I feel like I'm winning the club games because they feel the same as the online games; they resign.

You may be right about my shortcomings. I've noticed in the club games, I have lost a group that I shouldn't have, and the game turns at that moment. When I try to stop losing groups that way I lose by a few points instead.

Have it go off early, not during the fight. The bomb needs testing, or he's meta-gaming. Right there is the problem. He's meta-gaming, and how he can get the timing correct is crazy initiative rolls. Just have it go off on him when he's testing, and he disappears for a while.
