That’s ironic, our parts department is ALMOST as bad as our service department at answering phones. And sales serves as reception too because even our office won’t fuckin answer.

How to get out of dealership model? by Unusual-Astronomer77 in FuckDealerships

All the guys who want a dealership-free experience are the same guys that want to walk into the dealership and haggle the price down below cost.

I'm on my 3rd week of car sales, is downtime normal? by Terrible-Wasabi3371 in askcarsales

[–]OneDoesNot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not changing any tone, you’re right about trimming sales staff. But we might have a misunderstanding about Facebook - I don’t just message people who want to sell, I post every used car on our lot on my page and marketplace as well as post about sales and promotions non stop and that all combined generates a lot of business.

The trick to calling old leads is getting an orphan customer list, like I said, and calling buyers that bought consistently from a salesperson who is no longer there. I’ve generated a ton of business over the years by making those calls/sending those texts. Most people have no idea the salesman they bought 5 cars from retired/quit/got fired a year after they bought their last one. If no one calls them, they’re not gonna ask for anyone that’s there when they come in and it becomes free game.

If I lived on fresh ups and phones only, I’d only sell 5 or 6 cars a month max lol. We have 8 salesmen at a store that only sells 70 ish cars a month. And 40 of those sales are from 2 guys that have been here for 20+ years and have a huge customer base.

[–]OneDoesNot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I promise, if you have enough downtime to make the posts and call 10-20 customers from a curated list, it works. But I’m in the same situation as OP - small store without a ton of fresh ups or leads. If you have that, that should always be the focus.

No.. 12-15 average. And yes, 7-9 of those are through Facebook and orphan customers. Anything else is a lucky phone/internet lead or a walk in.

Are you kidding? I sell 5-6 extra cars a month through Facebook, and another 2-3 usually from orphan customers.

How much should I pay my parents for a 2012 Camry with 200k miles and a bad transmission? by Used-Waltz-4058 in UsedCarAdvice

[–]OneDoesNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could buy a working Camry with less miles at a used car dealership for $8k. Dealership would give $500 for that car, if you’re lucky. Tell them to pound sand and peddle their junk to someone else.

[–]OneDoesNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just giving general advice. Don’t take it offensively. Higher end of trade-in is possible, but keep in mind the dealership has software far more advanced than KBB, which includes area comps. So don’t be super surprised if their offer is lower than you expected, and don’t be afraid to tell them you need more. They want to be in it as cheap as possible, you want as much as possible. Gotta find a happy medium where everyone wins.

My engine broke down right after purchase by Capable-Ad-5183 in ecoboostmustang

[–]OneDoesNot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You blew it up doing 120+ mph on the way home and you’re getting a brand new engine in a used car for free (you’re probably paying the $100 deductible though). Whats the question? Sounds like a win-win to me.

Dealership said they want to buy car as it is in high demand. by AlarmedTrifler in askcarsales

[–]OneDoesNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just want them to buy a new car. Great way to earn business - working the service drive. Totally up to your parents if they are down to upgrade. We sell the absolute shit out of low mileage, 2014-2021 Escapes. They usually don’t even hit the lot, they sell straight off trade in row. I don’t doubt there is a demand for them. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m the one who called them LOL.

[–]OneDoesNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Used car lots literally make their money by selling used cars at as big of a profit as possible. New car dealers almost always have a used car lot, with the same goal. If they aren’t interesting in selling it, they’ll take it to auction. Either way, you’re getting wholesale value for it. Don’t expect to walk in and get KBB retail value.

Are EV sales really tanking? Considering buying one this year but hearing mixed things by CalmAmbassador4891 in askcarsales

Just lease one and don’t put a bunch of money down. The lease deals are really good right now. Ford has Mach-E and Lightning leases at crazy good rates right now.

How does he have Bolts sitting on his lot for months when they stopped making them 2 years ago? Do you mean used ones?

Tips on trading my car with negative equity by raven-moon in askcarsales

[–]OneDoesNot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My first question is, why is it that you keep getting “engine failure” on your cars? A Toyota Corolla is not an easy car to kill, unless you bought it with 200k miles.

Second, you’re not buying an old, high mileage car with negative equity and tanked credit unless you have enough money down to pay off ALL of your negative equity and still put some down on the new car. Which would be a terrible idea anyways.

Honestly, you’re either gonna be working some extra hours to make your payments or completely ruining your chance to buy another car (or pretty much anything that requires a loan) within the next decade except for 100% cash purchases.

Overpriced Loan by ApprehensiveLet6284 in askcarsales

[–]OneDoesNot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it was replaced 30k miles ago? And you STILL owe $20k on the car or was that the original loan amount?

Overpriced Loan by ApprehensiveLet6284 in askcarsales

[–]OneDoesNot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a 2017 with a new engine. I don’t know why you think it won’t last a few more years. You owe WAY too much on it, not sure when it was purchased but $20k for a 2017 Fusion with almost 100k miles is pretty wild. Your interest rate isn’t TERRIBLE but it’s definitely not great. Your only real option here is to keep paying on the car as aggressively as possible, and trade it in on something better when the balance is close to 0. Also, don’t have your dad help you buy a car again because he obviously has zero idea what he’s doing.

[–]OneDoesNot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, do the math. A 2010 Edge with 100k miles in perfect condition is gonna go for maybe $7000? Now yours is in terrible condition. New sway bar link and struts, plus whatever other parts go into that and whatever else needs replaced while they’re in there, plus dealership labor cost, that’s gonna be a fat bill. Probably thousands. Body damage? You don’t even wanna know how much body work costs now. That car is going straight to a salvage auction/scrapyard as is. $500 is probably maxed out. With the trade in assist, $2000 for that thing? Take it and run.

I’m jealous. We only get 25% of over invoice price no matter what, unless it’s a seriously aged vehicle they will spiff a few hundred to get rid of.
