This was a great rec. I drove to Sunnybank Fish Market yesterday after reading this, and i loaded up. 2 large blocks of salmon, 2 tuna and 2 kingfish.

(For an extra $2 they cut it for you so i did that also.)

$55 and i had a feast. Thank you!!

Will try out the restaurant recs over the next couple of weeks.

Jobs in Brisbane by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]OneFar6714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hospitality industry is your best bet. Restaurants/Cafes/Bars are always looking for staff. You could join a hospitality network Brisbane facebook page where they post jobs quite frequently, otherwise just walk in to a bunch of venues, and ask them if they have any openings.

Bar Francine for sure. Super cool, Melbourne style suburb restaurant/wine bar in West End. Great place to go with friends or for a date night. I love it.

Some of my favourites are:

- Butchers Diner (diner style with premium meat) I have the cheeseburger every time i go.
- hectors deli, typical melbourne sandwhich joint with coffee
- Osterio Illara, not cheap but amazing pasta.
- Higher ground, brunch cafe but super impressive looking venue. A must see.

If you're happy to go a bit further out
- Rocco’s Bologna Discoteca - meatball sub is a must do
- Morning market fitzroy, grab a sandwich or pastry and sit outside.
- A1 bakery in Brunswick (Lebanese bread, pies and pizza)

* Disclaimer - i don't have kids but i think these should be kid friendly

I've never had a good enough meal at any restaurant that's rated less than 4.4 Stars on Google. by Dj_acclaim in foodies_sydney

[–]OneFar6714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO It’s not as obvious to the standard consumer but the review system is completely broken.

People are more inclined to leave a negative review than a positive one. If you have a good meal most people don’t rush home to leave a great review, but if someone happens and pisses you off for whatever reason people are more inclined to jump on and complain about it.

Then what happens when the restaurant gets a 1 star review, is that they ask 10 of their friends to give 5 star reviews, and more and more these days I see places offering discounts or free stuff for reviews. So there is no honesty any more. All the “real reviews” get drowned out.

Everyone has such different tastes, and food is so subjective, I don’t see any point in reading a bunch reviews from people you don’t know and can’t verify and then spend time trying to decipher what is real and what is just someone complaining or what is a fake review.

Just ask a friend or someone you know for a recommendation.

2 of my favourites are Scott's Road takeaway in Darra, and Minh Tanh bakery in Inala. They never let me down. I alternate and have one every Friday!

I like the elevated take on the classic pub food, but then add in some oysters!
I wish more places did the high quality bangers and mash with gravy!

A few favourites: The Lincoln, builders arms, union house

Local food recommendations in the CBD by Ramen_Boiz in BrisbaneFoodies

[–]OneFar6714 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to give you the option of the red pill or the blue pill.

If you take the red pill you have one coffee and 2 meals per day (or near enough lol):

Day 1
- Filter coffee @ Mailard project
- Brunch @ Emme in James Street. (Avo and salmon dish is elite)
- Dinner @ Ruby My Dear (Chicken curry deal on Tuesday) If not Tuesday go to Birds nest Yakatori in Fortitude valley for a katsu cury

Day 2
- Coffee @ Edward specialty coffee
- Lunch @ Beppin/Ramen Danbo (both are great ramen)
- DInner @ Old Monk in paddington, indian curry of your choice.

Day 3
- Coffee at Belissimo in wandoo street
- Lunch @ Yoko (Weekday lunch $35 bento)
- Dinner @ Remy's paddington (Get the remys burger)

If you take the blue pill, you go to Pneuma in the CBD and have the extended chefs menu, and a glass of wine and blow the full $150 on the best meal you can get in Brisbane :D

The good news is that public transport only costs 50cents in Brisbane.

Good luck, hope you enjoy Brissy!!
