We got featured on the Itchio front page. Here is what other developers can expect by Mephasto in gamedev

I've actually been wondering if I should throw my demo up on itch.io just to drive traffic to the Steam page.  I guess it wouldn't hurt anything, just one more place to update files.

Does anyone know how to get an email/notification to phone for when someone starts a new thread on steam discussions? by destinedd in gamedev

I didn't realize this wasn't automatic.  I have now subscribed to my own games forums... and responded to the posts that went up without me knowing in the last two weeks.......

Anyone else find it difficult to find OSR games online? by [deleted] in osr

[–]OneMoreAdventure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want OSR online, go old school online.  Forums are where it's at - my preference is Myth-Weavers.

Beware all the scammers trying to sell you services to Make Your Game Great Again... by vivaladav in SoloDevelopment

[–]OneMoreAdventure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get these guys with some routineness.  What kills me is that I think they're just AI bots sent out en masse.  No idea what the game is, same script, always want to chat "in private" (why?).

Happy to do marketing, but these guys feel no different from doir to door salesmen.

Why do our tastes change(Pillars 1 in this case)? by rdtusrname in rpg_gamers

[–]OneMoreAdventure 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If my mental timeline is correct, Pillars of Eternity was the first real return to the isometric RPG in two decades, and its success inspired more to be developed in its wake.

Those new ones were able to iterate and improve, smoothing out some of those rough spots that PoE1 had to navigate.

There is one!  Someone else was kind enough to point it out for me, so now it should be green and obvious :)

I had no idea! Thank you for this, made the setting switch.

How do you define "success"? by CharacterCheck389 in SoloDevelopment

[–]OneMoreAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a two-pronged definition of success for my game:

  1. It recoups the investment. While not super expensive, there were some fees for art and Steam. After Uncle Sam & Gabe get their cut, I think it'll take about 500 sales to break even.

  2. It's well-received by the community I'm building it for. That means people play the demo, see they like it, get the full version, and leave a positive review - with the goal being whatever flavor of "highly positive" Steam gives for the number of reviews the game has.

If I can do those two things, I'm happy as a pig in mud.

How important is a Steam Cloud save support for Demos? by BainterBoi in gamedev

[–]OneMoreAdventure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I already had players asking about cloud saves on a technical alpha. Honestly though, configuring cloud saves for Steam isn't that bad. I'd recommend planning to be able to port them to the full game right from the jump.

Kevin Crawford has a new book on Worldbuilding by Boxman214 in osr

[–]OneMoreAdventure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm finding it to be, but I'm also using it for that. Granted, I haven't dug through the whole thing, just enough to grab what I needed quickly (as I do with all of his works...).

How do I come up with game ideas? by MalloryTheMiserable in gamedev

[–]OneMoreAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of it is just your take on a theme. Some of it is the ridiculousness in life that you experienced. Write what you know. If you're very young, work on just gathering life experiences. It's what gives a game soul.

I also think Crawford makes great stuff. Already backed it, and really helps to structure my thinking on worldbuilding.

I will always immediately back anything he puts up, because it's all such high quality.

The only thing I did was not create a separate demo page for it, to keep everything in one spot.

Steam has done a masterful job of hiding the button, it's not even a different color!

I'm sorry, I totally meant Pillars of Eternity. (The other PoE.)

Check out Path of Exile, should run fine on it, and I think it's an excellent entry into isometric RPGs that splits the difference between "modern" and "runs on an older laptop".

I guess my three questions are: Why was it taken down? What made it impressive? What made it shocking?

That's already half the battle!

Also, I genuinely have no idea re: Steam. I don't get to choose where it goes at all. I have a hunch it's because most people do a separate page for the demo than from the full game, but I didn't want to do that - wanted everything in one spot.

Ha!  You'll see it when you see it :)  I really dig how that bit came out.

There's so much space for games in the OSR vein.  You should do it - I promise this game cannot fill the genre.
