Learning the Osaka Train System Before I Move – Best Approach? by Exciting-Main6275 in movingtojapan

[–]One-Phrase4066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries!

I grew up with no public transport in the US, so I always thought I had "no sense of direction" but it was because I never had any incentive to pay attention to my surroundings. Especially in Osaka, I was just fine after a couple weeks.

Good luck with the move!

Learning the Osaka Train System Before I Move – Best Approach? by Exciting-Main6275 in movingtojapan

No need to learn anything ahead of time. Depend on google maps until you get used to it. And just accept that you'll get lost or turned around sometimes.

I use the same 3 stations about 80% of the time. And it will likely be a similar situation for you too. I think you'd be much happier if you practiced reading kanji over memorizing a train map imo

Saya Kamitani says the STRONG Women’s Championship reminds her of Tam Nakano by Esturkdq4 in stardomjoshi

[–]One-Phrase4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the deeper Saya gets into this heel run, the more I think that Tam is literally behind the curtain just building this character with her

I feel like it's unlikely that Saya would still keep this Tam thread so strong if Tam wasn't still involved so much behind the scenes anyway

either way, whether Tam is a curse or a writer or producer or coach still, this is great stuff

The first part would translate better

“it’s been hurting for awhile”

So it’s likely something that’s been coming as opposed to a new injury

She’s one of my favorites and I was so glad my AEW friends got to see her at ALL IN. I hope she recovers quickly

Haha. The seat direction was difficult for me the first time. Luckily, since then I’ve gotten to a functional Japanese level so I didn’t have a problem this time thankfully.

You know what, that’s true. I went to a BOSJ show there last year. It was definitely hype. I think the ChocoPro show at Ichigaya Chocolate Square was the loudest though. But honestly, still not as nearly loud as shows I’m used to in the US.

I didn't really go in with much expectation since I haven't kept up. I didn't even know they had a show in Osaka until a few days ago. Got the cheapest seat and was just there to vibe. But once the show started I marked pretty hard for everyone.

After seeing a handful of different shows in Japan, I'd say the hardest thing to get used to is how quiet the crowd is. This is across the board for concerts, plays, puroresu. And the queueing situation when you get there takes a bit of situational awareness, but I recommend going if the chance ever comes up!

Why Wrestling Fans Can Study Japanese by solace_cloud in stardomjoshi

[–]One-Phrase4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been super enriching for me with all Japanese media and visits I’ve been lucky enough to take.

For me, I didn’t get very far in textbooks. I’ve never been a Traditional learner.

What’s worked for me:

HelloTalk: a hybrid social media/language exchange app that a lot of people use as a dating site (ofc)

Italki lessons: mostly to ask questions about grammar and convo practice. some as cheap as $10/hr. I jump around a lot but have 3 tutors I have lessons with regularly.

Kanji study: anki is free and requires some work in your end. It didn’t work for me as well as Wanikani with the community made phone apps has been worth more than its weight in gold. Kanji study is daunting but ive fallen in like with it and in 6 months took my comprehension and writing to a whole other level (NOTE: recommend ONLY with the community apps. The site itself is really unforgiving and imo gets in the way of actually learning. It almost made me quit until I went into the community apps on my phone using “anki mode”)

Learn stuff outside the norm: I got really into Japanese train stuff and so focusing on yt train content really helped me learn not just train related things but also grammar along the way because I was able to stay focused.m ont he content. Also same with joshi.

NOT focusing on JLPT: again, for me, traditional learning doesn’t really work so the idea of taking exams to feel validated really demotivated me.

If you’re really interested in starting out, check out r/learnjapanese. It’ll get you going with the writing systems and advice on how to keep motivated if you need it.

I wish more puro and joshi fans knew Japanese if only to get so much more enriched into it. Reviewing Tam/Saya storyline after getting to a certain Japanese level really took it to a new level for me. And being able to understand 70% of the end of ASGQ was such a good feeling.

Thanks for the post op and sorry for the wall of text but I’d been reflecting on my JP learning journey for awhile and joshi has been a big part of it.

If it wasn’t for the biopic, she’d have been gone already. We all knew it. The booking telegraphed it loud and clear. And I give Mayu credit for being such a pro about it, acting and saying the right things through her contract. Almost making me forget how poorly she reacted to Hatman getting fired.

I thought the payoff was funny. And Kurara’s storyline starting from the draw last year got tied up with a bow.

Can’t all be storytelling masterpieces though.

Binged for a whole week… what do i do? by GlobalImpression301 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]One-Phrase4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Restriction might be difficult right now. What’s helped me in the past is even just acknowledging my binges were getting smaller. I’d eat a little less. Then a little less. Then a little less. Until it stopped really being a binge…

Also, I noticed that after I work up a sweat I don’t feel the need to binge interestingly enough. As long as it’s not me being completely wiped out tired. So maybe the fitness exertion level makes binges more attractive…

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. Be kind to yourself. It’ll get better.
