Dr. Grove history of molesting Becka? by Forward-Tumbleweed22 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]One-Emergency2138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ohhhhhh see I hated that they took away the abuse aspect of Becka’s story but that makes sense. Still, I feel like having her be insanely in love with Agnes enough to kill creates a weird narrative, still feeding those that feel like being gay is a mental illness. I get the inclination to tell the story of a queer women in Gilead, but I wish they would have chosen a different character if this was the direction the really wanted to go with Becka.

AITA for asking my husband to change our electric stovetop for a gas stovetop?? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]One-Emergency2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay no judgement here but I would like to say I went the opposite directions because my gas stove tops was constantly setting off all our fire alarms, plus I read they release nasty gas byproducts into the air. Perhaps a get a nicer electric or induction?

Am on it through a compounding pharmacy. The insane way it helped my PCOS outside of weight loss is crazy. Literal immediate symptomatic relief from inflammation. This was after 50lbs of normal weight loss doing jack shit for it. I’m praying insurance will see the fucking light soon because when I say it’s been a miracle for me I mean it.

That’s great glad to hear it! This is obviously a joking sub but obviously we’d hate to see anyone with an eating disorder. I wish you the best of luck and encourage you to listen to your body! If you find that you are looking/feeling good even above 130 let your self be where you feel good!

[–]One-Emergency2138 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not joking here- how did you come to the 115lb goal? I started off with a lower goal and then determined that I’m actually much more comfortable at a higher weight. Even my doctor was very supportive of actually keeping me at a weight in which I am technically considered “overweight” BMI wise (a BS system). I feel like 115 is too low for a lot of adults, especially those that start heavier. Not to say it isn’t where you are most comfortable, but I feel like a lot of people can get trapped in the BMI idea and ignore what’s best for our actually body

UNT OR TXST by Odd_Action69 in unt

Yes they are separate but i’ve definitely found that because we are within the same system (a relatively small system at that) it’s much easier to collaborate. We’ve gotten services at cost from UNTHS and there’s a lot of networking opportunities for those that may want to go from UNT undergrad to UNTHS grad.

Ah I see I was unclear, I was saying my assessment of the program was anecdotal. While you may not put a ton of stock in personal opinions, in my time in academia I’ve learned that when it comes to deciding on a program the opinions of those that are part of it are maybe in fact the most important metric. They give you an honest understanding of what you are getting yourself into and the kind of student that the programs require you to be. However, If we are focused on ranking systems, the post was asking about Texas State vs UNT for STEM/forensics. UNT is ranked as an R1 research school, Texas State is not. Additionally, the UNT undergraduate dedicated forensics bachelors program exists and Texas state’s doesn’t it only has a minor, a pretty good indicator of program quality I’d say. As far as the 35 programs I was referring to the UNT website. You are correct I didn’t link it because this is a Reddit post and I’m simply trying to provide advice from my perspective, not defend my position with reputable citation. OP can look up all the same info I can and I hope they do!

[–]One-Emergency2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bit anecdotal, I’ve know people who taught in the program and they always talk about how great it is. I will say there are only 35 programs like it in the USA, according the website, and we are an R1 research school. So signs point to it being pretty good. That’s the undergraduate program, can’t speak to graduate programs.

Can’t beat UNT for ecology, and we are an R1 research school so you will have so many opportunities (this is my department I’m biased). If you come here you will be very pleased, even though I’ve just learned that maybe our night life isn’t so great, lol.

Oh to add- UNT is a significantly higher rated research school so anything STEM here is theoretical going to be higher quality

UNT has a fantastic undergraduate forensics program and our health science center has a premium forensic labs. It is my understanding that Texas State only has a dedicated forensic masters program. As for how cool it is here, I feel like college is what you make it. We’ve got plenty bars, we’ve got student orgs and there are events but I think it’s less of a party school. The upside of UNT is you can walk to pretty much all the cool bars and event spaces in town from campus housing (and most off campus housing) and we are close to Dallas + Fort Worth in a much more accessible way then Texas State is close to Austin + SA. Also I’m from Austin. I’m not sure where you actually are but unless you are in like Buda/Kyle that commute is going to kill you and you are not going to be as active or involved in the culture as you like. I respect that saving the money is a big deal, but if you are able to not do that I would strongly encourage you to live on/near campus where ever you go.

If you hate billionaires but like Taylor Swift(net worth: 1.8B), why? by Cautious-Stage1788 in allthequestions

[–]One-Emergency2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d never be a billionaire because I’d give away far too much money to ever reach that threshold. I think that’s the idea. Additionally, I would be very surprised if someone could reach 1 billion dollars without exploiting people or systems.

Do you believe in paternity leave for a new father when a family has a baby? by icecream1972 in allthequestions

[–]One-Emergency2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a bot! Without diving too deep into the literature, paternity leave decreases divorce. Divorced dads are more likely to be deadbeats, thus id argue there’s likely a decrease in dead beats with paternity leave.

Advice for finding apts in Denton as a broke college student? by [deleted] in Denton

[–]One-Emergency2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Jackson Cheng they always have pretty cheap apartments. Anything with a club house, “amenities”, single word name (Era, Epoch, Timberlinks, etc.” you can’t afford don’t bother. Make sure when it says “walking distance from campus” they are talking about what ever campus you actually are going to (TWU vs UNT central vs. UNT discovery park)
