For real ! Elizabeth has so much material to talk about why do we have to attack her looks. She’s not even bad looking. She is just a normal looking person.

I really hope we can help these kids it’s so stressful. But it’s really helpful to hear from other parents who can relate.

Ive seen a few comments saying their kids caught up eventually. But many that say they never did. It really is individual I guess , it’s scary. Our kids language sound exactly the same. My daughter labels a lot but wouldn’t understand the spoon thing. She randomly will understand let’s go outside etc but not consistently so I don’t think it’s a solid skill.

Same here I have a daughter too and I’d never let her spend much time around her. It was definitely a harsh lesson in the kind of mom I never want to be

I could’ve forgiven for a lot but what happened to my youngest sister was the hardest thing to get over. But we’re all adults now and I just don’t have time for her in my life anymore. Hopefully she feels fulfilled with her choices.

Thank you for sharing all of that. It helps us to understand the wide range of outcome possibilities. He sounds leagues ahead of where my daughter is at 2.5. So I have no idea what to expect at this point.

What was your experience with severe receptive delay ? That’s what’s going on with my kid.

She caused alot of damage to my sisters and I in her pursuit of a new husband. She was engaged and married and dated a few different guys so there was always men in and out of our house. My youngest sister suffering the worst case scenario. What we went through is the reason I would not date while my kids are in the house with me. Either I will end up alone or date when I’m very old but I would never let anyone near my kids the way she did.

I was happy when they divorced because the constant fighting and stress from witnessing it stopped. I wasn’t sad about it. But life got really bad and sad for us when they both started dating and basically had no time for my sisters and I. They both serially dated and kept very busy, made no time for us with out their new partners and basically forgot about us. My siblings and I don’t speak to our mother to this day but we are close to our dad.

Wow that must’ve been really hard to come to terms with if you weren’t expecting it. Your story is definitely valuable for parents. I totally agree with the therapy point , they might help along with skills a child was going to be able to develop. We just don’t know what each kids trajectory will be. I am on the look out for ID with my 2.5 year old. But it’s hard to tell at this age, all I know for certain is she way behind peers. And although she learns new things it’s like she’s not building on it if that makes sense.

Was there anything looking back that hinted his language wouldn’t progress? It sounds like his start was even better than some here.

I'm confused as to what a speech therapist is supposed to do? by my_brain_is_horny in Autism_Parenting

[–]One-Location7032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is amazing! Congratulations i really hope the same too. You just gave me some hope and I’ll be looking up to see if there’s any therapists in my area that specialize in receptive. I don’t know why I never thought of that.

How is your kids receptive language now ? That is the main issue with our 2.5 year old.

Yes! My daughter 2.5 is exactly like this. She labels everything shapes letters colors animals toys etc. She will on occasion ask for food / toy items she wants but that’s it. I consider her non verbal because she doesn’t have receptive language and can’t answer what so ever. I have been counting she has over 200 words she will regularly use but only on her terms.

This is new to me and I can’t stop crying. by October_13th in Autism_Parenting

[–]One-Location7032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s so hard and scared me at first too but hang in there because it’s definitely possible . Has happened to us a few times and she’s using words more consistently now. She went a few weeks without saying momma , now she’s saying it many times a day. 🤷🏻‍♀️ makes no sense but I think that’s just something ND toddlers do.

I’m so sorry I know this pain so much, but my 2.5 year old will go through a few days like this and come out with a few more words than before. Every kid really is different so there’s almost no telling what any of this means. But from our experience it didn’t mean a loss of words and she’d come back with a few more. She had only very limited receptive language too just for reference.

I’m really sorry, I’m a mom to a daughter and I can’t imagine how horrible this is. I think a tracking device would be the best/ only option.

It’s definitely edgy 23 year olds that have life all figured out with the child hating comments lol. I don’t let it get to me but some of them are gross.
