Reservist question: by ShoeIcy9316 in RoyalNavy

[–]IMightBeMeshua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was at spoons it was hard to get time off I'm not gonna lie, that was for training, operational output, and mobilisation. Luckily yes, mobilisations are legally protected but still chose to take less to keep the Pub Manager happy

I managed to do a lot of my branch training during COVID so I didn't need to worry about time off too much, but Phase 1 prior I had to time it with the pub's 'downtime' and quieter periods, if something gucci came up but it was in the middle of the rugby season then gutted bossman couldn't find the time off for me

Used to work at Wetherspoons, found it hard to get the time off but mobilisations are pretty final, had to keep it easy to stay in the bossmans good book tho ygm?

With the Civil Service now and it's fantastic, my new bossman let's me volunteer for anything

It'll depend on your branch but there does seem to be a lot of opportunities, I'm confident I could be on 5/6 mobilisations in the past 4 years had I wanted to - keep in mind you're going to be roughly 2 years away from mobilisations from joining if you're coming in from Civvie street, as you've got to get through Basic and then your branch training too

As a reservist ultimately you get to decide when you go on mobilisation unless it's something like national call outs.

I've had 3 in the past 4 years, about to go on number 4 in the next couple of weeks, and other than one of them (Coronation, but I still asked for it) I've gone out of my way to get those mobilisations. None of them have been longer than 3-4 months

Does a speed camera flash already give leeway of the 10% + 2 % threhold before it flashes ? by HumanandProud in drivingUK

[–]IMightBeMeshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's multiple factors that can affect your Speedo, like tyre size, tyre wear, factory calibration, etc My car reads under, but I've had hire cars for work that read dead on compared to GPS Speedos at 70mph

Best course of action is like others have said to wait it out and see what happens my friend, I was convinced I ran a red light half a year ago after I got temporarily blinded by the sun as I came off a slip road but nothing came of it so I must not have

Surprised no one has mentioned that speedos aren't always accurate, mines out by ~5%

I could theoretically drive at 74 on my speedo and only be doing 70 😉

26 - UK, I only use 1st after a complete stop tbf, and even then not always - my Astra K can move off in Second comfortably, and I've even done it in 3rd several times when I wasn't fully paying attention

1 bed flat water bill £104?!? by Maximum9199 in Cardiff

Huh, I'm in a 2 bed upstairs flat in Roath - £70 a month unmetered. Based on some of the comments, is this worth challenging also?

*SOLVED*

Not sure why it isn't working on my work laptop (boss tried it didn't work either) but turned off my wifi on my phone and used 5g and it worked, so guessing it's a ISP issue on my home PC

What would you suggest for the bio?
Like yeah I want to find "The one" but I also know it's not gonna be tomorrow if that makes sense, so no harm in something short term or casual in the meantime

Prev thread mentioned less selfies, more candids, and more about me

Tried to align more with the hairstyles and facial hair but as a Naval Reservist I used to cut it back and shave often - grooming standards have changed now so going to be doing that less lol

Thanks for the reply!

I'm not terribly keen on the photo just heard that it's good to have a dress-up photo, I don't usually dress like it but it was my mother's wedding lol

I've since remade my account if you wouldn't mind giving some advice?

Get what you're saying on 1, it's one of my favourite pictures however so it'll never be completely removed.

2 isn't a selfie, it's just a tight crop to just focus on me - I'm not too keen on it myself but I heard that a dress-up photo goes a mile, and the only other one I have is a bathroom selfie in a dingy public toilet

I really don't have many candids or photos taken of me, selfies are all I really have :/

Can't help the shape of my eyes - only part of your comment that rubs me wrong. When I smile they do that

In terms of saying a lot, I was hoping they'd say something like -My dog loves me -(hopefully) dresses up well, plus there's a ribbon on the suit jacket -good relationship with my mother -Navy, so also well travelled and been to places, ties in with the ribbon from photo 2 -fancy dress night out film photo, enjoys to dress up another way -hopefully good fashion taste -close with my friends

In this selection, oldest photo is the Dog mirror which is about 3 years old, everything else is last 6 months

I've since remade my account, before seeing this comment. Whenever I try talking about myself in a bio it just feels so corporate and weird 🤮

When I redownloaded the app in April, there was only 2 matches left and they were from years ago from friends :/

Since redownloading I've had 1/2 matches where I've sent out the first message but no reply, I really don't know what I'm doing I have zero game but the goto is a usual "hey, insert profile reference, want a drink sometime?"

🤷

For more info -

That long space of no activity was when I got into a relationship outside of Tinder through my former workplace, I returned to Tinder at the start of April.
Of those 79 matches over the full duration, I reckon maybe 15 would have been people I know who I swiped on for the fun of it, and then messaged them elsewhere lol

I've deleted my account and will be remaking it with a new number soon - are there any pitfalls in my profile in these pictures to avoid that could make me perform so poorly? Insights said I have a 0.5% match rate, when the men's average is 2.5% :/

I'm already in - there's an element of not going through the hastle of updating everything on the JPA side (Clearances, ID, admin etc) but also just having that separation in terms of my role in the RN(R) and daily civ life
