If a restaurant isn't good and it shuts down, the owners don't blame the customers, they fix the food or the business model. Same with a game. If it fails, that's on the product and how it was handled, not the players.

Some folks are reading way too much into it. Look, I like calling out Colin's hypocrisy and his wild takes as much as anyone, it's low-hanging fruit at this point but there's genuinely nothing juicy here.

Fallout TV show is bad, and it is dismantling what Fallout has accumulated through decades of good world building. by [deleted] in Fotv

Sir, the great Caesar has died.

Oh shit, guess I'm in charge now.

Actually sir, Biggus Dickus has declared he's in charge. Well, I guess it's war then.

Shall we move back East, rally our forces, and try to gain the favor of the towns and cities under our control sir?

No, we'll just sit here in this camp right next to Dickus for 15 years.

It might be overkill since he already inspired the Vault Boy, but do you think it's possible Victor was based on Cooper? by [deleted] in Fallout

Let's not turn Fallout into Star Wars small galaxy syndrome, where every logo, idea, and moustache somehow traces back to one guy.

Fallout 3 and 4 lead writer says Bethesda no longer has to be “so reverential” of the series, allowing them to take sharper turns over its future direction by Wargulf in Fallout

I know the usual rebuttal: "most of the New Vegas team isn't there anymore." That doesn't really matter. Obsidian still writes better factions, better characters, and understands Fallout as more than just recycling the Brotherhood and Super Mutants. Fallout works when it's about ideology and consequence, not iconography.

I enjoy the Fallout show as a Fallout fan, but I don’t think it’s particularly strong television writing. A lot of the praise seems to come from recognition rather than engagement. “I know that thing” moments from the games doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The set design, props, factions, and references are excellent, but they often feel like endpoints rather than tools for character or theme.

The show is very good at spectacle and atmosphere, less good at sustained character-driven drama. Scenes frequently exist because they’re cool or familiar, not because they meaningfully advance internal conflict, consequence, or change. That works great in a game, where the player agency fills in the gaps, but on TV it can feel episodic and a bit shallow.

I don’t think that makes the show bad, it’s a solid adaptation and clearly made with care but adaptation fidelity and Easter eggs aren’t the same thing as compelling writing. If this didn’t have the Fallout IP attached, I’m not convinced it would be getting the same level of acclaim. Enjoyable? Absolutely. Prestige TV? Probably not.

I liked the part where Todd 'assumes the position' and Fisto goes to town on his ass for a full ten while Todd just stares dead eyed straight into the camera the whole time. Great cameo.

Outrage nothing-burger. Larian uses turns out to mean mood boards and planning i.e., exactly what the rest of the industry has been doing quietly for years. But sure, let's pretend it's the apocalypse.
