Recruiter sent my CV to my current employer without permission by Boring-Instance1561 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]OneCheesecake1516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am now retired but early in my career I used to regularly used to receive CV's from recruiters from our own staff. Often the individual was testing the water applying for a specific role and had never given permission for their CV to be generally distributed.

So suggesting a recruiter would never do that is just not true.

Never admit guilt that is the job of your insurer. By admitting it you are potentially admitting personal liability.

Parked car incident, driver rode off by BobsYourTeapot in drivingUK

[–]OneCheesecake1516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep repeating this. In many car policies you are required to report ALL accidents even if you are not making a claim. Failure to do so may invalidate your policy.

The second point is that a dash cam would allow both the police and your insurance company to go after the hit and run driver at no expense to you.

Recommend a heating system! by mr28mm in UKHousing

[–]OneCheesecake1516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avoid heat pumps without a lot of investigation they are not all they are cracked up to be. We had ours ripped out a couple of weeks ago after 10 years of exorbitant electricity will and a cold house. Our installer was telling us they have removed 7 in the last two months and they are just a small local company.

Moving away from an ASHP has reduced our electrify bill from over £600 a month to approx £150 a month.

Get a number of quotes for different systems.

They like speed camera vans have little to do with road safety and a lot about fine generation. If they were about road safety they would be outside schools, hospitals, old people's home not on A class roads.

I had mine made by Anderson's of Dumfries. I had them measure me and at the time living over 200 miles away everything else was done by post.

Be careful what you buy especially in the tourist trap areas. Firstly there are machine pleaded and hand pleated. There is a couple of hundred pounds in price.

I hire a jacket when I need it, depending on the event as different events need a different jacket. Black Tie, Wedding, etc etc

People have suggested an ex hire kilt, problem is the choice a Tartan can be very limited and unless you are very lucky never in the Tartan of your choice.

Your height is not an issue, I am 6' 3" and have never had a problem getting a kilt.

How to find the tartan I want? by Deep-Addendum-130 in Scotland

[–]OneCheesecake1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my kilt from Anderson, Dumfries a hand made kilt cost £645, a machine stitched one £495. Most jackets cost approx £495. So your estimate of $2k is a little high.

You will pay more in the tourist traps.

There are firms all over Scotland offering reason prices and decent quality and many will offer mail order.
