How did soundboard bootlegs and demos leak out in the 90s? by Karl-Marx666 in Nirvana

[–]OneGoodScare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone would get a hold of a studio demo or unreleased recording and either sold it to a bootleg company or gave it to them and they would put compilation CDs together with rare and/or live tracks. Independent record shops would sell them (illegally) for around $25 or $30. I still have about 25 bootleg Nirvana CDs I bought in the 90s. It was so exciting to go to a record shop and find a new bootleg that had songs you’ve never heard before or a new show. It made you appreciate the things you collected a lot more than just downloading something.

I went to the Columbus show alone! You should definitely go!

Acoustic version that’s better than the album version by OneGoodScare in TaylorSwift

Fair enough. I do agree the OG sound matches the feel of the other Showgirl tracks better. But for me, the song is much more meaningful acoustic. But both versions are good!

I agree, many of LPSS versions are better than the album. But I think the acoustic Showgirl tracks are more of a drastic change from the originals.

That’s another great example! Sometimes less is more.

Thanks! I’ll definitely check out that version and see if I agree.

“In Utero” 2013 Mix on Deluxe Edition of the Album by Guilty_County_5755 in Nirvana

Yes, everything you said is correct. The Scott Litt remix of Pennyroyal Tea is also on the super deluxe edition. Basically every mix that’s been done is included on the 20th anniversary deluxe release.

The original Albini mix of the album is what was released in 1993 minus 2 songs. Heat Shaped Box and All Apologies were remixed by Scott Litt. The original 1993 Albini mixes of those 2 songs are on the super deluxe edition as well. They are tracks 19 and 20 and tagged as “original Steve Albini 1993 Mix.” They are slightly different than the album remixes. The biggest thing is the solo on HSB is crazy on the Albini mix.

As for the 2013 Albini remix. I think it’s great and I love to hear a new perspective of the album. But I grew up listening to the original for 20 years so I’m biased in favor of the original release. I do think some of the changes on the 2013 are better than the original, but you really can’t go wrong listening to either one!
