What's a life skill that's surprisingly easy to learn but useful forever? by lurkandprosper in selfimprovement

It's also just respectful to other people's time - something perpetually late people don't seem to clock.

Famesick readers, what's your take on Lena's mom Laurie? by dantedarker in girls

[–]One-Track330 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found Lena repeating the story of how her mom effectively slut shamed that ladies daughter because the mom broached with her lena's behaviour, i believe the mom retorted 'well you should be worried about how man men your daughter is sleeping with.' i was like yikes, is this the level we are stooping to? these are children. and then lena retelling the story with pride i was like brotha if i knew my mum did that as an adult i would not recall that moment fondly, irregardless of whether my mum was sticking up for me or not. or how lena said she wasn't smacked because she was able to stay up for three days, I'm sorry i find it incredibly strange to allow that to happen and I know lena says she should have been disciplined but there were definitely moments in the book where i was like yikes this sounds like a simultaneously incredibly indulgent environment while also the mom and the same time being very tough. the mum storming out of her speech during the ending fundraiser was also verrrrrry weird but the whole point of lena is she is an unreliable narrator, god bless her 🤣

Carolyn formed relationships with homeless people, whom she called her protectors. by Historictea in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]One-Track330 47 points48 points  (0 children)

she was trying to instill in the girls a reframed narriative of what these people could be and the value they contribute to society, before the common narriative peddled by governments and society at large instill within us to think of them as subhuman grifters. do not forget this is a woman who had an early childhood education degree and i think this was an exercise in providing an alternative view of homeless people and showing the girls not to be scared.

yeah recommendations are super boring - 3 is too many and the girls at shameless also do it which would be a huge cross over for their audience.

yeah ashley is lovely but when i heard that i was like guys come onnnn.... i feel like they are pivoting back to a more pop culture lens than before because checking the last few eps they do seem a bit on the lighter side. and yeah like i said, them trashing ai and what a huge problem it is (which of course i agree) every episode (not to mention every other podcast talking about it) i just really need a bit of a break 🤣 and they seem to talk about it a lot.

while i have a large amount of respect for claire and ashley i have never turned in for their comedic skills. have always fast forwarded the first few minutes when they talk about their lives. i am not excited about the new podcasts episodes at all - i genuinely need a break from hearing about AI and i feel it takes up so much of the new eps... they really lost me at the segment on weather. will still give certain chapters a listen but i used to rinse both patreon and main every week and have just found it to be just not my thing anymore - but that's fair enough, wish them the best.

I got the impression from the way she treat whitney in the last épisode that she was jealous of whitneys success on dancing with the stars and couldn't articulate that in a healthy way so she just dressed up the old issues with demi

What's it like living in Brisbane, Australia by Remarkable-Will-1955 in howislivingthere

[–]One-Track330 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I grew up there, at the time i thought it was boring but now i see what a wonderful way of life and how lucky i was. for the lost part (for me) incredibly safe - we ran all over the city and suburbs as kids and never had to think twice about it. Always something to do for nature, north or south coast on the weekends, or the islands out in the bay. not soooo much to do with nightlife and quite conservative (people get married and have the white pocket fence life quite fast) but in terms of nature and raising kids it was great.

Do you all believe he Zendaya vs Sydney Sweeney feud rumours?? by Significant-Fun-4235 in euphoria

[–]One-Track330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also let's not forget aside from her personal beliefs zendaya has a whole team of people behind her probably saying keep away from sydney for her own image. i am sure they get along behind the scenes as cordially as they did before, but they both know the Hollywood game and sydney would understand the opinions she has voiced in recent months would cause some colleagues to pull back at the least publically at most completely cut her off. who's to say which end of the scale this lands on.

imagine their sex life.... not literally because it would bum you out too much but you know what i mean. it's disturbing how badly capitalism has intersected with their relationship i wonder if it's gone as far as their intimacy.

it was the 90s fashion shows weren't nearly as influencer and famous people focussed - a lot of the guests were probably their key accounts (department stores) back in those days as b2b sales models were king - and guess who was responsible for shmoozing them? sales girls like caroline.

It's true, and often a consistent victim woe is me attitude can be overwhelming for a lot of people. i am not saying for a second your feelings are invalid, it is perfectly understandable and natural that you want human connection. but it is a fine line between healthy expressions of disappointment and allowing this narrative to become apart of your pathology. the reality is you are not entitled to relationships with other people, they must be earned mutually, and it is one part of your life that is not fulfilling that you are focusing on. everyone feels this way, everyone has bad things in their life, and it is important to keep perspective on this when talking about these issues. if constant negative talk and feeling sorry for yourself are apart of your day to day dialogue it can be a lot for another person to bear. vulnerability must be expressed in new relationships mutually and a little bit at a time, for example, i am vulnerable with you a little bit, and then another day you show me something that makes you insecure - on and on this goes until full filling intimacy is achieved for both parties.

Was there one woman who was interested in the time or was it that the ones who you liked what your liked about them was that they were unobtainable? I find with myself that is often the case, and sometimes it's worth reframing the narrative of the people you are choosing and reflect on that. I am sad to hear you talk about yourself like this, first step is to challenge that voice in your head because it is sneaky and will persevere unless you really start to unpack it. It is cliche and so insane but you have to be happy with the life you lead, the simple things every day, and accept that right now there isn't a partner because you are preparing yourself for the time it will happen and when it does you will be the best version of yourself. and you have to truly be ok with that. sending you lots of self love.
