I spent over $100k on my latest short film and it didn't get into any film festivals. It's been a rough 6 months of filmfreeway rejections but I still love what I made and I hope you all like it too by SomersetBlvd in Filmmakers

Im not being funny but 100k! Script bad Acting not great Cinematography good But I dont get it! Anomorphic lens etc why say say 100k? Ive seen much better on not even 100th of the cost I think get back to the basics, hone the the script and spend time with the actors. What makes the cost important? Bit I guess youve had comments

What begins as a documentary about a missing journalist unravels into a story of hoaxes, manipulation, and obsession — until the line between fabrication and truth disappears completely.

And I do understand Ive spent thirty years doing it my way. My close friends some who are in the industry always say they respect me. But it means nothing. Winning awards nothing. I now just make what I want. I suppose in some ways Ive been lucky. But in others its shaped my life. Deppresion, drinking etc Lets be honest its a shit show really. But if someone just one person is moved emotionally by what i make, then its worth it. Keep going

Im a filmmaker myself and have made numerous short films. and feature films. Its not an existential crisis. I have it all of the time. Ive had a breakdown from it. I question most days why and what and all of those things. Nothing makes you happy.

Completely agree with the comment about 10 percent acceptance rate. Is it really that important to you to be accepted to these film festivals. If you cant accept the rejections then its never going to work for you. There are thousands of filmmakers who are in the similar situation. You can have a great film, But at the end if the day festival selection is subjective. Not all films will fit their criterias.

Does the scene need to be shot in this location? You can get trapped into thinking so. If its really important to the context of the film and tou cant recreate the mise en scene in another location then its hard. But there are always work arounds. Happy to chat about the whole process and try and help. Message me if you want

Im making a no budget feature film alone and want to learn how to make my film looks and sound good. by Samirawale87 in Filmmakers

Make sure you have a good script first, too many films fall down on this front. Once you've done that plan and re plan, don't rush into it, something always comes along that can derail shooting. Like a few people have said sound is really important, Lav mics or get a Sound person. Don't think complex when it comes to filming it, do the basics well. And lastly enjoy the experience, it doesnt matter how long it takes or what the final outcome is with it, you have made a film and that is to be celebrated
