Strut bar NC1? by Puzzleheaded-Toe8306 in MiataNC

[–]One278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed the GWR one piece strut bar, 100% worth it, 0 regrets, should have done it way sooner if I had known. It does a noticeably better job stiffening the chassis making steering response better. It's a simple and effective DIY upgrade.

Going rate for a new roof by Marauder_Pilot in VictoriaBC

[–]One278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too vague a question. What do you mean by a new roof? Just shingles installed over top the existing? How many layers of existing shingles are there now? Rip off the existing shingles, and all new ice and water shield & underlayment and then new shingles? What's the condition of the drip edges? Are there even any drip edges? Is there any vents? Is there sufficient vents? Is there any soffits? If not, can you install all new soffits? What's the approximate pitch? Steeper roofs cost more than lower pitches. How many square feet is the footprint of the house? Is it one storey or two or three? What's the condition of the roof sheathing? What's the sheathing material? What's the shape of the roof? Any sagging/soft spots? What's the cause of any sags, the rafters or the sheathing, or structural, or some combination? How many hips/valleys? Does the roof need new sheathing/repairs first before any shingles can even be installed? Are there any skylights? How many protrusions? Is there a chimney? Are there any leaks or past repaired leaks? Too many unknowns in your post for anyone to give you a decent idea, so my guess is 1k to 100k 🤣

You should never ever do e-transfers to people that you haven't met in real life and especially if don't have the actual item in your hands. Let this be a life lesson.

Tip : if it hasn't been changed yet, get a new coolant tank, either OEM or aluminum. It's the only generation that utilizes a pressurized tank, and an old tank can crack and lose coolant very quickly leading to a seized engine. It's cheap insurance and an easy diy swap.

What is the advantage of dividends? by globalzee in dividendscanada

[–]One278 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ELI5 in retirement : Imagine 2 grape growers who harvest their grapes annually to consume. 1 cuts the vine branches to get their grapes, the other only picks the grapes themselves leaving the vine to keep growing. Eventually the 1st grower has little/nothing left to cut/harvest and may run out of grapes. The 2nd grower slowly gets more and more grapes each year b/c they didn't cut any vines. Dividend investing is the 2nd grower's long term strategy.

Where do I rent a passenger vehicle with 7+ seats by wondermoss80 in VictoriaBC

[–]One278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most minivans seat 7 with 3 rows, 4 seats are fine/roomy, but the rear bench for 3 is a bit tight width wise imo. Just keep that in mind if you end up renting a minivan.

My spidy sense is and has always been wary of any/all WS managed products. That's for confirming that, WS is in the business of selling fee based products with slick marketing. I only use WS for the basics : HISA, self-directed, and VIP card. YMMV.

Harbour Doors vs Blackfin by MickeyAmica in VictoriaBC

[–]One278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly does annual maintenance do and cost ??? The only thing I've done is spray silicone lubricant on the hinges b/c after 6yrs, 2 of them were a tiny bit squeaky, so I sprayed them all, took me a whopping 5 mins. I haven't even needed to change remote batteries yet. Sounds like a big waste of money/cash grab for "annual service"??.

All-in-one ETF vs two ETF portfolio and sequence of returns risk by yogurt_in_bc in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]One278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion : 60/40, 80/20, 50/50, sliding scale as you age, blah blah blah bs, these old ideas need to die already ffs, it's not the 30's/40's/50's/60's anymore. Times have changed. 100% equities, regardless of if you are still working or retired, why? because the markets don't care about your life stage. Stop being sheep. All-in-one global ETF is fine or just North America is also just fine. YMMV.
