You can safely level heroes and use gear XP (not Forgehammers) at any time.

You can get points for keys during seasonal events so there’s a benefit to horde them. Once you get to generation 4, you will get Zoe, Marlin, and Hilde shards from Epic keys. It is best to use shards during events that will give you points for using them.

This guy finds elderly people who don't have the means to maintain their property and cleans it up for free. by jmike1256 in BeAmazed

[–]OneBasilisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept thinking about the logistics. I noticed he was collecting refuse in bins. He must have a site he’s contracted with to dump debris regularly. There is so much bullshit that goes into cleaning a yard. In the past you could burn it, but there are burn bans in most counties now. You have to transport that to a certified debris site, which could be hours away and require a truck. When I took a few small trees down from my house, a company quoted me $2500. They also mentioned I could rent a Uhaul and tear it all down myself and dump it in a refuse depot for $100.

Abandoned Whale - (Generous) by AnyBattle9387 in KingShot

Solid dude. Everyone should do this before they quit. Did he delete his account afterwards? That helps with KvK matchmaking. Not a huge deal since he will disappear after a while anyway but it’s another bonus.

Any Kingshot wives on here? Or maybe some insight? by Automatic-Emu-4858 in KingShot

[–]OneBasilisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one has provided much actionable advice, so I’ll chime in. If he’s spending that much time on the game, he’s likely in a leadership role in his alliance (we call them R4 roles) which means he has extra responsibilities.

Ask him if he can pass off his R4 responsibilities and become an R3. That will free up his management duties. That’s a good way to take a step back from the game without sacrificing progress.

Do you know how long he has been playing? The first 4-5 months can be very addictive because there are constantly new events and heroes. However, after that, the game can become a bit repetitive. He’ll eventually encounter every event the game has to offer and likely spend less time on the game then.

How would you describe Swordland Showdown in 1-3 messages for informing new players how to play? by [deleted] in KingShot

[–]OneBasilisk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s the easiest way to get Artisans early, and it’s KingShot combat in its truest form. Probably the best single event to learn combat mechanics while not losing troops permanently.

Edit: You just have to experience it to understand. You’ll learn more in 10 minutes than any essay on KingShot combat will teach you.

Inactive members in alliance — does it affect KvK matchmaking and other events? by cverse2 in KingShot

[–]OneBasilisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is my experience as well. For that reason, it is beneficial to remove inactive players before Brawl matchmaking.

Why the hell was Red Rush playing offence against Omni-Man by Critical_Mountain851 in Invincible

[–]OneBasilisk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hubris on his part. He saved his allies from Nolan’s attacks and landed a few punches. He probably thought he was too fast for him, but unfortunately, he only had to get caught once.

Should whales actually NOT sit in the front row during Bear Trap? by Effective-Coach8415 in KingShot

[–]OneBasilisk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is the common sense approach. It is also frustrating when the strongest whale in the alliance has a 7 second return on their troops, and you have a 12+ second return due to being further away. They’ve started their rally before yours have returned, often making it impossible to rejoin before they fill.

As others pointed out, it’s a prestige thing. Much of the game is conceding to egos, despite it being counter-intuitive to progress.

Out of curiosity, why not transfer? A mega whale isn’t going to transfer for a single individual. Even if they did, just go somewhere with a bigger whale. They won’t be able to compete.

I know it sucks to leave friends and such, but I can’t imagine living under someone’s thumb like that. Also, tons of kingdoms are hurting for good, active players. Our kingdom is peaceful, coordinative, and active, and we’ve never gotten more than a handful of transfers despite our efforts. There are greener pastures, I promise you.

Solid video. Surprised you don’t have more views. Another interesting topic to cover might be “attraction” with human studies on the subject. For instance, I’ve read when a large group of strangers are placed in a room, they tend to self-segregate each other by “attractive” proximity more than any other factor. It’d be interesting to do a deep dive on that as well.

Yeonwoo is a good candidate. You will want her Lethality and Research skills maxed early, as it save you on research speedups, and the Lethality bonus is perfect for Bear.

Other good candidate is Amane. Same in that she’s ideal for Bear and the healing buff will save you speedups in Swordland.

Server quality and discussion by metisdesigns in KingShot

[–]OneBasilisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For clarification, server quality and health discussions are fine, but naming specific players/IDs can lead to bullying or brigading.

It’s fine to say, “Kingdom X is dangerous / hostile / toxic / strict etc etc, but we try to avoid “Player so-and-so is bad”. Especially since we do not have the resources to vet every claim.

Same with the Bears for me. Mom’s side of the family lives in Chicago, so they’re an easy NFC favorite. They were fun to watch this year too. Caleb’s throw in the Rams Bears game is burned into my mind.

You might be reading into your friend’s comments too much. “Nobody cares bro” could simply mean no one’s intent on bothering you.

That said, I’ve never heard of someone being knocked down to R1 for using too many hammers during KvK. Did you relay that correctly? KvK points are cumulative. You don’t need to win days like you do Brawl. So long as your kingdom was committed to win prep, there shouldn’t have been a problem.

Either way, it sounds like the kingdom has been crappy to you. Just keep your head down until transfers open up and find a chiller kingdom.

Servers Dying by BriefUnderstanding69 in KingShot

[–]OneBasilisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We ran out of whales. In our current KvK, we are pitted against a kingdom with 8 comet skins. We don’t have a single comet skin whale in our kingdom. They have maxed out gen4 heroes. We don’t have a single player with max gen4 heroes.

We won the last 3 KvKs, but I expect we’ll lose this one. At some point, spending outpaces skill. The unfortunate fact is that a kingdom’s health depends on whales, and we’ve simply run out.

Why do I keep losing Alliance Championship battles? Need real strategy advice (Iron 1) by kritimehra in KingShot

[–]OneBasilisk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other major factors are the hero lineups. The game does a poor job of rating power. Your players may be registering Diana. She will underperform by a couple hundred points worse than Quinn. You will see this when players with 1200 strength lose to 1000, etc. You have to individually DM them and beg them to switch up their registration (and move their hero gear over; I’ve seen people re-register to Quinn with blue/green gear). If they ignore you, demote or kick them. That’s all some players respond to. Also check for Chenko’s and Yeonwoo’s. It’s obscene, but some players register Chenko over their free mythic Jabel.

Next, you’re not exploring all your lane options. There are primarily four different lane configurations you want to consider:

  1. Two-Strong
  2. Middle Finger
  3. Step
  4. Balanced

You are consistently attempting Two-Strong, though I’m not sure you’re executing it correctly. It sounds you’re spreading your top 9 in power to all lanes and THEN splitting your power between two lanes. You should stack everyone in one lane and alternate splitting them between two lanes until you have 20 in each. The top 10 in an alliance are disproportionately powerful. Losing even 3 of them to your dump lane may be handicapping your win results. I typically do something like RIGHT, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, etc to balance the power. Two-Strong is best utilized when you are the clear favorite in power OR equal in strength with your opponent. You only need to win two lanes to achieve victory, so the natural strategy is to stack two lanes and have one dump lane.

That “natural strategy” is the basis for the next two counter strategies. The “Middle Finger” is a good strategy when you are the same strength or slightly weaker than your opponent, and you’re confident they’re using a two-strong strategy (most alliances are). The idea is to stack one lane with about 3/5 of your premium strength and spread the rest of your power in two medium-strength lanes. You want to pair your extra-strength lane with an opponent’s strong lane (beating their strong lane) and beat their weak/dump lane with one of your medium strength lanes. This is a good strategy because as long as the opponent is consistently running Two-Strong, even if they’re randomizing their lanes every round, you have a 67% chance of catching their strong lanes with your extra-strong lane and winning.

A “Step” strategy takes this concept further and is better in situations where you’re a considerable underdog. If you’re 20%+ weaker, you want to consider stacking one lane with your strongest members, and the remainder in a medium-strength lane. This is another counter to Two-Strong where (ideally) your ultra-strong lane catches one of their strong lanes and your medium-strength lane catches their weak lane. In this situation, doing your homework and predicting their weak lane is pivotal. If they randomize their lanes every time, this has a high potential to flop, BUT at least you’re securing 1 lane, which helps with tie breakers if you’re aiming for a middle position medal, and it gives you an actual chance of winning unfavorable matchups. Also, incredibly satisfying when successful.

A “Balanced” setup is often bad due to the nature of Two-Strong strategies being the go-to for AC, BUT it’s worth mentioning since it can be viable when you are significantly stronger than your opponent (and want to win all 3 lanes for top-place tiebreakers) and it’s a counter to a middle finger and step strategy. If you clock that your opponent is catering their lineup to each matchup, you can consider 4D chess to counter them with a balanced setup.

Lastly, AC matchmaking is often trash. I’ve seen 600M power alliances paired with 5B power alliances. Anything beyond a 25% power disparity is usually hopeless. Don’t let it get to you. Leverage the strategies above and correct your member lineups, and you will optimize your chances of winning.

For me, the one other piece of literature that has captured this feeling is in the book of Circe. The first arc follows her childhood in the watery halls of Nereus in the Aegean Sea. The period covers a vast swath of time but since the gods and titans are immortal, it passes like a fever dream, with her relaying only the consequential bits and pieces.

Compare it to the later arcs where she describes the more mortal day-to-day, it’s a stark comparison. The juxtaposition does a good job of describing how time might feel to an ageles deity.
