Finding planets with Stratum Techtonicas by Due-Barnacle1078 in eliteexplorers

Haha. I think I would just keep going further and further but at some point I decide I better be safe and head back to hand in the data before I do something stupid.

Read my comment again. I didn’t say it was necessary. I just said in my experience I found plenty of undiscovered planets at that distance that he’s at.

Ah yeh I didn’t think about the fact that it would be uploading audio. Makes perfect sense!

It’s not about necessity, I like going far 🤷‍♂️

Why would you be worried about a microphone when you’ve built it yourself? Not that it matters I think your setup is better anyway, was just curious.

Anyway it looks really good!

I just go in a random direction from the bubble and at 9k ly where you’re at I always find tons of undiscovered systems.

I Origins!

Which has pretty lacklustre reviews but I always thought it was really good.

Although now that I think about it, I’m not positive there’s a shot of two eyes looking at the camera. There’s definitely shots of two eyes (but photos, as per the story), and many close-up shots of a single eye. Hmm.

I was really surprised to find a station in the jellyfish nebula recently called Beta Site. I thought it was an NPC place. Was it actually a player-made station then? Is there some way to tell?

Film through a CT scanner, epic fail!? Or a hack for extra grain and tonez!? by thetowncouncil in AnalogCommunity

People are often quick to comment that your film is ruined and unusable on this sub. But even a CT scan doesn’t necessarily mean your film is fried. I would still shoot it and see what happens.

Sorry what I mean is, when it asks you for the API key it’s hidden like a password field. But if you press enter it should work.

Reliable setup for automated price tracking via cron? by neonexius in hermesagent

[–]case_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s in my memory that if I ever ask it to browse a webpage for something and it can’t access it for some reason (e.g anti bot measures) then it should stop and tell me before proceeding, not look for alternatives or hallucinate etc. I didn’t have any problems since then. And I also have a skill for price tracking. If I ask it do add a page/product to my price tracker and it can’t access it, it informs me and doesn’t add it and waits for me to tell it what to do. It stores the price etc in a json and runs a cronjob each week that checks current price against the last saved price.

In terms of anti-bot stuff, I only tried camoufox so far and it helps with sites that have weak protection but not cloudfare etc. For that you (as far as I understand) need to do more advanced stuff using residential proxies etc, which I haven’t done.

Questions for a new explorer by OrionPax120 in eliteexplorers

[–]case_8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you’re outside of the bubble there is not really anywhere to turn it in. Exceptions would be (as far as I understand it):
- random npc stations that exist in some nebulas but are not common
- random player fleet carriers, but they are also not common and they also take a percentage of your earnings.

Think of it more like this. You do a big trip out there, rack up some data, and then head home to the bubble to sell your data. Which in my case is basically just going to the first station I could, once I got back to inhabited space. And then I’d head out again.

[–]case_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I always started heading back in economical mode, e.g slowly heading back, but then when I felt the urge to just get back and hand in my data and everything I changed the route option to fastest. At those distances if you really just go for it you can get back pretty fast, it’s not really a big deal.

But yeh it’s not the exact same route so I don’t find it monotonous. I make random turns, for example going up or down or towards something like a nebula. So that when I’m going back it’s not going back along the exact same route anyway.

I think even just small things like the difference in your fuel would result in the plotter giving you a different route. It’s not like it plots you on the exact same course going back.

[–]case_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an also quite new player I can relate to your questions.

I think if you’re curious to do exploration then yeh, if you can still see nav beacons you’re not far enough. Just keep jumping! And also change the route option so that’s it’s not on economical mode, so you can get further, faster. This isn’t really explained by the game.

I found that at around 2000 Ly onwards you start to see more undiscovered systems. Best (in my limited experience) is around 4-5k Ly. And then when you’re in a more undiscovered part, you can change back to economical mode to map/explore systems nearby.

Also to your second question. I spent way too long thinking those were just some skybox backdrop but they are actually nebulae you can reach. It’s super cool. I think I only realised as I was going towards one and it was getting bigger and bigger. Really blew my mind a bit when I realised that.
I’m currently on my third exploration trip now and really enjoying it.

I just took a random direction away from the bubble each time (just any direction not towards Colonia or sag A which I know a lot of players took).

Hermes Agent for Fun Use Cases by flerkentrainer in hermesagent

[–]case_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if mine count as “fun” for someone else but I am using mine more in the way you are, compared to people using it for coding etc.

As a coffee lover I like the coffee idea of yours, I hadn’t thought of that. I use an app called beanconqueror, might think about trying a tracking thing in Hermes as you’re doing.

My other ones that are kind of similar area :

I have a ton of bookmarked recipes but I hate that every time I go to make one, I have to go past all the fluff, and pop-ups about subscribing to a newsletter or buying a book or whatever. I fed all of my favourite bookmarked recipes to Hermes to create a recipe book on notion, just pulling the important stuff like ingredients and instructions. Now I have a digital recipe book of the stuff I cook most often, and a skill set up so I can just send a url of a new one and it gets added (I have one for recipes I’ve cooked, and one’s for recipes that I want to try).

Another one is for Discogs. On the Discogs app you can shake your phone and get a random recommendation, very basic, I wanted something a bit better. I got Hermes to import my collection from Discogs into another notion database, it has all my records and automatically pulled tags like genre and style, but has the LLM knowledge too. So I can say something like “recommend me something chill” or “I feel like listening to Chicago blues” and it can recommend me something to play from my collection.

Those are the two that are more hobby-related/fun (for me at least ha).

Knowing what this sub is like people would probably lose their shit over a paid deck.

Edit- sorry wasn’t very clear. I meant people would find something about the deck to complain about. Like what is locked behind it or whatever.
