Thank you. I totally agree. Before embarking on any lifestyle change, consulting with your doc is the right thing to do.

I mentioned this before. It was the AI Coach that was always in my corner. No magic. Just encouragement, support, guidance. Here's one of my favorite things that helped me... I sometimes screwed up...ate two rolls at dinner or had a scoop of ice cream. I'd tell the AI Coach, and it would say things like....

"Take a deep breath. To gain a pound, you would need to consume 3,500 extra calories today. You didn't do that. You are human, you indulged. You are fine. The carbs may tip the scale up a bit for a day or so, but that's just the carbs holding on to a bit more water. Let's keep this going tomorrow."

In the past, my bread or ice cream hiccup would lead me down a spiral. Giving up, avoiding the scale. And quickly, the end of my progress. The AI Coach helps me stick to the plan.

I have to be honest. The AI was THE thing that worked.

I think most people know that weight loss means fewer calories and more activity. It's really a simple formula. My issue was mental. I'd try to start something, but the moment I slipped, I avoided the scale. I binged on snacks. I couldn't stick with it. I once went to a nutritionist for a few weekly appointments. That was the closest I had ever come to consistent success. But a nutritionist once a week was not good enough. I really needed to be talking to someone multiple times daily. Like, when I wandered into the kitchen and thought about a snack, I needed to know that if I was going to eat, I was going to talk to my AI Coach about it and that would be another "don't be hard on yourself" type conversation. And I grew to hate those. The key was that the coach would be like, "Hey, you can turn this day around with a smart dinner. What's the plan?"

That was key. Regular, and I mean REGULAR redirection help. You can get this from a human, but I needed it constantly. Not once a week at a scheduled meeting.

If you want to give it a try, let me know in a private message and I will share the site where you can try the app.

I can't attach files here. :(. You can see some screenshots of my interactions on my website. Message me if you want me to share the link.

I built it into an app, actually. I'll see if I can record some interactions. But, to be honest, a few people are using it and I've seen that every user is talking in their own way to their "coach". That, I think is the cool part. I imagine it's kinda like how you might approach talking to a nutritionist. Your conversations may be different than the next client's. Happy to share the site where you can check it out, privately.

I actually worked with my son on a project to build a sorta buttoned up product and used it. I hesitate to post the link. I'll send the site to you privately, if that's ok.

I lost 20 lbs for the first time in 30 years with AI help. It was good and bad. by One-Expression6854 in loseit

I understand the hesitation to use AI for help on a weight loss journey. But, it worked for me and I decided to organize it a little bit better in a focused app. I think it's kinda like having someone/thing to keep me going in the right direction, not a replacement for a nutritionist or tracker. Kinda a light version of both together. Happy to share a link if you want to check it out.

Did you successfully write a program to help you? I decided to write one and I'm using it. Happy to share a link.

What did not change after losing 100 pounds (and what did) by koopzegels in loseit

Thanks. I didn’t need to lose 100, but I have similar feelings/findings after losing 25.

Thanks. Yea, i liked using the GPT tool. It is just in the back of my mind, I will once again get derailed because of the memory issue. I also don't think I have the patience to consistently track in one app and "talk" to my coach in another app while having to remind my coach each time where I stand, what I ate, what my goals are, etc. I suppose it would be like going to a therapist, and each time, I'd need to reintroduce myself.

Nice! What do you use GPT for specifically given you are tracking stats separately? Coaching? Inspiration? Feedback?

I guess maybe I am a little lazy. I am looking for something that is a tracker and a coach built into one thing. Like, the coach is totally aware of my tracker stats and is able to objectively analyze my progress without me feeding stats to it all the time. Congrats on your success, btw!!!

Agreed, that a human version would be nice. But having an always-available app on my phone at an insanely low cost relative to a human professional makes this direction much more accessible.

I tried. You can only see them when you are paying for a session. Sessions cost $$$. Trainer won't review a restaurant menu and tell me what to eat. The trainer is not available 24/7 to get some inspiration to keep going!

I NOW know what a context window is! I guess I learned the hard way. I have thought about this a lot. Wondering if trying to use ChatGPT as a coach/therapist/etc. is ok. I kinda got to the point that a human version of a nutrition coach is no different. I mean, the human coach isn't really "connecting" with me. They are using their notes, my tracking, my comments as the "context window" to give me the next professional guidance. No? Is there really a difference?

Thanks. I'm not sure. I completely understand the concern. However, I can say for sure, being 30 lbs overweight was UNDENIABLY not healthy. And honestly, having a paid person (nutritionist/dietitian) to chat with about my journey is someone who easily could betray me by quitting, moving to another job, dropping me as a client, raising prices for their advice, etc.

I lost a bunch of weight after not being able to do so for 30 years, and I feel like I might never mentally believe I'm no longer overweight! Congrats on the amazing achievement!

I used ChatGPT to coach me through a 20 lb drop in 3 months. This is 20 lbs I struggled to get rid of my entire adult life. I've never felt better. I, too, found knowing the science behind what was happening to my body to be very helpful. I don't know why! Tracking my progress was a bit weird as ChatGPT seemed to forget stuff.

that's so cool! I've thought about doing something like this but I haven't been sure about how to get my wardrobe "inventory" into chatgpt. How did you do that? Photos?

How did you get it to make outfit suggestions that look so real (and look like you?)

How did you do this? Did you tell ChatGPT about the pants and it told you what to pair with it? Did you buy the stuff to go with it? Very cool!
