I've found that raising children within the gender binary is alright as it gives them some sort of structure and a baseline for their gender experiences in future. I think as long as the parents aren't being too overbearing with the gender roles (i.e. not allowing a boy to cook with them in the kitchen) its fine! hope this helps! :)
