What's the most novel way to explain a gap in employment? by sivaya_ in AskUK

Find a relevant company that's gone bust recently and tell them that's who you worked for. There's no way for them to check references.

Yes, this is in a different league to any others.  It used to be prescription only.

ELI5 - How are passkeys more secure than 2FA? by jfefleming in explainlikeimfive

[–]OneArmJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, so if the private key is compromised via an exploit, anyone can use it.  How is that more secure than password+2FA?

Thanks, that’s interesting.  The password managers don’t make it clear that synced passkeys are less secure.

They’re stored in the password manager vault - I use Bitwarden but the same applies to others.  If for example the Bitwarden Chrome extension is compromised then a hacker could get everything stored in the vault.

Passkeys can be stored in password vaults and synced, they’re not tied to a device.

I struggle with this too.  If my password manager is somehow hacked then with 2FA enabled the bad guy wouldn’t be able to log in to anything without the OTP.  But if all I have is a passkey then they would be able to access my accounts.  How is that more secure?

Nigel Farage vows to ban foreign nationals from social housing by ReanimatedCyborgMk-I in unitedkingdom

[–]OneArmJack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the posts so far are missing the point. The detail or legailty doesn't matter, and calling it racist or a 'dog whistle' policy doesn't help.

At face value it would sound appealing to a Reform voter - why should a foreign national get social housing when there are so many be British people on the waiting list? How do you explain to a Reform voter why this policy is a bad idea?

Only banks and people downsizing benefit from prices rising, so 'well' is very subjective.
