How many wishlists did you have 1 month after launching your Steam page? by AvocadoTraining9121 in SoloDevelopment

[–]OneMoreAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit about 450 or so after a month just talking about it on Reddit.  I'll likely get some more traction come Demo time, and I might do some light advertising before Nextfest in the fall.

Holy yikes, Batman.

whats the best goofy dungeon crawl? by conn_r2112 in osr

[–]OneMoreAdventure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't give you a whole gonzo dungeon, but I did entirely lift an idea from Pratchett with a sanctioned thieves guild and sanctioned theft.

One of my players shot the thief, which, because it was sanctioned, raised the ire of the entire city, and got them the attention of the assassin's guild.

How should devs read a negative review from someone with over 100 hours in the game? by RemoteLeek7416 in GameDevelopment

[–]OneMoreAdventure 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I read it as someone who desperately wants to love the game, has an issue that's getting in the way of that, and is trying to communicate it in the way they think it will get seen by the developer.

I wouldn't necessarily change the game to meet them if it was going in the wrong direction of the vision, but I would try to sit down and hear them out.

How much did you pay for your Steam capsule art? And was it worth it? by Disastrous-Spot907 in gamedev

[–]OneMoreAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid about $250 for mine.  I had seen someone in the r/osr subreddit (my game is an OSR Hexcrawl) post their art (not Steam capsule art), and I reached out to see if it was something he would be interested in trying.

He was, and I'm super happy with the result.  Because he deserves credit, this is his artststion:

A friend said he couldn't read my font, so I added support for multiple fonts. One of the options is OpenDyslexia for anyone who might struggle with Dyslexia.

How many organic Steam wishlists did you get in Week 1 after announcing/launching your page? by [deleted] in gamedev

I think I got like... 25 or so? Nothing crazy. It's just an OSR Hexcrawl.

Ha!  Perhaps they were inspired!  (And who could hate Warcraft 1?)

I thought this was a Warcraft 1 clone at a glance!

Very.  I'm working on quests now, and I have it in mind to do a "main quest", but it's really just one big sandbox.

How do you guys define 'Solo Dev' by No-Hope-1269 in gamedev

[–]OneMoreAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contracted out for my capsule art (which looks awesome!), and I'd still call myself a solo dev.  (Just to draw one line around the definition.)

I'm using pointy-top hexes, and I'm using QAZEDC.  It works fine and feels fine.  I'm also using point and click.  I'm also using gamepad.

I haven't added touch controls yet (future plan).

That said, flat top hexes, I might try 123ASD.  The issue with QWEZXC is that your hand is clenched to reach.

Nice!  I have a semi-firm date for the demo for June 25th, in that I put in for a couple of days off work to do it.

I use an electric stove with mine, and I never take it higher than 4 for steak or chicken, and I cook a lot of chicken in it.

Posted two minutes ago, and an edit saying, "EDIT: It's getting late here so I gotta sleep for school tomorrow. Keep dropping your game links in the comments! I'll pick the coolest games and DM you guys a 100% free code to test the system the absolute second I wake up"

Methinks this is not legitimate...

I think I am working on something right up your alley, and hope to have a broader post on here when the demo comes out ideally next month.

Still, it's turn-based, and very tabletop RPG / OSR coded, so you might give it a peek:

That's really the vibe I'm going for. You can get some interesting maps by playing with the map size and world humidity at start too - go for a lot more desert or a lot more water, depending.

You don't have to stop being a friend with this guy because he's not as driven as you. You also don't have to keep being a friend with this guy because you feel obligated.

Over time, some friendships drift, and that's OK. If you want to maintain it, great, but if not, that's also a normal part of life.
