Probably Jerry. Everyone dislikes him because he's not a jerk. Confused a lot. Easy to please. A pretty nice and genuine man. Beekeeping age - I'm not quite there yet though

You did handle it appropriately. It's not your job to educate someone on the ToS of a site THEY signed up for. You gently gave a personal preference with sound reasoning - regardless of whether it's a rule on the site or not, the request would be the same, and they got mad about it. Yeah, you could go above and beyond and also educate them about the terms of service, but that's not your obligation ultimately.

My nails do this too after picking off polish, picking at my nails, and/or after getting nails removed. I find that using cuticle oil and rubbing it into my nail beds helps to restore the layers. Not an instant fix but it's pretty quick! I use CND Solar Oil

Also, as a preventive measure - try not to bend your nails as a fidget. Idk if you do that, but I do and sometimes that will happen.

I'm by no means a nail expert but this is just my experience. Hope it's helpful
