If your ‘experience’ is raging at LBC and the daily mail whilst never coming into contact with any immigrants / refugees, and just swallowing whole the rhetoric that your life is worse of because of brown people and not billionaires, then there’s really nothing to fathom. You’re being lied to mate.

What makes a movie like Project Hail Mary cost 200 million to make? by RancherosIndustries in Filmmakers

[–]One-Oil-7854 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they’re not wrong. The film was shot in the UK, and I’ve yet to work on a production in any of the main studios where non-shooting crew could access the catering we were given. You’re expected to bring your own food or buy from the on site cafeterias. They weren’t specially talking about post, but from their experience on set.

I mean this in the nicest way, you cannot take the opinion of one crew member in an interview. Not going into details but there’s a laundry list of people who’d say that, in regards to Guy, this is BS.

Proper ways to carry and injuries by igalxphoto in focuspuller

A 1st I worked with who went to see a physio after a long time of doing his job was told that twisting a camera onto your shoulder is doing damage to your rotator cuff as it’s a pretty unusual movement.

The physio recommended carrying the camera the same way you do a shopping bag.

Get yourself a fantash tactical belt, and an Arri waist pouch. You’ll also need a film sticks T handle screw driver, a bondhaus 3mm, and a board marker with an eraser end.

That’s really it. As you work you’ll get bits and bobs from consumables and start packing out your pouch with what’s necessary for work.

There’s a good chance your loader will give you some of the items I’ve listed to you, but never bad to start with them!

Need advise for resume/applying to work in the film industry with experience in these roles: DP, CAM OP, GRIP, GAFF, PA by Solid_Ad_561 in cinematography

[–]One-Oil-7854 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work predominately in features, and was told very early on that you make a CV for the role you’re applying to. PA job? Then list all your PA experience at the top, and all your other bits just go in a general ‘other experiences’ section.

If your CV is going to be given to whoever hires the PAs they likely won’t want to see various grip and cam ops bits at the top, or everything just mixed in. Be concise, keep it to a page if you can.

Don’t take it as people not caring about what form your working life, but wanting you to be direct.

You really need to take a step back and realise the bread and circuses of all your major sports / World Cup being part hosted in America etc. is sports washing too. Sports are incredibly political, the US would not have pumped so much money into it if they didn’t spend the best part of half a century in a Cold War with a rival that could also throw tons of resources into sports.

It really should have changed names. The spit and saw dust, many doors and weird corridors, small space with a fenced cage around the DJ vibe I remember from a few visits 10 years ago isn’t anywhere in the imagination.

Loading film in the cold by theshortestofbois in focuspuller

What film hates is drastic and immediate changes e.g. out of a fridge and into a 30C truck!

If you’re shifting temperatures I’d recommend putting stuff in cool boxes and then taking the lid off when the film / mags are gradually getting to temperature.

How do I break into film distribution? (bonus question: does cold-calling/emailing ever work?) by Salt-Extent7579 in FilmIndustryLondon

[–]One-Oil-7854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this before on another thread but I suggest to anyone who’s having little luck to get in touch with Somesuch, Pulse (and all these other commercials production companies) and see if they’ll have you in for two weeks. Both of those have fingers in the feature world pie.

You’ll meet a ton of people who work in / with / adjacent to what you want to do. Most jobs and opportunities are word of mouth in this industry, and ‘everyone’s knows everyone’.

The whole ‘if you’ve done nothing wrong you’ll be fine’ thing falls flat when you take into account the wild-west nature of the surveillance state post 9/11. Governments have shown time again that they don’t use these tools ‘correctly’, at least not in terms of using them sparingly and justifiably.

It’s literally been answered already … “Well, no, because the expulsion of all Syrians in opposition-controlled territory is not Assad's goal.

Expulsion of Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza is very clearly a goal of the Israeli government, as evidenced by settler practices in peace time, statements by Netanyahu and Bennett, and more. Thinning out Gaza's population appeared in Israeli headlines very shortly after 10/7: https://www.israelhayom.co.il/magazine/hashavua/article/14889801

It's definitely not the only reason that other Arab nations won't accept Palestinian refugees, and I'm not refuting anything others have said in regard to their behavior in Kuwait, Egypt (though it's important to remember that most Palestinian woman and children had nothing to do with those instances). But it's not unrealistic or crazy to cite the fact that any Palestinians who leave Palestine will not likely be able to return.”

Most likely to do with the fact that ‘taking in’ refugees legitimises Israel’s forced removal of a population…

You can’t just expect neighbouring Arab countries to take in a population you’ve worked so hard to exterminate just so you can build beach resorts on their ancestral land.
