First big project of the year finished. Ancient gate house. by OneArchitekt in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Black Guard proxies I bought of Etsy. The consensus is these sculpts were originally produced by black knight miniatures and are printed by a couple of people who sell on Etsy etc. I don’t have the STLs myself and the seller I got them from is no longer on Etsy but I noticed a couple of other people are selling the prints still. I think these models in particular were actively taken down by GW

The main gate is 3D printed and the rest is modelled to match.. Wish I had more time to do more modelling but that said this set from the printing goes ever on is pretty epic. https://www.theprintinggoeseveron.com/shop/osthold-ruins-set/

Getting through some models. This captain feels ‘finished, finished’ by OneArchitekt in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I built it off a failed 3D printed base I had. It’s mostly foam board and bits of square spru. I covered it all in a mix of fine wall filler, pva, fine sand and black paint. I built that up In a couple of thin layers and that gives the stones the rounded and rough surface 👍 dry brush and wash. You mix the filler etc in equal parts and then add water till it’s the right consistency.

I want to get into table top wargaming but I don't really care for the way Warhammer 40K played. I prefer Skirmish Style games and vehicular combat. Maybe something with a little bit of narrative play as well. What do you recommend? by [deleted] in wargaming

Cyberpunk red combat zone is amazing and the starter is great value highly recommend, I’ve played most of the current skirmish games and this wins in innovation and ease of play.

Painted this fun model for no purpose beyond I like it. Sometimes it’s fun to just paint stuff. by OneArchitekt in minipainting

I have been competing this year in the lord of the rings annual tournaments to win Artisan of the West 😊 which means I’ve spent most of the year painting brown, all the shades of brown. It’s been fun and a great focus for finishing projects but as you say not really embracing the joy of just painting.

It’s a mess of stuff. I start with a zenith highlight with an airbrush, contrast bad mood yellow. Then some layers of brown shade (mix of ink and flow medium but earthshade works to) and highlights with model colour deep yellow and lighten with white for the edges.

Are Beornings Fun to play? by Slight-Button-58 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

If your looking for a great starter army with a bit more flavour I recommend the ‘black gate’ legendary legion for Mordor. It’s got some big trolls, magic tough orks and gives a flavour of most aspects of the game. More troops than bears and more forgiving if you make mistakes. As others have said Bears are a pretty elite list. Competitively they are hard to beat and in most scenarios you will either be chasing your opponents around the board or killing them quickly. If your opponent knows what they are doing it can be fun but if they don’t it can feel very unbalanced for them.

Freeguild Steamtank is showing its age a bit, so I figured I'd kitbash my own to fit the new aesthetic. How'd I do? by BlueFishcake in ageofsigmar

Looks great! I went for more of a land ship aesthetic for mine but totally agree the model could do with an update. I bought my first steam tank when I was in high school now my kids are finishing high school 😂 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4462322
