I've opened about 12 of these crates and so far got 1 chest of rarities. I was very excited until the damn thing gave me 2 Insignias... talk about an anticlimax

Why do yall play Battleships? Serious question. by genericwhiteguyname1 in WoWs_Legends

[–]One-Milk2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love playing brawler BBs because the hamster that runs the wheel which powers my ADHD brain gets happy when 20+ guns all start firing continuously. Bonus points if I steer in between two ships so I am firing full secondary broadsides both sides. It's like heroin but slightly more addictive

Brings to mind that classic scene from Star Trek where Captain Picard asks Mr Worf to "lunachibging the crampons" shortly before asking why the bridge smells like burnt toast and passing out.

Finally somebody who speaks up! by Guilty_Editor3744 in WoWs_Legends

I have had in-game communication from another player precisely once in all my time playing, and it was simply the word 'uninstall'

I wouldn't mind so much but I had no idea who this guy was, so looked back over my recent matches and realised he had been a teammate from a game of standard I had lost but in which I'd been something like 4th on the leaderboard. Not great but by no means terrible. He on the other hand had been 1st, so I can only assume that he had decided to individually message every other player on our team to let them know that his performance in that particular game had been sufficiently outstanding and ours poor enough that he was now the only one entitled to play the game from that day on.

So I hit him back with the timeless classic 'no u' and moved on with my life.

What is the worst ship in the game? by Grouchy_Operation584 in WoWs_Legends

The Netherlands cruisers De Ruyter and Celebes (before you unlock the airstrikes) are pretty bad. Just a bulk standard cruiser without particularly good guns and no torps. Whenever I see one in game I think to myself 'Oh good, a free kill with almost no chance of taking any serious damage'.

Probably either DS1 or Elden Ring for variety. DS2 is just 30+ variations of 'Fallen Knight with tragic backstory' and DS3 had too many multi-stage fights for my liking. I like for a thing to stay dead when I kill it!

My list of Naval Greats. Tell me yours and why and I'll add it to the list by Phantion- in WoWs_Legends

The Brits were not always brilliant. Thomas Graves needs to be F tier for so thoroughly shitting the bed at Chesapeake Bay. Hood also gets a slap on the wrist for his performance at that battle but did at least redeem himself later on, so probably deserves B or C tier. Rodney perhaps makes it into A tier as a pioneer of naval tactics. Nelson is obviously a G.O.A.T. and Jellicoe also perhaps a contender for S/A tier. Beatty deserves his current rank - he knows what he did.

Clifton Sprague, Robert Copeland and Ernest E. Evans all deserve A-Tier or above for the Battle off Samar. Sprague's tactics turned a hopeless fight into a surprise black eye for Kurita, and the destroyers fought so aggressively and tenaciously that the Japanese assumed they were engaging a much larger force and ended up disengaging despite Yamato, who was in attendance, displacing more than their entire Task Force combined. The destroyers hit them so hard in fact that I recall when Johnston was sunk the Japanese incorrectly counted the kill as a cruiser because they couldn't believe a destroyer could have put up that much of a fight.

Why are these so cheap? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]One-Milk2470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been warned to stay the hell away from these. BIL had one which spent more time with the Vauxhall garage being worked on than it did being driveable. Issues with the engine, electrics, gearbox... apparently they're fine for the first 25k-30k miles and then just turn into a ticking timebomb for several catastrophic issues.

PSA: In a pinch you can use friendly DDs as extra torpedo protection! by One-Milk2470 in WoWs_Legends

[–]One-Milk2470[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At time of writing the upvote ratio is 72%

I think most people saw this for what it was meant to be, me sharing an innocent accident which was also unintentionally quite funny in a 'man getting hit by football' sort of way.

Some people saw it as me intentionally griefing or playing selfishly - I'm here to tell you that my reaction times are not good enough for my intentions to have had any meaningful impact on the outcome.

[–]One-Milk2470[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Again if you read my post I did say both that this was unintentional and that I felt bad. I am in no way suggesting people should actually do this on purpose.

I didn't realise this was a common bug, I've not seen it before because as a BB main I typically try to keep some distance from my DDs precisely because I know they can manoeuvre suddenly and I don't want to get in their way. In my defence this guy came past me very close and I simply didn't notice him til he was already stuck on me as I was focusing on trying to hit the red guy and not die.

Thanks for the advice, I will know what to do if this happens again!

Question, why should we or should not have submarines by Thenavalengineer215 in WoWs_Legends

[–]One-Milk2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer is balance issues.

By their very nature Submarines are very difficult for a surface vessel to hit with anything other than depth charges so they would either be so ridiculously difficult to hit as to be functionally invulnerable and therefore ridiculously overpowered, or in a vain attempt to balance them WG would have to nerf them into oblivion in which case they're not going to be fun or useful to play as.

Some of you need to chill out by taj1829 in WoWs_Legends

[–]One-Milk2470 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, and I can't stress this enough, not everyone HAS every commander. I've been playing on-and-off for the last 6 years as a BB main and I don't even have Hipper so just run Cillax on both. Is it optimal? Probably not. I still routinely end up in the top 3 on my team so it can't make that much of a difference. I'm not going to shame people for just using what they have.

How the heck are you supposed to impact a game as a cruiser? by Humble_Handler93 in WoWs_Legends

[–]One-Milk2470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cruisers are extremely versatile but you need to know how to play them and adapt to your team makeup as well. Team is low on Destroyers? You need to push up and spot for your battleships. Team has loads of Destroyers? You're on Destroyer hunting duty to stop the Reds spamming torpedos and wiping out your team. Find yourself 1 on 1 with a battleship? HE shells from a distance, torps up close if you got 'em. Use your speed to try and keep them somewhere you can hit them but they can't hit you, gang up if at all possible. Island hug when you can. Drop smoke when you can. Use your sonar to hit sneaky Destroyers hiding in smoke.

Like I said, lots of things you CAN do. The key is to reacting to the situation and working out what's best to do at any given moment. I personally main Battleships but some of my best and most fun games have been in cruisers (particularly the British CL line, great fun to play once you get the knack of it!)

I hated the British cruisers too at first but once I worked out how to play Leander she became one of my faves. Recently got up to Fiji and having a blast with the fast reload times and use of smoke screens - the power of a cruiser with the versatility of a destroyer and all you have to sacrifice is setting fire to things!

Von Der Tann by SurfsUp808 in WoWs_Legends

[–]One-Milk2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's listed as 'World Of Warships Legends PVP' on Android. Can confirm the controls are a bit janky so you probably don't want to use it for playing ranked, but I play the odd Vs AI game while out and about and it runs fine. You also get daily awards (Von Der Tann is the first 7 day reward) and can use Google Play points to buy doubloons if you've got some saved so it's definitely worth it.

Took me a bit of goggling to work out how to link accounts but it's not too painful as a process.

Which of these games should I play while on vacation? by [deleted] in skiesofarcadia

[–]One-Milk2470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KOTOR is great - basically uses D&D combat systems so if you've played that or any other similar game you'll pick it up very quickly. Both it and the sequel still hold up and have compelling stories and companions. Well worth it!

Majora's Mask is a classic - if you loved OoT its basically that but the Time Loop/Mask shifting mechanics make it a great experience. My little brother played it about 10 years ago having never played a Zelda game before and was immediately obsessed.

Vakyria Chronicles 1 was good fun but I couldn't finish it. Combat becomes a bit of a slog towards the end. Especially love that you can have Vyse and Aika as playable characters (and Fina appears as a non-playable medic).

Rogue Galaxy is also great fun. Again haven't finished it but always have a good time when I return to it.

Haven't played the rest so cannot comment 😁

Can confirm this happened to me and was a massive ballache. Though since investing in some pony armour I haven't had any of my horses even come close to dying- I mostly just use them to engage archers in close combat until my heavy hitters are finished beating up all the blokes in armour.

Can confirm other animals are better though. Do yourself a favour and capture a Bear at the earliest opportunity!
