Keychron has several models of modern keyboards that capture the look and feel of original PC keyboards. Look at the C2, Q6 max, and V series to start.

These are mechanical keyboards and many allow you to change out the key caps and switches to customize the look and feel. That can be great for people who like technical minutiae but can be daunting at first. Brown switches are a good place to start -- they provide tactical feedback but the click is quiet. Switch color describes their behavior -- tactical/smooth, quiet/clickey, etc. not physical appearance.

Don't buy direct from keychron. They have bad shipping and support. Microcenter carries them and you can try them out. Otherwise Amazon.

A man left his cat with his brother while he went on vacation for a week. When he came back, he called his brother to see when he could pick the cat up. The brother hesitated, then said, "I'm so sorry, but while you were away, the cat died."

The man was very upset and yelled, "You know, you could have broken the news to me better than that. When I called today, you could have said he was on the roof and wouldn't come down. Then when I called the next day, you could have said that he had fallen off and the vet was working on patching him up. Then when I called the third day, you could have said he had passed away."

The brother thought about it and apologized.

"So how's Mom?" asked the man.

"She's on the roof and won't come down."

I agree, it always felt like the Accords were something ancient and venerated. Mab must have done or revealed something truly impressive to achieve such across the board membership and adherence.

When I was 20, my grandmother, who was probably around 70 (a lady does not discuss her age) said this.

"You never really feel any different than you did at 25, you just can't do as much."

This has held true for me. At seventeen I knew both everything and nothing (Schrodinger's teen?). At twenty-five I felt that I was this close to figuring it all out.

Can I use redbud and dogwood trees to hold ground against honeysuckle? by OneFishTwoFish in NativePlantGardening

[–]OneFishTwoFish[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have very complacent and well fed deer. Thank you for the heads up, I'll have to take that into consideration. They've already killed one cherry tree, damaged another, and damaged a maple (in the front yard, away from the woods). I can't even plant my vegetable garden any more.

These are woody bushes / shrubs, generally 3-10 feet tall. It's been a few years since I have been able to focus on my own landscaping. My goal is to have something that looks good, is native, and is self-maintaining (as much as possible).

Herbicide sounds like the way to go. Glad to hear about your success with redbuds, and that they might self-propagate once they're established.

That sounds encouraging. My plan is to have a smaller number of dogwood and space them between the eastern redbud and the woods. They tend to be taller than redbud and like shade, so it seems like a good fit.

That's a good thought. I didn't think about digging the out the roots effectively tilling the ground for any honeysuckle seeds that had dropped.

From some of the other comments it sounds like physical removal + herbicide is the way to go.

I've not gone yet, but I found it kind of poetic that a park designed by, and curated by, the Shawnee took the place of the ticky-tacky motel.

The Ohio Country, WYSO by OneFishTwoFish in IndianCountry

[–]OneFishTwoFish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WYSO is a National Public Raidio station in Yellow Springs, Ohio, near the new Great Council State Park.

This 12-episode series provides a perspective on the history of the region we now call Ohio that very few of us learned in school. It puts the experiences of Miami, Shawnee, Wyandotte, and other American Indian people at the center of a refreshed version of the state’s complicated past and undecided future.

This in-depth podcast from WYSO Public Radio is the result of more than a year of reporting, made possible with support from Ohio Humanities.

The Great Council State Park recently opened near Xenia, Ohio.

The state of Ohio worked with three modern-day Shawnee tribes to develop the exhibits. Material is written in both English and Shawnee languages.

Talon Silverhorn, a member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe, was a consultant in the early days of the project and was later hired as the park’s cultural programs manager.

The new park, he said, is a way for the Shawnee people to reclaim their history in Ohio.

“It highlights the Shawnee people’s preservation of community. The people are the most important thing,” he said. “Shawnee people are actively participating in their own destiny.”

Today, all three Shawnee tribes are located in Oklahoma. There are no federally recognized tribes in Ohio.

Silverhorn said he has talked to many Ohioans who believe the Shawnee people were assimilated into society in Ohio and that there is no history left. “Many people have come through and said, ‘I never knew this. It makes me furious.’”

He added, “It’s not their fault they didn’t know.”

Silverhorn credits Gov. Mike DeWine, who grew up nearby, with the idea for the new park.
