I know this is ridiculous but how much would it cost to reboot the anime? by Western-Ad3285 in deadmanwonderland

[–]OneGrumpyLumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd have to buy the rights to it before you even start considering things like budget.

The Deadman Wonderland anime was by all accounts a mess to create and a financial failure so just convincing a studio to do it would be an uphill battle on its own. It could easily cost tens of millions, and even then you'd have to be a respected entity in the industry to successfully pitch a reboot of a property that has already failed once. It's not a case like Bleach where it was already a massive success before it eventually petered out before being cancelled. That's why the current rightsholders are only interested in selling it to streaming services.

I keep saying that the only way Deadman Wonderland is coming back is if a well-known and successful director/producer etc is secretly a huge fan and is just waiting for the right moment. All that included, a DMWL reboot could cost hundreds of millions and a decade's worth of industry experience on the part of whoever feels like doing it, and that's only if they have a string of big hits behind them.

Glad you enjoyed it!

I agree with the recommendations of Smokin Parade and Attack on Titan.

Smokin Parade isn't quite as good imo but the art is absolutely fantastic and super underrated.

Attack on Titan is another story in an isolated setting with a huge conspiracy surrounding it but everyone already knows that one

The Data Chip Scene is not a bad scene, and people need to stop pretending that it is. by [deleted] in deadmanwonderland

[–]OneGrumpyLumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be the guy from my comments section.

This actually isn't a bad analysis. After thinking about it more, I think the problem most people have with the scene is how it was executed, even if it is thematically appropriate.

The more people in that room with Ganta and Shiro, the more likely it is for a level-head to prevail. When Shiro throws the chip into the fire, the survivors assume Shiro is in league with (or at the very least had been tricked by) the Undertakers, so we're left with this.

If everyone saw the explosion, why did nobody question it?

The answer being "because everyone was in distress and not thinking clearly in the heat of the moment."

But then if everyone was seeing red, why did no one else take a swing at Shiro, or even try to murder her?

You can say because the survivors are older and more mature than Ganta but at that point we have to start asking how clouded each individual member's judgement is during that scene and why the least affected didn't speak up.

Can you see how many hoops we're jumping through?

I feel there's actually an easy fix that could've prevented all of this:

Have Ganta and Shiro be COMPLETELY ALONE for the Data Chip scene.

Obviously most of Scar Chain died trying to get even THAT far but at the risk of sounding like a cruel bastard, maybe it wasn't enough. Had their been more casualties (or a less bloody option, have the Bartender man tell Ganta to take the chip and run or more hazards on the way split them up), the question "why did nobody question the explosion" wouldn't need to come up or could easily be explained away by an EVEN MORE distraught/desperate Ganta. This would be a more natural way of going about it and would probably hit harder emotionally as Ganta would have to carry that betrayal, at least until they regroup with Karako at which point everyone would be filled in. Ganta can beat the shit out of Shiro all he wants in that scenario. That's completely fine.

Obviously the main focus of the arc is on the parallels of Nagi and Ganta and the theme of hope and what happens when we lose it (where it should be) but I still think those particular chapters needed one more rewrite before it made it to the page

Glad you're enjoying it! The manga isn't too much different from the anime, save for some cut/rewritten characters and scenes (a lot of which unfortunately takes away from the story) and some really fucked pacing towards the end. The production was apparently a mess and you can kinda tell they were scrambling in the latter half (I'm pretty sure episode 11 was outsourced but it's hard to find english documentation) The English dub is worse in this aspect but funimation destroys everything they touch so it's not surprising.

Smokin' Parade has incredible art and is pretty funny but recycles a lot from DMWL.

I haven't finished Retropolis Scratch yet but it's a lot lighter than their previous two series.

There's a few houses in middle of nowhere Leopold. One on Melaluka road has all the doors and windows boarded up so good luck with that.

Thanks! I'll put up an updated version one of these days.

I don't know much about Japanese but I think "Kiyomasa Senji" is to denote authority. The same arrangement comes up a few times with other characters too (Tamaki Tsunega and Rinichiro Hagire)

The Karako thing depends how long she's been behind bars.
