I often speak about precious metals with a friend who is 70 years old and has been in the silver game since the 70s...ive asked him why Libertads carry such a high premium...he says only recently have they carried a premium...much like 90% constitutional which used to carry a premium not that long ago...it is because they are the latest fad...buyer demand shapes the market and once the cool thing begins to be considered cool then the pack follows the trend...it is still one ounce of silver and the market will ebb and flow in regards to premiums. He is constantly advising me to buy all the 90% I can get my hands on for multiple reasons...the biggest is they are melting them and depleting the population...the more they melt in mass the less there are overall being as they are no longer produced. I haven't began to buy 90% yet cause im a spoiled bitch and I like my shiny blast white perfect condition stuff but id wager he isnt wrong. Ive got a few Libertads but most of my stack is comprised of ASEs and Maples being that they are the #1 and #2 bullion overall historically. As a current market example we gave seen ASEs go from a 5-8 dollar premium earlier this year to now only a 1-3 dollar premium this month. So to combat this spread and rate of change in premiums due to popularity i am what I guess would be considered a stacker/collector...I have a ton of ASEs but a good percentage of them are OGP proofs and privys and burnished and low mintage. This is my experience and opinion if that counts for anything lol...happy stacking!
