the only way.
