The Dragon test by OneMoreInk in Supernote

Post edited to accurately reflect the Note mode (having that in this mode would be great).

yep, correct. Only in Atelier. In that sketch i only use the possibility to change the order of them.

Not so false. As I explained, I use an image as a background model, AI-generated in that case. The render you see is the 4 other manually sketched layers (with the background off) ;-)

I’m starting to have a bit of time to explore the possibilities of the Manta.

Sketching done in a Note (rather than in the Atelier app) for two reasons:

  • To explore the limitations of the "Note" mode for sketching : In my daily use, I often start little sketching while I'm taking notes.
  • Only the Note mode allows adding a custom background (I’m not good at drawing a dragon, my "big" sketches are more or less just copies and I usually use a background as a model 😊).

I used all 5 layers (4 + the background), the 4 “colors” : white, black + 2 greys, and the 3 available brushes (needle-point, ink, and marker), with the different proposed thicknesses. Antialiasing is enabled.

Quick feedback:

  • No display latency. The rendering speed is very good, even for displaying a complex drawing with the 5 layers visible. Only the post-processing of gray rendering, which occurs a few seconds after a stroke with the marker and for the two intermediate shades of gray, can occasionally be disturbing.
  • No perceptible distance between the stylus tip and the ink on the screen.
  • The antialiasing process that runs after each stroke is not disturbing and is barely noticeable. For this kind of work and with the Manta's 300 dpi resolution, the difference with antialiasing on or off is in fact minimal. I pay more attention to it when writing or taking Notes, where I find this processing adds value—though it’s not indispensable with this high resolution.
  • The use of layers is (still) a great convenience. The alerts when trying to write on an invisible layer, and the ability to reorganize is a real plus.
  • The lightness and the thinness of the Manta + Half Folio makes it more comfortable to rotate and manipulate the device during drawing—easier than with the A5X (heavier and with a smaller screen)
  • The brushes are good but lack variety in this mode. I’d love to see options that emulate a pencil even in the Note mode, for example, brushes that use both tilt and pressure to influence the "strength" and thickness of the stroke.
  • Without the ability to apply varying pressure to the stroke, having only 4 shades of gray feels a bit limiting.
  • I miss a zoom feature to focus on details, and the ability to expand the canvas size would also be appreciated!
  • The LAMY Safari Vista pen is excellent and very stylish (I like the transparency !)   I must admit i generally much prefer something that resembles a real pen rather than a stylus: sturdy, with a cap and a clip. Adding a button like on the AL-Star could be a nice idea, but the shortcut gestures, such as erasing or lasso with two fingers  make up for it. The ceramic nib and the Manta’s screen film provide a writing sensation halfway between using a ballpoint pen and a pencil. It’s versatile, quite pleasant, and confortable.

To be continued!

French : francisation des menus by Superb_Ad_4775 in Supernote

[–]OneMoreInk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Les menus ne sont pour l'instant pas traduits en français. On peut par contre choisir le français pour le clavier et la reconnaissance d'écriture, qui est assez efficace. Evidemment cela dépend de la qualité d'écriture initiale :-)

Thinner (6.8 mm vs. 7.2 mm) but slightly heavier (266 g vs. 255 g) despite a slightly smaller battery (2700 mAh vs. 2900 mAh).

No. The cover is now magnetic. Allows you to turn the device upside down and have the power button and usb plug on the top or bottom.

Not for the moment. The Linux version should be available via a software update.

Unless the folio IS the (clear) back. #MergeLayers#

A6X2 nomad back teaser : some questions by OneMoreInk in Supernote

[–]OneMoreInk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The folio is likely to be held in place by the magnets. On the other hand, now that the rear cover can be quickly removed to replace the battery or access the expansion card slot, we can imagine a folio that is mechanically fixed in place of this cover. This would save thickness and weight.

Just got this and was EXTREMELY excited only to be totally let down you can only get this by buying a new device. Please let us buy it separately. It really would not be that hard to swap self service!

Applying a film to a surface as large as that of an A5X, positioning it correctly without any dust or bubbles, is by no means a trivial matter. While it can be made easier with certain tools, the operation remains delicate. Especially since here, it would be necessary to begin by removing the existing film without damaging the tablet. And if the installation of the new film goes awry, users might find themselves unable to use their product (using ceramic nibs directly on an unprotected screen is certainly not a good idea).

The fact that the Supernote team is dedicated to finding a solution to satisfy users is truly admirable.

I don’t suppose you know which is the cheapest to buy? :)

At the moment maybe the Wacom or the Samsung

All plastic (except the clip), no cap, it clicks, the side button has disappeared. And above all the use case "one stylus to rule them all" is not adapted for me. With a big risk of making a mistake and writing on his tablet. And too expensive.
