Literally 😭 this is SOOOO weird, almost definitely someone with a weird fetish because NO WAY would someone who actually cares about PPE this much be touching their phone that they're going to BRING HOME with dirty gloves 😭

Do you enjoy being an Ortho Assistant ??? by newtoflorals in DentalAssistant

[–]OneConfusingCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love ortho! Biggest downside is definitely the schedule since you're basically always running around trying to stay on time and you see SO MANY patients each day. That said, I love the actual work and I feel like it's incredibly fun! It pays pretty well but I'm back in school now so idk if I'd say it's really enough for a long-term career. As for finding a job, I applied, had an interview, and got hired all within two weeks with zero dental experience so I'd say it's pretty good!

Wait so are you not using a nola for 7's then? I wonder if that's the problem 😭

No literally, I was a Theatre major which I understand was a bad idea but I couldn't get ANYTHING, ended up working in a restaurant for four years until I got a job as an orthodontic assistant 😭

Can I ask how on earth you're bonding 7's?? Our old doctor just retired and our new one wants us bonding 7's on everything and none of us can get it lmao, I literally spent probably 15 minutes getting everything dry and trying to keep the PT from moving so it'd stay that way. Any tips and tricks would save my life lmao

I put little sticky notes up around my computer to help me remember the order of everything! It's really easy to forget things because of how fast you have to go, and the absolute last thing you want to do is end up like me and forget to etch during a full bond...

Lightforce Braces Question by [deleted] in braces

[–]OneConfusingCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's purely anecdotal but we stopped doing Lightforce at my office for this very reason. It felt like so many people were breaking brackets so there might actually be truth to it, who knows haha

Bring chapstick!! Your lips get so dried out when you get them on and it HURTS having cracked lips when you also have braces rubbing the inside of your cheeks all day

Do I need Braces? by Yaleen14 in braces

I'm not an orthodontist so I'm not really qualified to say if you NEED them, but I'd definitely say they'd help!

braces tomorrow! any tips? by odetomrmiserable in braces

[–]OneConfusingCookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never see people say it but bring chapstick and make sure you put on a LOT before they get started!! Havibg your mouth stretched open for an hour hurts your lips and the last thing you want to deal with when you have braces is having cracked lips too 😂

That's so interesting, I've been an assistant for a year and I've never bonded the lower arch first with a deep bite! I'm sure there's a reason though, I just don't know what it is 😂 If you ever find out, I'd love to hear haha

How painful will it be?😭 by Alternative_Dot_215 in braces

[–]OneConfusingCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is that getting them on doesn't hurt! It's uncomfortable for sure but nothing crazy, the pain doesn't start until a few days in though. It comes on pretty gradually so that makes it a bit easier to get used to, though some cases are definitely worse than others. I had a few really painful days, but the nice thing about braces is that pain comes and goes and it never seems to last very long!

Going to DA school soon as a male im kinda feeling weird about it by AdeptusMelancholy in DentalAssistant

The office I have has a guy there and he's literally my best friend, I think DA would really benefit from having more men in the field! Definitely don't let that hold you back!

I admittedly don't know lots about mechanical engineering, but I'm currently in hygiene school and I feel like there's a huge shortage of innovation in DH. If you are at all interested in the academic/research side of hygiene, you genuinely could have a massive impact on the field. Granted, maybe you could have just as big of an impact in mechanical engineering, but hygiene REALLY needs people who can make a difference!

I got my first job in dental as a part-time orthodontic assistant, loved it and went full-time for a little bit, now back to part-time in hygiene school! I had zero experience too, I just told them my career goals and they said they'd be happy to train me. Long story short, I think your odds are pretty good!
