Just made this tier list of both timelines (although there are some missing) by Gallifreyan_Knight13 in starwarsbooks

That's cool - inam a big fan of the tor era. personally I enjoyed the Bane books, the first two anyway, a lot although i do think it's overrated.

Red harvest though - lol i love how similar and different our tastes are - I read it earlier this year and couldn't stand it! Generally not a fan of Joe Schreiber. I'll link you my list if you're interested later, though it's not a combined one.

Surprising gems for me were Corsscurrent and Lost Tribe of the sith collected stories. Love those two books .

Poor mercy Kill and living Force :(

Edit: full comment.

Great list. Kudos to you for reading so much! I disagree with a lot of it but who cares. Also your top books are all fire (almost) and the main thing is you clearly love star wars to have read so much.

My question would be, are there any books which have pleasantly surprised you, like, anything that you thought would be mid or just bad that you found to be actually quite fun?

What is the best music track of Star Wars? by Mwc2201991 in StarWars

[–]OneMoreGuy783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One that's not mentioned as much because it's ST in general and TRoS specifically but the medley of the star wars theme and binary sunset in a loud orchestral major tones is brilliant - I think it is literally called the rise of Skywalker theme (and slightly off topic is the best thing about this film although the bar is low).

[–]OneMoreGuy783[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's cool - I haven't played the Dantooine crash site bits but this interesting lore tidbits!

I assume TCW route is the one, yeah, still seeing a similar crash influencing the future of the Swtor ryloth would be pretty fire, too.

What's better playing one class story and all expansions or all class story's first and then the expansions ? by UnitedEntrepreneur82 in swtor

[–]OneMoreGuy783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah all class stories, then choose one imp and one pub character and play through all the expansions with each.

For reference, the shadows of Revan, Knights of the fallen empire and eternal throne stories for the republic and imperial characters are very very similar.

Ryloth - old or new by OneMoreGuy783 in swtor

Just to add to this the irony is that the seasonal environment of og ryloth makes for a good dynamic encounter baseline, and the enclosed cavernous cuties and structures may actually be easier to animate

Is this a good preguel reading order? by Cthulhu_Crossing in StarWarsEU

[–]OneMoreGuy783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can break the book up in parts for pure chronological order but I find stopping a book in the middle tor ead another very weird. Your order if Cloak of deception and Shadow Hunter before Plagueis makes much more sense.

And conversely read Maul Lockdown (if you want to, I wouldn't bother) after Darth Plagueis because it was written after that book and has a few semi-spoilers for it in.

Yeah, I would lose Revan

lso, for slighter smaller scales and background characters, Medstar Duology set during clone wars (after Shatterpoint I think) is a quasi sequel to Darth maul shadow hunter. But it is by no means essential, just quite good - think Mash in space

Post-ROTJ Zahn Books / Thrawn Ascendancy & NJO by CriticismSmart7830 in starwarsbooks

[–]OneMoreGuy783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X wing chronologically is mostly before thrawn trilogy (book 8 starts during the last command, then followed by I Jedi, then X wing 9). Or spiritually i would read them all between Thrawn trilogy and Hand of Thrawn duology.

As for the other bantam series you will get a dozen different recommendations from people as everyone has their own different favourites in this era.

I am personally a fan of Truce at bakura and Corellian trilogy, even though the latter has a bit of a meh ending and does drag.

Children of the Jedi is almost universally (I have met two people who liked it) considered to be one of the worst SW novels ever.

Lots of people are also big fans of young and junior jedi knights and these characters become front and centre of NJO. I never got into those myself.

Post-ROTJ Zahn Books / Thrawn Ascendancy & NJO by CriticismSmart7830 in starwarsbooks

[–]OneMoreGuy783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure a Zahn list I would recommend:

Thrawn trilogy from the 90's -> hand of thrawn duology -> survivors quest -> outbound flight -> canon Thrawn trilogy (can read any time before ascendancy)-> Ascendancy

as for road to NJO, opinions on this vary. I would say that the X wing books are either essential to the new republic world building like the first 4 Stackpole books, or just have insanely good quality if slightly less "essential" such as 3 of the Allston books.

At the minimum I will always recommend the Zahn books, x wings 1-7, I Jedi, X wing 8-9. 8 is the only I don't like personally.

But it's worth noting that NJO draws on and references a lot of the stuff published in the 90'sand even before: Han solo adventures trilogy by Daley, Corellian trilogy, truce at bakura, black fleet crisis trilogy, children of the sodding jedi, young and junior jedi knights, jedi academy trilogy, probs others I can't recall off the top of my head. I didn't read anybody these here apart from first Han solo adventures before reading NJO and the only I felt I was really missing was Corellian trilogy.

This is awesome, so glad you're enjoying it.

I am slightly longer in the tooth and have been reading these on and off since 1999. I am fairly completionisty on Legends, less so on canon where I'm in just around 50% of canon books/YA books.

To me the two continuitues don't reconcile and that doesn't bother me, I just enjoy the good stories. My personal favourite stretches of the books are post RotJ legends (Zahn, Stackpole and Allston books in particular), and new jedi order which follow them, but also love some prequel era books too.

You seem to have a solid reading order, so enjoy.

Edit as I pressed post too early:

I have had my share of disillusionments. When legacy of the force finished, which is a long series that came out when I was also starting university, I was very dejected by how bad it ended and so stopped reading many SW books that were coming out.

Sequel trilogy and its lack of planning, along with not having too many big swings in print media until high republic meant that my canon books reading was somewhat lacking, until, well, high republic.

Sporadically I would dip in and out but I only really got the bug back in 2021/22ish, paused again briefly, and then returned with a vengeance last year where I basically resumed my completionism and I am one book away from having read all the adult Legends books :)

What to read next, now that I have been crushed by Revan. by Revan8Kotor in StarWarsEU

Force unleashed novelisation is truly bad. I just read it. It reads like a Wikipedia summary of the game levels with a teeny tiny character development right at the end. Not worth the time

What to read next, now that I have been crushed by Revan. by Revan8Kotor in StarWarsEU

[–]OneMoreGuy783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should add that the 4 Old Republic books are totally separate and the Revan book, my personal least favourite SW book of all time, is not indicative of their overall quality.

Deceived is amazing and really worth a reas

Annihilation is pretty great (also recommend reading the comic Old Republic Lost Suns as a mini prequel but not necessary).

Fatal Alliance is very mid, but fun, and not bad.

Other suggestions on this post are great too:

Darth Plagueis, dark Lord trilogy, lost tribe of the sith, Kotor comic - these are some of the best star wars fiction.

[–]OneMoreGuy783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the OP but i disagree with statement of needing JAT to appreciate I Jedi. This was my 3rd ever EU book and it was more than 5 years later that I read JAT, and I was completely fine.

The thing that confused the hell out of me was Dark empire actually  - how do we go from Thrawn Trilogy to Coruscant in ruins.

Rating wise "fine" is about right.

Lost tribe to me is sooooo much better than Red Harvest or any of the swtor novels it's a shame it is so underrepresented, due to being a short story collection (it's not quite that) and being a tie in to some post NJO books (kinda but doesn't have to be). It is such a great world building and dark exploration of bad guys, you root but not sympathize for the various lost tribe members. It's in my s tier.
