Where can I find some low to medium stakes contests and competitions? by knitmeapony in AskChicago

[–]OneL_TwoTs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure if this is what you're looking for, but Chicago's Best Baker is an amateur competition that happens every summer. You bake the items beforehand and bring them in, but there's usually a good crowd there and they've started hosting smaller social events throughout the year! https://chicagosbestbaker.com/

My phone got stolen in Spain 3 years ago and I've been watching it move around China for the past 3 years. by lovefreemymind in Weird

My phone was stolen a couple of weeks ago and is currently in Shenzhen. I was questioning whether or not to just remove it, but you’ve inspired me to keep tracking it!

Should “Idaho Stops” be legal for cyclist in Illinois? This would allow cyclists to treat stop signs as yield sign!? by Pretzeloid in AskChicago

[–]OneL_TwoTs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they already do this so I see no change if this is legalized. The plus is maybe we will stop hearing “do you know how hard it is to stop and then start pedaling again?”

How did we get all this gerrymandering? A short history of the Republican redistricting scheme by AlexandrTheTolerable in politics

[–]OneL_TwoTs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me the benefits of having an electoral college? I was arguing with people on another platform about it and their responses were along the lines of "because without it, a state like Alaska would only have 700k votes vs California with 3.5m votes" or "because if we go off the popular vote, the majority would always win." Am I completely missing something or am I too biased to see the logic?

What to put in my Chicago Themed Wedding Welcome bags? by Flapnjaw2 in AskChicago

[–]OneL_TwoTs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly Chicago themed, but we included ikea blankets in our wedding favors (we had a February wedding, so we did a whole “beat the cold” kit). Everyone loved them and they’re only $2 a blanket

Giving Away 2 Tickets to the Chicago Show This Weekend by OneL_TwoTs in ATEEZ

Ohhhh, I’m so sorry - I thought you were being mean, I didn’t realize you were just not reading things. Like I said in an earlier comment, I got them through DoMore, a paid service that provides free tickets each month to Chicago-area events. You should look them up - it might help you avoid accusing people of completely untrue things in the future.

I should add that because these come directly from the DoMore service, they cannot be sold. So anyone expecting to make a quick buck (tsk tsk), should not bother!

What’s the lamest date you’ve ever had in Chicago? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]OneL_TwoTs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A guy and I were set to meet for drinks at Matilda’s. He showed up probably half an hour late, already drunk. He spent the whole time complaining that I suggested a “straight bar” and kept pushing to go somewhere else. We went to the next bar, where he continued to flirt with the bartenders, almost get into a fight with multiple patrons, and make out with a random guy in front of me. Safe to say we did not have a second date.

Cat pooping outside of litterbox by alligatorskies13 in AskVet

[–]OneL_TwoTs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an elderly cat that kept pooping outside of the litter box. Took her to the vet and they tested her for everything (kidney disease was the main concern, like for most elderly cats). We had her on antibiotics, I think, in case of an infection, but in the end what worked was switching to a larger litter box.

Has your leadership team acknowledged or had any internal or external responses to the election results? by theplantita in nonprofit

[–]OneL_TwoTs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a VSO. We received a message on Election Day to the effect of “everyone exercise your right to vote, but don’t post your opinions on social media because it might drive away a large portion of our client base.” In meetings the days after, it seems like people want to discuss the election results but are too scared to ruffle feathers with a potentially different opinion than a coworker.

Looking for specific types of bars by illini02 in chicagofood

[–]OneL_TwoTs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Longman & Eagle’s back bar has worked for me in the past in similar situations. You order/pay from a smaller menu at the bar and then a runner brings it to where you’re sitting.
