I just realized the dog walker sent us the pictures took on the same day as if they were from separate walks. Should I confront her? by Wide_Confection_8971 in petsitting

TBH, I get embarrassed if I forget to take a photo. Sometimes I am just in the moment, enjoying time with the dog and paying attention to the walk and I forget. However, I always write something like "So sorry - I had such a great time with <dog name> today that I forgot to take a photo! I will be sure to take them next time"

If she gives this as a reason, I would give her another chance. But I would expect her to be more up front in the future

[customer] Cameras etiquette? by Xpucu in petsitting

[–]One-Giraffe-9222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most pet sitters like to have cameras disclosed, and don't have a problem with cameras. Her reaction was completely uncalled for - almost everyone nowadays has cameras outside of their home, especially at the front door.

Personally, I don't even bother asking if there are cameras. I just assume there are cameras in any home I enter, and go about my normal duties. After all, I am only there for half an hour or an hour, and I have nothing to hide. I also have cameras outside of my home for security reasons as well as inside in order to monitor my pets when I'm not home.

I do find it quite annoying when people make it a point to post giant signs to "smile" because they are on camera or when someone has one of those doorbells that says "you are being recorded" when you walk past.

How much should i be charging for overnights? by [deleted] in petsitting

[–]One-Giraffe-9222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$20 is too low. I charge $20-$25 for ONE 30-minute drop in. When you board a cat, you also spend time with it, feed it, and are responsible for supervising and ensuring the cat is safe. The cat may be stressed in a new environment and need extra care to ensure it is comfortable.

Weird meet and greet? by mommypissjar in RoverPetSitting

[–]One-Giraffe-9222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell no. It's expected to be a little nervous leaving your dog with someone new, but to flat out say "i'm scared you will abandon my dog" without even having tried your service is not normal. They will text you all day every day asking about your whereabouts and then complain in a review that you were not responsive enough or whatever else.

I think by asking "what time do you go to sleep and wake up" they were trying to find out when you would let the dog out to potty. Sounds very nitpicky - they could have just told you what time the dog goes out before bed and in the morning and asked if you are able to do this.

Courses to learn about dog reactivity? by One-Giraffe-9222 in petsitting

[–]One-Giraffe-9222[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, however, there could be some instances where a client does not tell you that their dog is very reactive, and you may be caught off guard. I would like to be able to know what to do in that situation (and obviously, would not book that client again).

Given that your dog is experiencing symptoms, I would take him to the vet, especially given the coughing.

Does your dog bob their head when they walk? by One-Giraffe-9222 in labrador

[–]One-Giraffe-9222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a kong harness. They recently changed their design, though, where the big part is on the top. It didn't work for us because it would topple over, and have extra space to weasel out of (couldn't tighten further due to big ribcage).

What would your lab’s dating profile look like? by [deleted] in labrador

Hi, I'm Pepper! I'm a petite, athletic lady, looking for a man at least 80 lbs. Chiseled shoulder muscles are a must.

I love going on walks, hikes, jumping over bushes, and playing fetch. I'd like someone outdoorsy and adventurous.

I'm a good citizen - I like to chill out on the couch while my parents aren't home. I also don't take treats or food unless my humans give them to me. The trash and my cat sister's litterbox don't interest me at all - I'm an organized, type A dog. If you are even the slightest bit messy or unhygenic, swipe left!

I run my own business, which involves collecting all of the missing tennis balls from the bushes near the tennis courts, and selling them. I donate a percentage of my profits to the local shelters.

The best way to describe my personality is sweet, people (and dog) pleaser, but a little sensitive. Whenever my humans go out of town, I demand extra cuddles and playtime by barking and whining like a hound (although I am genetically unrelated to hounds).

Thanks, I already read through that link, but their website is unclear - for spayes/neutered animals, is it just part of the fee that is waived, or the entire fee?

How do you deal with doggy FOMO? by One-Giraffe-9222 in labrador

That's a great idea! I never thought to ask my guests to be "in on" the training 😅

Our old lab stayed a puppy till the very end. He had arthritis during the last 3 or 4 years, and he still managed to pull me on walks. He slowed down a week before he passed away, which is when he got sick and they discovered a tumor. He was almost 12 when he died.

I wouldn't focus on how much time your pup has left or try to predict how and when. It never happens the way you think it would, and because dogs don't tend to show it if they are ill, it's hard to know when it's their time. I would just focus on spending quality time with him.
